Oxtail was never ‘slave food’. Many Jamaicans never even tasted oxtail back in the day. It only became a popular dish among Jamaicans in the past few decades.

Pigs feet, oxtail, and cornmeal are all foods that were given to African Americans as leftovers during the slavery era. Now it’s become one of the most expensive meat.

The King and Queen of England and the Slave Masters throw away the tail of the cow and focused on the steak part of the cow. The slave owners in America and rich Americans did the same thing. The tail of the cow was not a desirable piece of meat back in those days and were used by slaves or used to feed pig and other livestock. I am 50 plus years old Jamaican and I have been eating oxtail since I was born. My father eat it and my grandfather eat it. So I think your information is incorrect.

@Stewy-xw9fz The OC is wyt and seems to have a problem with Afro Jamaicans all over YT. Imagine a dish Afro Jamaicans were fed during slavery, created an amazing recipe out of it, only to have someone like this commenter spouting nonsense. Even now, wyts in Jamaican look down on eating these kind of things. The audacity, where do these people come from?
@cleo631006 ай бұрын
@@Stewy-xw9fzEach cow only has one tail so they would have had to kill a lot of cows to get all those tails that you’re all talking about!

@@NativeNomad10First of all, all Jamaicans are simply Jamaicans - which you are clearly not! All you Americans do is make everything about race and division! Jamaica isn’t the USA so just focus on your issues and don’t speak about what you don’t know!

You can't come to Jamaica and buy from foreigners. Thats not the right thing to do, dude. If you are going to do that, you should not go back to Jamaica. I understand it's your money, but it is important to Support black businesses' only.

Thank you for your comment if you watched the video did you not see me go to the soup spot, Jangles for seafood, Rainbow Store where it’s giving locals a place to earn money, Babylove. I think your comment is an unfair comment or statement to make. This is showcasing Jamaican culture and vibrant food scene

What nonsense! Do you only buy from English people in England? Every country needs foreign investment and Jamaica is no different. One of the main sources of income in Jamaica is tourism so you will find people from all around the world. Ocho Rios is one of the many tourist areas with 5-star and other luxury and boutique hotels. Visitors arrive from all over the world. Many Jamaicans make a good living working in the tourism industry, whether as taxi drivers, hotel workers or other numerous jobs.

Not all Jamaicans are Black. Many Indo & Chinese Jamaicans own businesses, not just foreign born Indians and Chinese.
