my first car was a 68 camaro rs, i was 16 years old and spotted it in the lot of an auto repair shop while riding the elevated f train home from Lincoln HS in Brooklyn. I got off the train at the next stop and walked back to the shop to see if it was for sale. it was 12 years old, running but in kinda rough shape, I paid $250 for it and had for 5 years when it was stolen from in front of my house. i loved that car and wish I still had it, i currently drive a 2002 z28 convertible that is in "like new" condition but I would trade it in a second to have my old 68 back....even in the shape it was in when I first found it. I think it may be time for me to get another 68

That is really cool man. Love it! These old muscle cars and old smith & Wesson and Colt guns, especially their revolvers are both a huge part of American heritage. I have started collecting S&W revolvers and gonna buy some Colts soon. One day I'm going to start collecting old muscle cars too. It seems to me that roungly 1950-1975 where just an amazing time for America. So much amazing stuff was coming out, all so different than anything else at the time. The music blew up with jazz and blues and rock & roll and after 1968/69 James Brown drops funk on the world. The muscle cars coming out were unparalleled. The guns that S&W and Colt were producing where as much a work of art as the cars were. You had amazing movies and television shows coming out all the time too! Still a lot of black & white programs and movies, the film noir era blew up, shows like 77 Sunset Strip, Hitchcock, Twilight Zone, Naked City, Route 66, Peter Gunn all setting the style of the day. Actors like Steve McQueen, Paul Newman, Robert Redford, maroon Brando and so many others were turning out hit after hit. That had to be a great time to be alive and be old enough to appreciate it. Everything was hip. I wasn't born until 1981 and even as a kid I hated the 80's. I hated the style, the cars and just about everything. That was a major turning point in our history and most people never think anything of it. I love the old school over anything new period. Even have an old 60's console record player and a couple hundred vinyl records to jam on it.

They built the car first before they even had a name for it! I remember reading an article back in the later 70's in a hot rod magazine about the first 52' the owners and technical team only wanted these cars as basic transportation 230 & 3 spd it was the design team that wanted the big v8s and 4spd, Muncie rock crusher, rs, z28, SS, I remember the era of the 60'S and 70's! Had my first car at 16 back in 77' 1967 Chevy camaro 230 6cyl 2spd automatic, power nothing! Am radio and hub caps, not wheel covers was gold on black low back bench vinyl, I loved the car, paid $750 dollars for it, looked brand new with 62,400 miles on it, insurance back in that era cost me $550 dollars or probably about what it costs today, how ever if you added in inflation it would be like $2300 dollars... I had the car 2 months before someone stole it! 5 people piled in it and beat the crap out of it, was reported they were seen laughing as they ran into things with it and than a 5 mile chase with police until they flipped it over at about 80 mph and killing 4 out of the 5... everyone kept saying what a tragic accident those poor innocent kids!!! For real? I was the victim' I never got a dine for my woes, took me 2 hard years busting my little ass saving money for that car... I hope you enjoy yours more than I did!

Sweet looking car! I've always liked the 1967 Camaro. IMHO, this is the best looking of the first generation Camaro. While I appreciate the six cylinder engine and 3 on the tree, I would've preferred proper gauges, disc brakes, and all the options one could get for the car. :)

I'm not hating on the car or anything like that but I'm just wondering, why the Camaro? Why is this car on the National Historic Vehicle Registry. This is a wonderful car with a great story, but what about cars like the 1964 Pontiac GTO, 1964 1/2 Ford Mustang, Oldsmobile Rocket-88, and Chrysler C-300. Don't these cars deserve some recognition too?

Hmm. My first car in the early '70s was a beautiful, all original, low miles, LeMans blue '69 L78 SS Camaro with an M22 four speed. I shopped for a long time and looked at a lot of first gen Camaros before I located mine and I never found anyone giving them away.
