My mum really really really hated Huntsman's more than most spiders. One day she's like, going to buy some ciggies, hopes in the Mini and head down the road. As the car reaches the corner, we thought she fell out the side of the car via the door flinging open. The car kept going down and around the corner fine. So we rushed across the yards to help her. OMG what happened, you okay. Mum looks up with white fear in her eyes, but starting to crack up laughing, f#$%kin huntsman. As she had reached the corner, the sunshade dropped down and a massive Huntsman fell down onto her lap. She'd just bailed out of the car to get away from it

I'm happy to let Harry the Huntsman chill in the corner of my lounge room but on the car it's a big nope for me. I've had a couple of times where I had to find somewhere to pull over and deal with the situation before I could drive again. One where Harry was in the crack of my window being down and I didn't want to try wind up because I didn't want to hurt it but also it might just freak out and jump at me.

Lol, not dangerous but scary looking. I had one for what seemed to be about a year living inside my side mirror, and it somehow got inside to go for a run across the windscreen when I was driving. Also had a snake one time that lived somewhere under the wheel arch. I think it liked the warmth of the motor.

It's happened to me. A medium huntsman ran across my car's dashboard towards me whilst I was stopped at the lights (inner lane) on a 6-lane Melbourne road. My foot came off the brake whilst I was dealing with it and I nearly ran into the car in front. If I'd been moving, the result may have been catastrophic. Huntsmans may not be poisonous but they're damned scary, especially to an arachnophobe like me!

Hitch hiking huntsman are definitely a common thing! I had a guy come through my drive through at maccas, and asked me to check if he still had one on the roof. I did my due diligence and looked around, gave him the all clear and his order. He drove a way releived, but as he drove away I saw the dinner plate sized mofo on his back window!

you wet your ham bag with water and vinegar and it keeps your leg of ham fresh in the fridge. a cold leg of ham is staple in australia at christmas for salads and sandwiches as it's too hot for baked ham. so we get a giant ham and get it out of the fridge and carve bits off it as we need. so good.

The issue with the blocks these days is (I have a shoebox block myself). Let’s say the government tells the developer they have an area that is 5km2. In this area you could develop it to have 5,000 properties. BUT if you make the blocks 25% smaller you can now fit an additional 500 properties so instead of generating $1bn in sales you’ve now generated $1.2bn in sales all from the same area. The only way these days really to get a large block is to either buy further out from the city, pay through the nose, buy an old house and do a knock down or remove the subdivision which that still means buying more than 1 block.

After you've carved into your baked ham for Christmas, you put what is left into the calico bag (after making the bag damp) and toss it into the 'fridge. This stops the ham from drying out or turning 'slimy', as you use the leftovers for the next week or so. Most nowadays would use plastic wrap or something, but I've always thought the calico bag left the ham nicer.

I don't know if you mentioned it Ryan, but this week in Australia, the big news was the communications outage by the second biggest communications network "Optus". It caused chaos to so many businesses, railway networks, government, etc. Not so much for me, I just thought that I had some virus in my computer so I went down to my nearest Optus centre and saw the doors shut. I think I was the only happy one there because I was glad that it was only an internet outage. Tells how much we all rely on it nowadays.

Either the cops were behind that car, or it was an unmarked police car. Here beside having marked police cars we also have unmarked ones, that are just normal cars, or Ute's ect. Also, have camera cars or vans parked beside the road unmanned that if your speeding will take a photo. Sometimes, will have written on it that it's a speed camera vehicle depending on what state it's in. A Brown snake is deadly, and will kill you. You do not mess with them. The stigma you mentioned at the start is worse in the U.S (though it is present here in Australia) due to the U.S. being far more religious. We do have an issue with getting legislation passed though because of our aging population. As for the Huntsman spider they are venomous but their bite won't do much just hurt like hell. There is however a theory that they may truly be Australia's most deadly spider by far and it has to do with exactly the situation in the video. They like to live underneath bark and in cracks and so can lurk underneath the sun visor or in air vents etc. Some scientists looked at it and have theorised that many unexplained road accidents, particularly those involving single cars and no signs of excess speeding etc. may have been caused when people got scared shitless by a spider dropping on them or crawling out from it's hiding place. I think it was actually the fact they found a bunch of crashes with people turning into the sun at morning and evening but there otherwise being no clear contributing factor to look into it at first, so there is that risk factor there but they though people might be flipping the sun shade down and having huntsmen drop on them. They looked into other crashes after that and did find crashes which they thought also might be corroborative but in fatal crashes without any clear cause or witness then it's impossible to say for sure

Yes, so true. I had a very good mate in Queensland who lost his daughter and wife in a head on collision with another car with no clear reason for it happening. The cops later theorised that there may have been a spider in the car that caused them to swerve into on-coming traffic. I do remember a time when I was waiting to turn onto a main road in Brisbane, when a car coming along that road began to behave erratically, slowing and speeding up and swerving from side to side. It finally came to a halt and two panic-stricken women leapt out, screaming that there was a spider in the car! So, especially here in the Great Southern Land, it's a real risk, but only if you're a nervous Nelly of a woman!

huntsman bite is about as bad as a bee or wasp sting. they do have long fangs though so having a 1/4" of fangs sunk into you is a bit of a shock in itself. huntsman are of no concern to us though they're in our cars and houses and don't bite unless hurt or harassed. we do appreciate them keeping bugs and mice under control. they're like majestic security guards that sit on the wall defending our houses from pests by gracefully running them down at high speed and devouring them. three cheers for huntsmans.

Have you ever been bitten by one to actually know the pain level? I've had a couple touch me with their fangs over the years, but have felt nothing at all. I had a baby one at my old home, who was a real character & would do flips & stuff for attention & jumped onto me, fangs raised, many times, then looked like it was putting it's fangs down onto me but nothing. No idea if it was actually trying to bite me or not though. The other one I had was one in my living room that I fed regularly & who would come running up to me for food & one day came running up to me, on it's back legs & then crashed it's front legs & body down onto my bare foot, then ran off again, but I felt nothing, didn't even feel the weight of the spider, so I'm curious if they do really hurt when biting or not. I don't know anyone who's ever been bitten by one

except there's a grand total of ONE death, EVER from a Mulga snake (the correct name for the "king brown") Mulgas are black snakes & they are the most toxic of the black snake family, being the only species of black snakes to have ever caused a fatality. The bite in that post wasn't a mulga snake though it was a brown snake, either eastern brown snake or western brown snake. Eastern brown snake is the second most venomous snake in the world, mulgas aren't even in the top 10

Hi Ryan, I think the danger of a huntsman spider in or on your car is not that it is venomous but that it might result in an accident if you get startled by it while you are driving. The issue with the spider bite is not the marks on the skin or the pain you experience but the venom, which can be neurotoxic and cardiotoxic - i.e. deadly. If you get bitten, bandage the limb (as was done in this case by the look of the compression marks on the skin) and get to hospital pronto. they will give you antivenin that will save your life. There are not too many snakes in Australia that are not venomous.

Don't run. Running just circulates the venom faster. Stay calm. 1. Put safe distance between you and snake. Don't waste time trying to ID 2. Apply medium pressure bandage (doesn't need to stop blood flow, only lymph) with splint to immobilise joint. If you can, include a gauze on bite site for easy testing once in hospital 3. Call/signal for help if possible, or else walk to help/vehicle using minimal exertion and movement of bitten limb. eg. improvise a walking stick 4. Don't remove bandage, only let that happen in ICU when they are ready to keep you alive

@@jwnomad I was going to say almost the same, but the whole body actually has to be immobilised, so no walking to help. There's never been a death from a snake bite in Australia when Pressure Immobilisation has been used. In remote areas, you've actually got a better survival chance if you stay put & wait for help to come to you, as opposed to walking out. & that means weeing yourself, not even moving for that! This is of course assuming that you have at least advised someone where you are going & when you are expected back & that they will therefore be looking for you & you have supplies, if not you might be screwed, but it's likely you will actually survive the bite even without anti--venom if that bandage & immobilisation are in place, as the body can break down the small amounts of the venom that will slowly leak through the lymphatic system over many days. You'll be really sick for many days if you have to wait for all the venom to slowly go through your system & be broken down naturally, as opposed to using anti-venom, but it is possible. There's no clear info as to how/why pressure immobilisation was invented, we know who's idea it was, but not how he came up with it, there is at least some evidence he got it from Aboriginal people & that they used immobilisation at least as a way of surviving snake bites. Unclear if they used any kind of pressure or not, probably didn't. Also, no gauze on the bite. If you want to, there are bandage techniques that leave a "tail" sticking out, so that the tail can be pulled to access the bit of the bandage that's over the bite, but otherwise just circle the bite area & the bandage over it can be cut away for testing. Gauze, pads or anything else create an uneven surface, which negatively impacts the pressure's job, plus it's a time waster & there's no benefit in using gauze to test for venom as opposed to using the bandage for it

USA has a huge amount of good farming soil, Australia has comparatively little. Sadly, the colonies started where the farming land was good, and then built over it. Also a balls up which was more of a popular saying in the 70's. My mum and dad were with a bank manager as he was explaining some easily fixed error that my dad had just made with filling in a document. My mum, laughing, jokingly said "Oh trust him to to balls it up!" The staid old bank manager was a bit shocked. I had to later explain what the saying meant. I would have questioned the price of those chips. If it’s correct I would send them back and ask for a refund. That is over the top price gouging. 😊 huntsman spiders are not dangerous. I let them live in my house because they eat pesky insects. Optus is a telecommunications service and it went down all day on Wednesday which caused major problems for half the country. I couldn’t use my cell phone and was unable to pay for my remedial massage service because I didn’t know until after I had it. So people rely on this service provider for banking and communication and the trains cere not able to run. It was chaos.😊

I had a huntsman that had babies in my station wagon years ago. I was driving along and felt things falling in me, i kept brushing them off but when i looked up the headlining was covered in baby huntsman. That was on my way TO work, i still had to drive home at the end of the day 🤷🏼‍♀️😂 we did fumigate once i got home. My brother’s favourite party trick was having a huntsman crawl on his face and even in his mouth, i can say without prejudice i am related to a full blooded bogan 😉

Without even reading it, brown snake guy is fine :) You can see the marks on his leg from the firmly (correctly) applied pressure immobilisation bandage that had clearly been removed only a short time before he took that photo in the hospital. No-one who's applied that treatment has ever died from a snake bite in Australia

Nah, huntsmen are not at all poisonous, they are just very big and hairy. Many Australians including myself, like to have a huntsman in the house (as long as it's not in my bedroom sitting possibly on my face) as they will eat the poisonous spiders. One of my workers had a huntsman living in her bumper till we removed it (as she doesn't like spiders) a couple of weeks ago.

It's a disgusting thing to do to milk. The coffee is to hot to drink and you can't feel the milk-fat in your mouth when it's col enough to drink. Also, the heat de-nature the casein in the milk. In Adelaide, a lot of places flat-out refuse to sell coffee with full-cream milk from the fridge in it. One guy told me to F... of home and make it myself.
