In this episode I learn to solve the Pyraminx. A pyramid shaped version of the Rubik's cube. I try to do so entirely intuitively; that is no algorithms or guides. How long will it take me to learn?

Intuitively solving a twisty puzzle is an amazing feeling. Even just watching someone else do it is nice. I recently solved the clover cube plus intuitively and I can safely say that those were some of the most fun hours of my life. Every time I solve it I'm reminded of how great it was the first time. I recommend solving something intuitively to any cuber looking for a reason to smile.

I've learned the 2x2 and 3x3. I'm working on the 4x4 (using the ideas in Mike's "How to Learn" Skillshare class), but I love the Pyraminx. It's so fun to play with. I almost figured it out on my own, looked up one thing then worked out how to solve it all. Not sure I'm "solving it as one" but I am solving it.

The great part about cubes is that one you learn the 3x3, it is significantly east to recognize the same pattern for solving (middle, edges, corners)
@grendel_nz
@grendel_nz 2 жыл бұрын
When i was at school. I learnt to solve the corners first after getting one side complete, then 2 algorithms to move the edges around. Sadly i only remember one of those now so it takes much longer. I have someone's 5x5 to solve now, so i have to learn a different , more stsndard, way to solve that cos my methods won't work. Ho hum.

I liked it more when he used to prove that he actually learned it and didn't just stop the timer when he first solves it (cause that can be partly or fully luck). I'm not saying that he didn't actually learn how to solve them, I just feel like having that confirmation and then explaining how it works adds a much more satisfying end to the video.

As a speedcuber it's always awesome to see these kinds of videos. One thing that I think would be cool for you to attempt is the square-1. Its this shapeshifting puzzle that is absolutely mind-boggling to try to understand and I think it would make for a fascinating video. Once again, love this kind of content, always so cool to see more people cubing.

Hey, I am one of the best pyraminx solvers in the world and I would like to tell you that we solve the pyraminx intuitively by 1 looking (memorising the whole puzzle at once and solving without thinking twice) and because of the way we apply our intuition we avoid the 2 flip (when 2 pices are flipped) like in your case. For most of what you got it will be easier to use a tutorial so you can at least solve the thing. Sincerely, Aayush:)

Wow Mike! When I learned how to solve the 3x3, a month later I moved onto the pyraminx. I had thought that it wouldn't be too hard as I have heard from a lot of the internet that it would be easy. I tried to learn the pyraminx layer by layer intuitively, but I eventually gave up as you explained it was really strange to me. That day, I figured out how it worked via tutorial, beginner method (solve sides until you get lucky). I eventually learned some pyraminx algorithms and by now, I am pretty confident with this WCA event. As a 3x3 main event solver, I love the pyraminx and I love that you were able to figure this out.
