Hey Tom, great video. This is my second week using your technique. My iron game was ridiculously long. I was 244yds out on a par 5. Took my 2 iron and landed pin high just left of the green. But, as usual, I was hooking my driver a lot on the back 9. Just saw your video about grips and will utilize a neutral grip to see if I improve my accuracy with my driver.

I haven’t watched this video yet. I just came to complain. I’ve been very complimentary about how you have helped me get KFCrispy lately. But there’s a problem that you don’t seem to care about. All of my irons are so crispy now that I am over shooting greens. My mishits are finishing pin high at least. I am going to have to rent a trackman and get all new yardages now. But I am definitely sold on this technique. I’ve never been one to airmail greens. I was always short with my irons. Thanks Tom!!

Geez. I hate it when that happens, and I am so very sorry for the difficulties that have arisen as a result of your newfound crispiness as well as my apparent indifference with regard to your suffering..... 😆😆😆 That's AWESOME! I'm very glad to know that my instruction is resonating with you; excellent job incorporating it into your swing and putting it into play. Thanks so much for sharing your dramatic improvements in ball striking and distance, and keep up the fantastic work!! 💪💪 Tom

I have had the same problem, on course went to the 150 yard marker, used my goto ball, and hit 9,8,7 & 6 - got reading & moved on

I'm in the same boat. I'm on a 220yd uphill par 3 with wind in face. Grabbed my 4 iron and overshot the green by 15yds. This is my second week using the stack and tilt technique.
@pjpcadet6 ай бұрын
Not surprised by these comments it’s the same for me.. yesterday I played a dog leg right with an uphill green and my driving was too straight so that I should normally have to play a full 4 i . I decided to hit a 6i just to be down the very high green and I found my ball on this green. The first time I used Saguto’s S&T… Unbelievable !

Literally fixed everything i was working through this weekend. Slicing the ball mid round, make grip stronger... and stronger... Thinning more and more shots... Ruined the round. Today after watching and implementing this video in the simulator I didnt want to quit.. 7 iron. 7 wood. 3 wood. Didnt matter. The crispiest of strikes all around. Thanks again Tom

OUTSTANDING!! 💪💪 Yes - rather than address the root cause the golfing world has been conditioned to keep on strengthening the grip until the slices dissipate, but doing so brings about a whole new array of possible issues. It's like putting your finger on a leak only to have a new and worse one spring up elsewhere. Anyway, I'm very glad to know that this lesson worked so well for you; excellent job incorporating it into your swing and putting it into play. I am a 17 hcp. I've not hit a golfball all winter season (6 months). First round of the season today, low expectations. Went out today and hit a 79, my first time under 80 since I started golfing seven years ago, using only this change to my grip! It made so much difference it was hard to believe! Before I was supinating too much in the right hand. Much better ball striking. Unbelievable! Thx Tom!

Great tip Tom on covering the left thumb with the right palm when gripping the club and applying pressure to this position. I have always done this with the "trigger finger" of the right hand acting as a "pusher" when the hands are coming into the strike zone. I agree this will help you avoid the "ice cream scoop" and give you a lot more "buttery distance!" Well Done Tom!

Tom. This was fantastic tip. I struggle with hooks and inconsistent ball striking due to flipping as a result of over active trail hand. I changed my lower hand to be more on top (ie weakening) and the results have been much better. Way more compressed and square club face. Thanks so much.

That's fabulous, Tom!! I'm very glad to know that this grip lesson resonated with you; excellent job incorporating it into your swing and putting it into play. By the way, I would be remiss if I didn't mention that a significant percentage of my online school members are in their 60's, 70's, and 80's - i.e.: a smorgasbord of chronic ailments, physical limitations, back/shoulder/knee/hip pain, arthritis, and joint replacements - and they are overwhelmingly elated to experience the dramatic pain-free game improvement, seemingly effortless power, and resulting enjoyment that this swing affords them. It all begins with a proper setup which provides for a free-flowing motion. Upon that good foundation a repeatable swing which produces consistently crispy impact can be built. Have you looked into the comprehensive, sequential learning platform of the online school yet? I hope you'll give the school some thought. Thanks so much for sharing your improvement and keep up the great work!! 💪💪 Tom

My pleasure, Eric! I'm very glad to know that this grip lesson resonated with you, and I hope it helps you to gain control of your ball flight when you put it into practice! By the way - and as I mentioned in the video - if you've grown accustomed to your strong grip then this change to a more neutral trail hand attachment can feel awkward at first and may produce some odd shots. But this is normal when trying to incorporate the necessary changes in the spirit of lasting improvement. As the crispiness builds in the weirdness will surely dissipate. When I started thinking about shaft lean and keeping my hands forward, it caused my face to stay to open at impact and even led to some dreaded shanks. Instead, I’ve decided to focus more on my tempo and making sure my chest and torso rotate through the ball. I use Max Homa as my tempo example. Obviously everyone’s natural tempo will be different. On video, there is still some shaft lean at impact as a result of my body moving in the correct manner and sequence. And a quick side note, I think grip is by far the most important thing in golf. I’ve heard Padraig Harrington, Luke Donald, Butch Harmon, Scottie Scheffler’s coach and many more say this. Scottie Scheffler’s coach gave that same tip of using your right heel pad to cover the left thumb. I’ve been trying it for 2 weeks and it has helped my wedge shots/short game tremendously. Still working on my long irons and driver (they’re still creeping right on me). Lucky for me, I’ve only been playing golf for 8 months so it’s not too hard to change my bad habits :)
@SagutoGolf7 ай бұрын
Well done, Brian! Yes - forward shaft lean at impact should be the result of a good setup and a properly executed motion. It is not something we should try to actively contrive or manufacture. By the way, as a relative "newbie" to this greatest of games, perhaps you might wish to consider the comprehensive, structured, sequential learning platform of my online school? Another great video Tom! Compressing the ball with irons has defiantly improved for me since I started watching your video's. I wish I could say that about my driver though. Slice, slice and more slice. I think my problem is I don't understand everything with the driver swing. With the ball teed up at inside of my left foot(right hand swing), I'm having a hard time to not have my swing path heading left at impact. The low point of my swing is about 3-4 inches behind the ball. Up until that point, I believe my swing is inside out. From the low point to contact my swing changes to outside in. I'm trying to understand how that cannot be the case when you consider the swing is an arch. My swing changes directions at the low point and I don't know how to fix that. I don't have that problem with irons and I think it's because I've already made contact before the bottom of the swing, when the direction of the swing was still inside out.
@SagutoGolf7 ай бұрын
I'm glad to know that this lesson resonated with you, Terry, and I'm very pleased to learn of your ball striking improvement! With regard to the driver, it is essentially the same swing with every club; just some minor setup differences and naturally occurring shaft plane changes as we graduate up in club length from short irons to woods. To demonstrate, you'll find towards the end of this episode some practice range footage of me hitting a 7 iron, 3 wood, and driver: kzbin.info/www/bejne/pWHbpJaDrrNmrJo Beyond that, if you search the word "drive" on this channel you'll see some related content. Oftentimes when golfers are hitting everything well except for the driver it can be attributed to one of the following: 1) Their hips are not continuing their lateral slide through impact. This is common with the driver as the wider stance means that the hips have a greater distance to travel. If the hips stop moving laterally towards the target on the downswing then their rotation takes over, inhibiting any further necessary forward weight loading (we should be 80/20 forward halfway down, 90/10 at impact, and 95/5 in the finish), changing the low point and rerouting the club into a steeper angle of attack (AoA). This can produce a variety of undesirable results including fat and thin contact, topped shots and popups, straight pulls, and “banana” slices. Of great importance is keeping your upper torso/head in place (in other words, not moving towards the target from a face-on view) while the hips execute the lateral slide action. This preserves the swing center and the desired shallow AoA. 2) They are not allowing the length of the club to dictate the backswing path and are getting too steep as a result. The shaft of the driver is considerably longer than the other clubs and thus requires more of an around the body backswing as established by the shaft plane at address. It may "feel" flat as they take it back along the shaft plane for the first few feet, but as long as they maintain the "weight forward, shoulder down, and hands in" components while allowing the club to work around them, it should put them in the proper position at the top so they can attack the ball from the inside. (A good feel for that lead shoulder is "down and in, under the chin".) 3) The low point of your swing should still be slightly after the ball with the driver. Many believe - and some even teach - that we must try to "hit up on the ball" with this club. However, consider that in our stock setup with the driver the hands are even with the inside of the lead thigh (as they are with all clubs when playing a standard shot) and our ball position is even with the inside of the heel of the lead foot. This presets a very slight degree of forward shaft lean with the driver. Beyond that, the ball is behind the zero-point of the swing (which is even with the lead shoulder), meaning that without any contrived manipulations the club will still be on its descent - albeit very close to flat - at impact. So, perhaps with the exception of folks with slower swing speeds - or those Long Drive participants teeing it extra high and hitting maybe 1-2 balls out of 10 onto a 60-yard wide "fairway" - in general the path is still ever so slightly down. In fact, the PGA Tour average with the driver is actually minus (e.g.: downward) 1.5 degrees - nearly level - and it should feel level - but slightly down nonetheless. (Here is an article on Ping’s website addressing this topic - ping.com/en-us/blogs/proving-grounds/optimal-launch-and-spin#:~:text=According%20to%20Trackman%2C%20PGA%20Tour,85%25%20ball%2Dflight%20laws ) Here is a link to my FREE mini course “The Top 3 Things You Need to Be a Great Ball Striker” where you can learn some aspects of the system I teach in a more structured manner: go.saguto.golf/ This will provide a nice foundational understanding of the swing keys that will ultimately get you mashing the ball through your entire bag. When I add in lateral hip movement I struggle with solid contact because of the angle change of upper body. Head doesn't move, hips slide forward means upper body tilts slightly away from target and lowers low point of swing slightly. Need more reps O guess.

Hi Tom, been working on this stack & tilt for a couple of months with some progress however, I can't agree about just swinging the shoulders & the body will follow. When I slow your swing right down I can see you moving your pelvic area before you swing down, there has to be some 'slide' with an eventual pivoting of some small degree. Please correct me if you disagree with an ultra slowmo of your great swing. By the way, are you using graphite shafts & if so which ones. Apparently the choice, the quality & the funky looks offer far more than the conventional steel ones. Y'all have a nice day & thanks
@SagutoGolfАй бұрын
When properly deployed in sequence our hips play a role in preserving our downswing path and they can certainly provide a power boost. When prematurely rotated, all bets are off. For example, the lateral targetward action of the hips that you referenced acts as a governor on the rotational component, thereby enabling the player to keep their upper torso square and their swing center intact without having to fight their body. It's also a move that you will notice with every great ball striker. (Cue up a face-on video of any Tour player, put your finger, mouse pointer, or some other reference tool on their lead hip at address, and then observe the extent to which the hips move laterally past your pointer in the downswing while - and this is key - the head and thus the swing center remains in place.) _This will occur naturally if we allow it to,_ but unfortunately the misguided "fire the hips" notion has plagued so many amateurs with an early-onset spinout that makes them steep and across the line, or they get stuck, early extend, flip, etc. For them, the "feel" of the shoulders leading will help in overcoming this, correctly engaging their hips and fixing their path, thereby leading them to a solid, "crispy" impact condition. It is important to understand that the videos, lessons, and drills on this free channel - while fully aligned with the swing Stack and Tilt method I teach - address a variety of topics, issues, feels, and/or common flaws/fixes from one episode to the next. They are certainly not intended to be taken as a comprehensive, step-by-step, position-by-position learning platform like the structured curriculum of my online school, which I strongly recommend to anyone who truly wishes to get on the proper path towards owning this swing as it will make for a far more efficient and enjoyable learning process rather than haphazardly trying to piece things together through my KZbin content. I haven't commented on your channel but I think I've thumbed up every video of yours that I've seen. I'm planning to buy your membership. Why you? Well, it's not that your saying exactly what I want to hear, like a lot of KZbinrs, who want to make the swing more complicated rather than less. Because I'm not a natural, I wanted to believe the swing needed to be more complex than it needs to be to explain my reason for doing it so poorly. Watching your channel unlocked an avenue of thought previously unthought... keeping it simple. My biggest criticism of my own game, and my swing, has been inconsistency. It's unfortunate that for so long I believed that weight shifting and perfectly timed flipping and this and that, made more sense than the approach you present. But better to learn late than not at all. I am going to do the free mini-course and put it to use this opening weekend and then subscribe.

I sincerely appreciate your kind words and support, Scott, and I'm very glad to know that my lesson content and teaching style are resonating with you and providing clarity and simplicity in the muddied, overly complicated, oft-conflicting realm of golf instruction! The way I see it, we can either simply put the already existing natural laws to work and thereby build a powerful, body-friendly, repeatable, low-maintenance motion, or we can twist, morph, torque, contrive, and otherwise mess with the principles of physics and geometry in an effort to better suit some ill-conceived whims, all the while recognizing that at the point of impact those pre-existing laws are going to be the only things that matter to the ball. Unfortunately, however, such sorcery from this dark underworld of golf instruction rarely finds its way to the mainstream because if too many folks found out about it the mainstream would then be rendered irrelevant....... 😎 Consider that despite all the advances in equipment, technology, golf course grooming, etc. the average golfer still struggles to break 100. Epic failures within the realm of “conventional” instruction, perhaps??? So many misconstrued and/or misguided teachings - such as taking the club straight back, turning the shoulders level while independently lifting the arms, shifting into and torquing against a firm trail side, firing the hips, actively rolling the hands through impact, etc. - have relegated generations of golfers to the vast abyss of inconsistency and chronic frustration (and chronic back/knee/hip pain as well). I’m doing my best here to clear these up and put an end to this madness. Thanks again for your message, and I look forward to seeing you soon in the online school!! Tom

I'm very glad to learn of your ball striking improvement, Taylor - nice job! If you were previously prone to a steep, over-the-top downswing path (and slices as a result), then you may have habitually closed the face at address and/or strengthened your grip to compensate. If your path is now corrected then these can definitely affect ball flight. If so, try opening the face ever so slightly at address and weakening your grip to see if that helps. Great video. How do you avoid an inside takeaway but also keep your trail arm really connected? Thanks. Super content.
@SagutoGolf7 ай бұрын
Thanks - I'm very glad to know that you are enjoying my content! The swing is a tilted circle (or arc, if we wish to get technical), the circumference of which extends from the ball to above and behind our shoulders. As such, if we are going to remain on that circle/arc it requires the hands and club to take a slightly inward path - not a disconnected handsy snatch or roll to the inside - just a natural tracing of the outer rim or circumference. The feeling of "straight back" can easily pull the golfer off of that preestablished geometry right from the start, and from there precise compensatory actions are necessary if there is any hope of returning the clubface to the ball on the proper path time after time. So rather than have to rely on precisely "dropping it in the slot" the exact amount each and every swing, why not just put in the slot from the start and just keep it there?! We create depth in this swing, and that enables us to fully engage the shoulders and harness the tremendous power of swinging on an inclined arc courtesy of the seemingly effortless force known as "angular momentum" - where physics and geometry collide. While there are certainly videos on my channel that address this topic, a better option would be my FREE mini course “The Top 3 Things You Need to Be a Great Ball Striker”: go.saguto.golf/ It's a great way to gain a fundamental understanding of this system as well as an introduction to the instruction style that has thousands of men and women from across the globe - including many accomplished, low-handicap, competitive players and spanning all age ranges from junior to super-senior - enjoying the best golf of their lives: saguto.golf/p/sagutogolfreviews Tom

Hey Tom! Just wondering how you hold the weight forward at set up. I tend to feel it over my big toe, but I’m not so sure that’s correct. Should I be pushing my front hip forward instead? Hope that makes sense. Thanks!
@SagutoGolf7 ай бұрын
We should feel evenly balanced between heel and toe in both feet. This balance is achieved by first setting our knees over the toes (or at least over the toe end of our shoelaces) to activate the ground connection, and then pushing our butt out to incline the hips and chest so that a relationship with the ball is established. The arms hang down naturally from the shoulders with all clubs except the driver, for which we push them out an inch or so to encourage more of the around-the-body motion needed for that lengthy shaft. We address the ball stacked shoulders over hips over knees with our weight balanced 50/50. We then simply bump our hips one inch towards the target while keeping everything else in place. This presets a little more weight forward while retaining the stacked relationship. Both feet are flared outward approximately 10-20 degrees, with the knees similarly angled outward. This orientation facilitates a stress-free, flowing motion back and through, resulting in a very body-friendly, consistent, powerful swing! Although I don't recall you ever doing a specific video on this.....bending the knees and getting down on the ball like in your swing, allows you to push against the ground (i.e., using the "ground force" as they say in martial arts) adding an extra 10 yards to my irons. I've strayed from the fold but coming home. Do you give remote (Zoom) lessons?

Welcome home, Ralph - I've missed you! Here's a video from my archives on that topic: kzbin.info/www/bejne/q6Gsf4CFl6p0lc0 If the "leveraging of the ground" doesn't happen on autopilot, then the "feel" we like to ingrain is tucking the butt under the hips through the zone, which causes the belt buckle to raise up a few inches from pre- to post-impact. It can also be likened to a high jumper pushing off his or her lead leg as they propel themselves upward and over the bar. This releases the spine from flexion to extension - a very powerful move. I had phased out private lessons (both in-person and virtual) awhile back so I could dedicate more time to my online school. I've not yet set a specific date for when I will resume them (it should be fairly soon), but when I do the virtual lessons will be reserved exclusively for my online school members. In-person lessons at my South Carolina location will be open to members and non-members. If you are in my online school please send me a message through the "chat" feature and I will add you to my list to be notified when slots open up. Also, I do offer an a la carte swing video analysis service to my school members as a means to support their progress in the school. Here is a link where you can learn more: noodle.shop/sagutogolf If you are not in the school yet, then that would be a great starting point as the school is designed to get golfers on the fast track towards properly learning this swing system in a comprehensive, structured, sequential platform. That is where you will find very detailed lessons and drills that take you through the entire swing step-by-step, position-by-position from setup to finish, along with diagnostic and corrective tools for resolving common swing, contact, and ball flight issues, and much more. Thousands of men and women from across the globe - including many accomplished, low-handicap, competitive players and spanning all age ranges from junior to super-senior - are now enjoying the best golf of their lives as a result, and their unsolicited testimonials tell the story quite well: saguto.golf/p/sagutogolfreviews. At just $14.99/month or $149.99 per year the value in terms of what you get for that price point is beyond comprehension, and based on proven results it represents by far the best golf instruction deal on the planet. Hi, i have watched you videos for sometime but decided to give it a go yesterday for the first time. I'm half decent and play off 7, but i couldn't stop topping the ball. I started to try and play the ball further and further back which i assume isn't the right the thing to do. Any tips please?
@SagutoGolf7 ай бұрын
Hi Greg, Consider the following possibilities: 1) Ball position is too far forward, 2) Hands are too far back at address (they should be in line with the inside of your lead thigh), 3) The swing center and low point are drifting backwards at some point during the motion (face-on video will help you determine this), 4) The downswing is steep and/or the path is out-to-in, 5) Early extension of the trail arm during the downswing (aka "casting"), 6) Flipping/scooping through the zone, 7) Loss of relationship with the ball (shoulder angle flattening, loss of tilt). Though not an exhaustive list, those are the primary causes of fats, thins, and tops. By the way, always begin with the setup - in this case the first two possibilities - prior to diving into a swing intervention. While there are certainly videos on my channel that address these various potential culprits, a better option would be my FREE mini course “The Top 3 Things You Need to Be a Great Ball Striker”: go.saguto.golf/ It's a great way to gain a fundamental understanding of this system as well as an introduction to the instruction style that has thousands of men and women from across the globe - including many accomplished, low-handicap, competitive players and spanning all age ranges from junior to super-senior - enjoying the best golf of their lives: saguto.golf/p/sagutogolfreviews Tom

This is great 👍🏻 Everyone talks about LEFT hand when they talk about grip. NO ONE talks about the right. I always thought it goes along for the ride. But this makes so much sense (that it causes you to flip). I’ve always wondered about this. 🤔 “Hand ON TOP, covering …” “Pressure point” to compress the ball I’m going to focus on this tomorrow ☝🏻 Yes it will feel uncomfortable, but … I remember when I was growing up, my Dad (who really didn’t play golf) had his right hand under the club and he snap hooked everything. 🙄 But it was comfortable to him. “the Magic Move” - Johnny Miller … what’s he know 🙄 🤣 LOL

@SagutoGolf7 ай бұрын
Yeah....what's he know?......😆😆 Anyway, I'm glad to know that this lesson resonated with you, Mike! Strong grips may feel nice and powerful - and comfortable - but in reality they have destroyed countless amateur swings and games across the globe when deployed as an anti-slice band-aid. A neutral grip absolutely does not encourage an out-to-in path. In fact, in the system I teach a neutral grip is the preferred attachment for our stock powerful push-draw ball flight, and you can only achieve that through a proper in-to-out route to the ball that the neutral grip helps us to ingrain. Conversely, a strong grip is used in our system as one of the setup features for a pull-fade shape. Go figure, right? But the physics and geometry do not lie... So get out there and embrace the weirdness of a more neutrally positioned trail hand. Give it some time and you'll ultimately reap the crispy benefits and the more reliable ball flight. Tom

Hi Greg, Your lead arm should hang down naturally from the shoulder relatively straight and without any "forcing" at address, and we should then be able to preserve that level of tension-free straightness throughout the motion. I've probably already shared with you that a significant percentage of my online school members are in their 60's, 70's, and 80's - i.e.: a smorgasbord of chronic ailments, physical limitations, back/shoulder/knee/hip pain, arthritis, and joint replacements - and they are overwhelmingly elated to experience the dramatic pain-free game improvement, seemingly effortless power, and resulting enjoyment that this swing affords them. _It all begins with a proper setup which provides for a free-flowing motion._ Upon that good foundation a repeatable swing which produces consistently crispy impact can be built. If you really want to purge all those thoughts and take ownership of a powerful, repeatable, body-friendly swing, then please consider my online school. It will make for a far more efficient, superior, and enjoyable learning process rather than haphazardly trying to piece things together through these channel videos that jump around randomly from topic to topic.
