the antenna game on cars are explainable, taller antennas are hf and vhf [ high and very high frequency] the shorter ones are uhf [ ultra high freq] and one is the fm radio , uhf is clear over short distances and hf is less clear but travels further for the same power of transmitter

We like to make it easy when it comes to identifying snakes. Red bellied black snakes are black with a red belly, eastern brown snakes are brown and found in the east, king brown snakes are also brown (although technically they are black snakes), green tree snakes are green, tiger snakes have stripes and diamond pythons have a diamond pattern on their scales. We’re not unique in identifying our snakes this way, think rattlesnake or black mamba.

Kmart and Woolies are usually not in their own building, but are mostly both located within a large building along with Coles, Big W and many other variety shops. We call it a "shopping centre", and that's how you can have a full trolley from one store in another store. How are you so confused by this?

Unfortunately, in American shopping malls, the customers are expected to carry everything themselves. This is another reason I feel sorry for the average American. In Australia, upon arriving at a shopping centre you can find yourself a trolley (shopping cart). Put everything in it and take it practically anywhere inside.

@@larissahorne9991. You just have to keep your receipts handy and show them if necessary. Helps if items are already bagged at each store. Ryan, The washing machine is what we call a "Front Loader" The two dumb-arses parked in the disability spots do not have disability signs which are normally displayed in the front bottom left of your windscreen. They were parked illegally. Also the antennas are for their cb radio's, the longer they are the better the bandwidth and a dual installation will increase the effective range approximately 25% over a single antenna installation. As for the K-Mart trolley ... it is quite normal for people to shop at one store and then take the trolley to another store and pick up a few items to save a few trips to the car. The camera's are now picking up weather things are being scanned and payed for at the registers which is what has happened to the person with items in the K-Mart trolley. The customer would have to get the checkout supervisor of the register area to clear the registers warning notice to allow them to pay and also to leave the register area because there is also a gate that won't open if you haven't paid for goods. Security is higher than it used to be.

In Australia, we have a lot of shopping centres (malls) that usually have 2-3 supermarkets, a couple of big department stores, many speciality shops, a chemist, newsagent, hairdressers, jewellers, food court (where you can stop and eat) and nail salons etc. It literally is a one stop destination to get all the shopping you need. You use the same trolley throughout the shopping centre, doesn't matter if it's a coles trolley, big w trolley etc. In the end they all go in trolley bays at the carpark and trolley collectors that take the right trolleys back to their destination.

Disabled drivers must display a card inside their windscreen when they use disability parking. There’s an app to report offenders easily called Snap, Send, Solve, you take a photo and it sends to the right local authority. Red P plates stand for ‘Provisional Licence’. They have passed their driving test and traffic rule knowledge test but they have to abide by restrictions for one year. If they do, they can apply to go onto green P plates for 2 years. Then they can apply for a full licence. But if they lose points while on Ps it can extend the time at each stage or move back to red Ps or back to Learner Ls if really bad performance.

A lot of aerials on 4X4 vehicles are just people with too much money and are just for show, have no use other than looks, but the ones that are useful are UHF, ultra high frequency which is general use, VHF is not so common anymore but used for longer range communication and emergency services only, hefty fines apply to anyone who interrupts the emergency channels, other aerials are used to boost cellphone range in remote areas that typically wont get service.

That snake, a Red Belly Black Snake, well, there’s currently once of those slithering around my daughter’s school somewhere. They haven’t found it yet, but there are signs up warning the kids that one of Australia’s most venomous snakes is hanging out in the area and at the beginning of February, there were a series of messages sent out telling the kids that this snake was seen in the middle of the school and twice told the kids “IF YOU SEE THIS SNAKE, DO NOT TOUCH IT!” I also read a FB post the other day from, I presume, a high school kid seeking an ID on a snake she removed from her classroom. Thankfully, it was only a Diamond Python and not venomous but I’m still a bit stunned that the teacher allowed this kid to pick up this snake and move it outside!

There's always a staff member on hand whom in all interactions with customers I've seen are assisting them with, for example, identifying a fresh-produce product, or if a customer comes in with large heavy items, such as a ten litre container of water, they will immediately manually input the item onto the screen so the customer doesn't have to lift the heavy the items out of the trolley.

I have a disability parking permit and once tried to ask someone to go and deal with it when a large tradie van with no permit took two spots. The center’s management said only the police could deal and so I rang the police, who are located directly over the road, and they said they couldn’t fine because it was private property and go to centre management 🙄. As I said under another comment up thread, many of us are willing to pay a small fee for the permit with the money going to the salary of even part time people to actually fine people. It wouldn’t have to get everyone, just enough to have people worry that they may get a fine. Right now, it’s common to see 50% of spots taken by cars without a permit. At least in Vic, no one cares.

The wombat cartoon was referencing ScumMo's Hawaiian holiday in 2019, while significant parts of the country were ablaze. He was..."economical"...with the truth surrounding the circumstances of his trip. It wasn't until another Aussie spotted him there and posted about it on social media, that the public even knew he had left. "I don't hold a hose, mate!"

Under the Commonwealth Constitution of Australia, local issues such as bushfires and floods within a state are strictly state matters. The Federal Govt, led by the Prime Minister, has to wait to be asked to join the effort. That is usually some emergency declaration that frees up Fed money so states can pay for any actions on accommodation, food, medical services, etc. Also use of Federally owned emergency equipment like water drop planes can be requested. This is why ScoMo was not rushing in re bushfires, because he was waiting for stubborn selfish state premiers to request Fed help. They wanted to make him look bad & didn’t want to lose their spotlight. Same with Albo during floods. It’s up to state premier to ask for Fed help. States are very protective of their bailiwick and reject Fed interference.

@@Reneesillycar74 and the truth of the matter is that a true leader would have come back straight away even just to offer moral support, but then again the words moral and Scott Morrison don't exactly go together. Compare that to Malcolm Fraser's response during the Ash Wednesday bushfires - they are chalk and cheese. Same party but polar opposite moral compasses.

Wolf Creek is horrifying, as is Kadaicha (an 80’s aussie horror film about a curse being put on a community that was built on sacred land - hmm, now that I think of it - probably culturally insensitive…. ) But it scared the absolute living shit out of me when I watched it as a child. As did Frog Dreaming - starring Elliot from ET (which was filmed in the quarry behind my neighbourhood)

Disabled papers are often on the dashboard, but young people do sometimes ignore the notices. The car on the right has Red P Plates = Provisional Licence and subject to restrictions, so for him, parking there could cost him $400 and the loss of his licence.

When parked in a disabled parking spot you have a disabled sticker/form (held by a suction cup) you can/are supposed to display on your dashboard. In relation to the crickets: She appears to be in a public bathroom. I'm guessing they're there for the water.

My first close encounter with a red belly I was walking down a creek. Lifted my foot to step to the next stone and the red belly swam right under it. I also had one visit my pond each summer to swim around catching frogs.

Just a quick note about the "big brother" topic. It is not just Woolies... In fact all of Australia is under surveillance. And a lot of it is to do with the government. Some areas like the poppy fields in Tassie and pine gap in NT/SA are under high security surveillance via satellites. Australia is just part of one "big brother project"
