As an athiest, I have a lot of respect for Christians and other religious folk who use their doctrine as a guideline for themselves and not just a tool for control against others. Because a lot of religions as built with a structural hierachy inside of them, and that's usually on purpose; you don't write your bible in a language the masses can't read if you have the intention to let them make their own decisions, after all, nor do you tell them they will burn eternally if they don't do exactly what you say without ever asking questions. Religious people who feel genuine comfort by believing in their god, who aim to spread health and kindness to others because it is the right thing to do and not because they have something to gain, who do not believe their religion makes them in any way superior to others, who believe in goodness with their whole hearts and do not scoff at or attack people who live differently from them - those are good people. If a heaven does exist they alone would deserve to go there, and I would absolutely kneel down and lift them up on my back just to show them off to a god I don't believe in and say "This one. This one is good. They deserve the best." I rarely meet people who fit that criteria, but they do exist. And that's brilliant.

I cant force myself to put on a mask and pretend to be something I'm not. His use of the Bible and of religious scripture might be able to break through to some people who can't be persuaded by logic or reason. Therefore, I might donate to him as he is a public good. In the same way I donated to a religious hospital in the past that was doing great public good.

2:42 - 2:47 It is called a stole. Priests wear them for different occasions. Different colors represented different things. Green is for lent. I think red for communion and special occasions (like ordination and the like). Purple is for Easter if I remember correctly. They also usually have embroidery on them (either simple or elaborate. It kinda depends on the priests taste). Also, from what I have noticed in congregationalist circles some priests wear a stole all the time or only on special christian occasions. It kinda depends. Note: These stole colors are from the perspective of someone that is part of the congregationalist denomination in South Africa. I am not sure if these colors mean the same thing in other denominations. I think there are some cross-overs. Edit: Stoles are usually double-sided from what I have seen. That's because this message is about caring about others, helping others, and trying to understand others. It's about brotherly love and shutting off hate. Most pastors are afraid to speak the truth because they don't abide by the truth. So my father goes to a church that is very much like this pastor, and while he professes to be a bit of a quaker his and my step mothers beliefs seem to align with this kind of message. When the church had a problem when the previous pastor left because they had become accustomed to a high level of historical and biblical teaching..... anyway that woke pastor isn't the only one and it does fill me with some hope that people like that exsist

The Divine Comedy is made up of 3 books, Inferno, Purgatory, Paradise. There are no chapters, because it's all a poem. Instead, it is divided into cantos. Canto I, Canto II, etc. I've read the whole thing, just wanted to pass on the info! Inferno is the first book of the Divine Comedy.

And the Divine Comedy isn’t originally part of Christian Canon to begin with. It’s essentially religious fan fiction.

I attend a Unitarian Universalist Fellowship. I am also a Satanists. We do social justice action like this. Crowley said " Do what thou wilt shall be the whole of the law, will under love". In other words, when you are doing what needs to be done to exercise your true core will, it only contains pure love.

UU churches are wonderful. Seems like the unifying philosophy is a reverence towards life and a refusal to tell someone else that their way of expressing that is wrong. I wish growing up as a JW and turning into a stereotypical atheist didn't make me sort of uncomfortable with the more worship-y aspects of it.

Hi Owen, have you ever watched Rev Ed Trevors? I was a Christian over 45yrs. Been agnostic for 5yrs now. But I still like watching Rev Trevor's KZbin videos. He reminds me of the kind and loving faith I had. But the people who wear Christianity as some kind of badge to be cruel and hateful made me see the reality. I believe in truth and reality, and the Bible is definitely not either one of those things.

On your point about the separation between church and state, he attacked the NRA, an organization with 501(c)(4) tax exemption status, not a political party. While the NRA may highly politically involved, they claim to be a social welfare organization to the IRS. In the clips that you played, he mentions the religious right, but not any specific political party or politician. He does pretty decent at following the rules for a tax exempt organization.

As an Atheist viewer, I admire this man. He's actually teaching what Christians say that their religion is about, that being love and acceptance. It is a breath of fresh air to know that there are Pastors out there who actually pay attention to what they're reading and who actually follow what they're preaching.

I know a United Methodist pastor near where I live that teaches Christianity in the exact manner as this pastor here. Speaks of the exact same things regarding Eunuchs, does many things for the homeless, people who are addicted. I love everything about these pastors who preach love and acceptance rather than hate and division.

@melissawickersham99127 ай бұрын
@@jenna2431True. Declaring yourself as king or being declared by others as king was tantamount to treason in the Roman Empire. The Roman Empire was very serious about eliminating threats to their colonialist rule. They couldn’t tolerate letting a leader of a potential political rebellion live, even if said leader was a complete pacifist.

Actually, I believe except for the Catholic castrati, they took the "twigs" too. Castrati were singers that had been castrated so they could keep the high voices. Higher than even some sopranos. The most famous was Farenelli. Castrati, depending on when the "berries" were removed could still have erections and thus have relations with women, if they so chose to. Your typical eunuchs has all the parts removed which, obviously totally emasculated them. Most of the time it left them with severe incontinence. But because the "twigs" were gone too, they couldn't have relations with any of the women in the household they worked in. And, yes they ran around sounding like 8 year old girls.
@rsh7937 ай бұрын
Not Roman eunuchs - they were the boy toys of the day not the singers! They were before the ones you mentioned

Yeah it's interesting about the exposure of babies when very young across the ancient world. Spartan fathers did the same thing: if the baby was 'weak' according to the father it was just killed. At the same time, recorded in Roman-era Germany, a baby was left outside at night as a test. If it died in the cold or, you know, a wild animal, oh well.

Tbh if a random pastor came up to me in public and said “you’re a beloved child of God” I would brace for a following statement like “and you’re squandering that love!” or “and yet you’ve turned your back on Him to live in sin”, and I think the fact that it’s surprising that this pastor didn’t go there shows how far evangelicals have strayed from the core message of Christ. So often I only hear “love thy neighbor” being quoted to justify why they should treat their neighbor horrifically by claiming it’s a form of tough love (ie. “I have throw my child onto the street or they’ll never turn away from their homosexual sin” or “if we house the homeless, they’ll never learn a good work ethic”)
