Esme, when I learned to lead a horse. My trainer told me to do big loops with the lead rope not small loops. Because, doing small loops was dangerous. But, your way makes sense.

fun fact - the reason we mount from the left is due to when soldiers had swords, they'd wear them on the left side so it avoids hitting/hurting the horse with the sword as good as it is to keep routine and do things from the left it's also good to desensitize from both sides 'just incase'

Just a heads up never use a fresh peace of bailer twine because if horses do feel the need to run away the bailer twine won’t break and could potentially pull down the object that they are tied to which could cause a huge accident , so I like to either half my bailer twine or use a safety tie up loop ❤

The reason why you handle horses on the left is because back then the knights their sword on their left side near there left leg and if they were leading their horses on the right they could have a chance of poking the horse with the sword witch could lead to serious injury.
