It's a murder ballad - there's tons of them. Even sweet loving Olivia Newton-John had a hit song Banks of the Ohio where she stabs her lover to death. In 1994, a British avant-gard synth-pop band called Art of Noise teamed up with Tom Jones on vocals to cover Prince's 1986 hit song "KISS". That is definitely one to check out... Listen to Prince's original cut & then Tom's version, both are total bangers! By the way, Art of Noise was immensely popular for their unique style of groundbreaking music. Even to this day, many hip hop & rap artists sample their old tracks. I can still recall - 1984 was the release of their song "Beatbox". It was a huge hit. Whenever that played, it made everyone, and I mean EVERYONE in my school Pop Lock and Breakdance. It has such a heavy infectious beat that you just start movin' your body to it, it's an automatic response. Hmmm, I wonder how many of my fellow 50+ yr old Generation X-ers still Pop Lock whenever they hear that classic? The official music video for their following hit "Close (to the edit)" was played constantly on MTV back in the day... :-)

I just liked the "My, my my Delilah. Why, why, why Delilah?" part & would sing along as loud as I could. It wasn't until I was much older that I actually learned all the lyrics & realized what a crazy ass song this is... Wait, what? He shanked her...WTH?!?! OMG, all those times I belted out this song & never knew what I was singing - LOL! OK, now the next Tom Jones song has to be "Green green grass of home". Even though that was released before Delilah came out, I always thought of it as what transpired after that fateful event on her front porch. When you hear it, you'll understand why I think of it as "Delilah part 2, the aftermath". ;-)

This show song brings back a wonderful memory. When I was a kid my dad made up alternate lyrics to this song, about the ill-fated affair between a cat and mouse. My sisters and I were in hysterics. 😂

It's amazing how he holds his line above that orchestra.

I love you two together with the reactions! As for Tom Jones, give the video of his cover of Prince's "Kiss" for another view. He also has an incredibly sad more recent cover of Leonard Cohen's "Tower of Song" -- it brought tears to my eyes. I saw him once in concert. I did not throw panties on stage. But he was SO GOOD live!
