Rather than being “a moderate driver”, the point is in the specifics. First, and this applies to most drivers, don’t exceed 60 mph. 55mph is your ideal max. It will cut your consumption by up to 20% on the freeway. The air resistance on your car becomes exponentially harder above 60mph. Just ask any pro skier! Second, don’t accelerate ahead of a slower zone or red light. Drive with foresight. Third, use your auto start/stop. If your car doesn’t have it, kill the engine manually on long red lights. Just be quick to restart and re-gear. Don’t do this first in line and no phone in hand please 😂

A good way to increase your MPG is to set your AC to recycle the cabin air. Letting in the outside air creates what is called "drag," which is the same as opening your windows. At lower speeds and when 1st starting the car, it's probably good to open that vent and get new air in. It will also cool the car faster. But it's going to let in bad smells driving around.

Improving driving habits makes a huge difference and can extend the life of a vehicle. It seems everyone is in a race to get ahead of the other cars. I see people stopped at a red light and when it turns green it's like a drag race. Don't be in such a hurry. Plan ahead and leave early instead of the last minute. Every vehicle I've owned I always got a couple more miles to a gallon than what the vehicle was estimated to achieve.

If you drive like a bat out of hell. You can double to fuel economy by NOT driving like you have an elephant foot. But tbh, idk. Cuz ive tried all 3 driving styles. 1) heavy gas heavy braking 2) normal gas normal braking 3) slower on the gas and easier on the brakes. ALSO leaving crazy large following distances so i can coast to a stop more often. With my 2017 nissan rogue ( rated26 city, 33 highway) I've gone as low as 21 mpg and as high as 35 mpg. But i will say, i DONT heavy brake ever cuz i hate paying for that mess. And will normal brake or emergency brake when needed but not just slam in brakes cuz that just wears em down and the motorist behind might rear end me cuz of abrupt braking
@JustinPennito2 жыл бұрын
That's not a scam device, you're thinking of those things that connect to your OBDII port. What you're holding is a throttle booster, which basically helps get you faster 0-60mph times, as they open up your throttle sooner than the ECU typically does.

The tips work but don't know about doubling.
@joys86342 жыл бұрын
by how much though?
@ericolens32 жыл бұрын
@@joys8634 depends on the vehicle. Cuz its ultimately gonna be a range. Generally speaking the RATED FUEL ECONOMY is your best case scenario *if you followed Scotty's tips It can be marginally better than the rated fuel economy if you try to NEVER brake and only coast to slow down and acclerate more slowly THINK 4 times the distance to get up to speed. (0-60 in 35 seconds or even at a rate of 1 mph per second, so that you're ONLY increasing 1mph per second, 0-60 in 60 seconds) But even then the next limiting factor is now the vehicle itself. What weight class is your vehicle, Compact, Mid size, full size of a sedan, suv, truck. Compact sedans having the highest fuel economy and full size trucks or suvs having the worst. CVTs, Hybrid or electric cars having a better fuel economy but lower towing capacities. The next thing is how many cylinders 4,6, or 8. The 8 cylinder has the highest Horse Power but paltry fuel economy. 4 cylinders have better fuel economy but lower horse power. So basically its a balancing act of performance or fuel economy. But electric cars kinda have great initial speed (they say, idk cuz i never drove an electric car) Long story short, as long as you drive a 4 door car you SHOULD have a better fuel economy than a bigger vehicle due to a smaller sized vehicle due to its weight and air drag potential.

There's a reason no campaign focuses on making people drive less aggressive in America. It's effin useless to try and curb people's driving behavior no matter how environmentally friendly or how many cars and people it saves. We live in a society that is is "United" while being selfish simultaneously. Yeah we're united until you have to "pull yourself up by the bootstraps." Work/life schedules (e.g., kids school), economy/inflation, income disparities, politics, etc. make people two things you shouldn't be on the road - 1) In a rush 2) emotional (e.g., angry, desperate, stressed, depressed, etc.). This doesn't even touch on the car culture that revolves around loving big engines and/or aggressive modifications. Here's the thing though. I'm not even criticizing those people unless they endanger other people. I'm just saying, be aware of your driving behavior and know how it affects your car and environment. The automakers CAN make cars that get 60-100 mpg, but there is absolutely no financial incentive to do so. People would buy cars very infrequently if that was the case. The entire worldwide monetary system is set up to keep customers coming back, not satisfy you one time for life. It’s just like doctors. Actually the factory can make cars run much cheaper but they dont, often because of cylinder temperatures. Makers of chip tuning dont care, they are happy to let the engine run too lean and hot to save some gas. For example, a small turbo engine can run on 13:1 ratio or less but when loading the engine harder the temps will be high so the mix need to be 11:1. Tuning companies dont care and lean it too much, causing engine damage over time. But noone takes scotty seriously, of course he dont know these basic things, but he is funny. Just dont take his advice on "dont buy car now" and "never do this".

I hate the fact that people buy those scam devices. Like you said, if they worked they would already be there. You really did cover all the most important things.

strong magnets on fuel line actually work. I have used them many years as a courier, and a good 10-20% improvement in mpg's was had.

You are forgetting one major thing: the less you have to use your brakes the better the mileage you will get

Another tip, not sure if its a real thing or just me, is to keep a constant speed. Dont fluctuate the speed so much when driving. Whether fast or slow, and itll use less fuel to get to your destination. Oc, this trick is hard to use in cities.

Another big one is simply changing your driving style. I was able to get over 40 MPG one month in my Ford Escape. It wasn't easy, and I took it to the extreme. But just by driving more slowly, and coasting more you can drastically improve your economy.

Driving slower to gain gas mileage depends on the engine and the terrain you’ll be driving on? I’ve driven to the coast a steady 55 mph and with having a less powered engine of course my vehicle slowed down to around 45 mph on the steep hills. Got 16 mpg in my car. Drove the same road again 65-70 mph where my car didn’t slow down as much on the steep hills and got 19 mpg. I believe the difference is driving slower makes your step on the gas pedal more when you hit the steep hills, whereas driving at higher speed speeds the momentum helps you get up the steep hills without having to step down on the gas pedal as much. But if you were always on level ground then the slower 55 mph may save a little fuel! Best thing I ever did to my car for better mileage was adding a K&N air filter. You do get better performance and you don’t need to step down on the gas pedal as much to go the same speed you were going before you added the K&N filter. My truck going up a hill to my home would only pull 2nd gear up the hill without the K&N, but after I put the K&N in my truck it pull the same hill in 3rd gear and able to climb the hill at a faster speed without having to step down on the gas pedal as much. People that say that don’t notice any difference in gas mileage is from their driving habits of always putting the pedal to the metal style driving. Naturally your not going to see any difference in gas mileage if your always putting your gas pedal to the floor. But if you drove the same roads at say 55 mph and checked your mileage. Then drove the same road again with the same vehicle still driving at 55 mph, I bet you see a increase in gas mileage as well as more horsepower especially when your climbing any steep hills. More so in smaller less horsepower engines! Been using K&N filters since I was riding ATV’s and dirt bikes and the K&N made so much difference in horsepower with those 250cc 2stroke engines and impressed me so much that I’ve been putting them in every vehicle I’ve owned for the last 45 years. I swear by these air filters myself!

Scotty what do you think about the portable air pumps? I hate going to gas station to put air in my tires. Can you recommend a good brand I want to keep it with me in case of emergency or if I see my tire needs a little air.

So, American cars with their automatic gearboxes. Can you engine brake with an automatic? In a manual here in Europe I can change down and use the engine to slow the car. And in modern cars, it shuts the fuel off while doing this, saving you loads of fuel. Can you do that in an automatic?

Hey Scotty a big question I hope you will see , remember the one’s who worked for oil company’s in the 70’s that came up with ways to make gas fuel cars and trucks use a completely different formula and every company bought these people off to hide these things , why can’t these company’s be forced to release things now ?

It's crazy I see that celica. I have the same one color and all sitting in my driveway broken down. I'm not saying celica is crap, this is my 2nd celica and I miss my first one so much. 92 gt hatchback 5 speed. 250k miles and minor upgrades. Ran like a champ and the motor was like a tank taking all the beating I put it threw. The broken down 97st "I really don't like this car compared to the 92. I've come across the worst time to bust a radiator and this control board that controls the windshield wipers plus something else idr.
