It’s a steel guitar. Slide guitar is a more generic term for a style of play that can apply to pretty much any guitar that you set up to be played with a slide. But the most iconic slide style guitars are steel guitar and the dobro. Steel guitar you can pretty much only play with a slide unless you get real creative and do something funky

You WANT country??? Try the 80's band Alabama. They're still together, occasionally record, and they still tour!!! "Love in the First Degree", "The Closer You Get", "Mountain Music", "Feels so Right", "Dixieland Delight", "Feels so Right", and "Old Flame", just to name a few. If Alan Jackson's " Where were You when the World Stopped Turning" Doesn't bring a tear to your eye nothing else would. (Topic: The Sept.11th attack) As far as Electric Guitars in country music....Brad Paisley "Whiskey Lulliby" Is ranked by many in the top 20 guitarists of all genres. Country Star Vince Gill ("Go Rest High on the Mountain") was offered a slot by Mark Knopfler to join Dire Straights. Kieth Urban "You'll Think Of Me" is an awesome electric guitarist. But the best one of all is Chet Atkins. If you want to listen to Guitar Picking like you've never heard it before listen to Chet playing "Yakety Axe", Better yet get the album "Neck and Neck" featuring Chet Atkins and Mark Knopler playing a variety of guitar songs with unbelievable styles.

Did you "get" that the old man jiving at the table was George Jones, the one he kept singing about. He is the one who was arrested for driving while drunk on a John Deere tractor. (His wife hid his keys, so he couldn't go to the bar & drink.) Other country? Shania Twain: "Any Many of Mine"

Country, during the 90's, took a little swing towards the southern rock sound, as well as a lighter tone. You'll find many songs during this time (you've already discovered Shania Twain) that are a different sub-genre of the traditional country sound. Some artists you might look into are Garth Brooks, Clint Black, Joe Diffie, Brooks & Dunn, Travis Tritt, and others. Some female artists from the 90's for your Fridays could be Pam Tillis, Martina McBride, Trisha Yearwood, Pattie Loveless, Faith Hill. Also the previously mentioned Shania Twain had a ton of hits (maybe the 2nd biggest 90's artist to Garth Brooks!)

In 1999, George Jones had a latter day hit titled, “Choices” that won him a Grammy. Although some other more current artists were able to sing their songs in full, the CMAs asked Jones to sing only a partial version of his nominated song. Feeling slighted, Jones didn’t attend the ceremony at all. Alan Jackson was scheduled to sing a song called Pop A Top. After the first instrumental break, Jackson stopped cold and started to perform “Choices,” the George Jones tune. Once the crowd realized what he was doing, there was boisterous applause and a standing ovation. After singing, Jackson just took his guitar and walked off of the stage. Now, there are probably a dozen or two George Jones songs worth reacting to before getting to Choices, but it was a particularly boss move by Alan Jackson. He made his choice.

Because my mom was a fan of the genre, I grew up listening to country music so most of what I am familiar with was music she introduced me to (guys - do Marty Robbins!). But Alan Jackson was the other way around - I came across him myself and became a fan without my mom's influence. Then I introduced his music to her and she because a fan. Because of that, he represents something of a "full circle" to me. So I definitely enjoyed being reminded of him. Oh and Jay and Amber have reacted to a couple of Loretta Lynn songs so I don't know if I would say this is the "most" country song they've done. ;) Against something like "Coal Miner's Daughter" or "You Ain't Woman Enough to Take My Man" I would say it is perhaps a tie. :)

I was like this once...Country? My history of playing in bands went from 1980 thru 2007. All genres. I joined a country band in 92, sort of reluctantly because an old bass player buddy called me and asked me to come and join. I thought he was joking...Country? Come on! He said just come and jam along, youll get it. I wasnt quite sure what "get it" meant. He dropped of a few cassettes to learn 3 or 4 songs. I soon realized that modern country and especially country guitar playing wasnt what I thought. That Nashville studio crowd are some of the most mindblowingly great guitar players ever. The music was so refreshing. It was about real life, and the contrast of playing in rock bars to playing for folks in smaller town Honky Tonk bars was a beautiful thing. Dont Rock the Jukebox always packed the dancefloor.

I think most people think Country means there will be twang so they think they won't like it. I felt like 90's era Country had more in common with 50's/60's rock 'n' roll and had very little twang.

I loved Ambers face when he said George Jones. She was like George Jones and her facial expression was like, who’s that. George Jones was very well known and famous in the country music industry. At one time he was known as, no show George because he didn’t show up for a few of his events He actually made a cameo in this video.

George had a life long battle with alcoholism. Thus the no show george nickname. By this point in his career, he was able to laugh at his previous struggles and did so via cameo's in others videos.

Alan Jackson just revealed that he's been diagnosed with Charcot Marie Tooth disease... a peripheral neuropathy that also runs in my family and something I've dealt with all my life. The fact that he keeps making music and performing is awesome. Hope he keeps turning out the music for a long-long time.

Alan Jackson is a legend and his music library covers everything you could imagine. Chattahoochee for faster paced fun, Monday Morning Church for tear you to pieces heart break. You should really do more Alan. Brad Paisley is an incredible guitar player and has covered Van Halen’s Hot For Teacher on stage.

Electric guitar has been part of country music for as long as I remember. About 20 or so years ago, artist started a trend of "de-electrifying" their music. Clint Black is one. On his he did a duet with his wife, When I Said I Do that is among my absolute favorite songs of all time. You should check it out.

This is Alan Jackson, one of the godfathers of Country Music. You're listening to a legend. That is a steel guitar with the slide. And you do realize that Rock and Roll was actually born from the mix of country and jazz and country music had the electric guitar before Rock music did. You really do need to listen to more country. I think there is alot of country that will really surprise you.

When I think of country music, aside from fantastic tunes there's one lyric that always comes to mind: "There's a tear in mah beer 'cause I'm cryin' for you dear... *You* are on my lonely mind". That has to be the absolute pinnacle of a country music song all in one sentence. *A guy, a drink and a little time to think.*

Alan is so cute and sometimes guys get a little unsettled, but they can't help but get into his sound and style. He is actually very talented and has exceptional arrangements and supporting muscians. Great reaction. Cheers from Canada

That was a steel guitar. It originated in Hawaiian music but became a staple of Country music early on. It isn't heard much in modern country which is really quite a shame as it has a very distinctive sound.
