my pawpaw lived in fayette (properly pronounced fet) all his life. he was county commisioner, sherriff, and they tried to make him mayor. he ran the williamson sawmill until the day he was worth a million dollars and he shut it down. refused to keep any syrup other than golden eagle in his house. he went to canada once and carried 3 jars with him.

I got no dog in this fight but I reckon there are two categories of snackability that oughta be recognized here. Category 1 is snacks meant to be washed down with a big ol' glass of cold milk while category 2 is things better suited to be chased down with an ice cold Coke. (And by Coke I mean Dr. Pepper.) It took me a good long while but I separated the results in a MS Multiplan spreadsheet if any of y'all's interested. If you wants a copy on floppy disk just text "Hold up Matt" to BR-549.

Instead of Priester's sweet pecans, I recommend roasted salted pecans from Wood Pecan. They have a big sign on 65S of Montgomery, the business is a few miles off the hiway but they are the best pecans.

Used to work with a company out of central Louisiana. Every year at Christmas would receive a “Louisiana Care Package” box. It would normally include a container of Community Coffee, a bag of Zapp’s potato chips, New Orleans pralines and other things I can’t remember off the top of my head. Bring that up because that would be a great idea, especially to help these smaller companies expand since like most of the other people have commented, had never heard of most of these previously.

Producers and Matt: I feel you need to do a second episode. Ranking salty and sweet snacks together is inappropriate. It is like saying Alabama and Auburn are both football teams. One is clearly not depending on your personal preference. And, one more thing-- after exposing us to these snacks, I think you should tell us where to buy them. Gladly make a run across the GA border to find these in Heflin or Oxford or Anniston. Heck, I would drive even to Sylacauga. Just say'n. (Keep up the great work. Your humor brought a touch of home to me when I was working overseas.)

In the snack universe there are two different factions, Sweet and Salty/Savory. If you're a salty snack person like me, sweet snacks are not really snacks, they're desert or treats. They are meant to be eaten is small doses as a reward of sorts. Snacks are the kind of thing you crack open an hour or two before dinner just to take the edge off and next thing you know the dinner bell is ringing and you're stuffed and can't eat Mama's chicken and dumplings. The exception to that rule is Priester's Pecans. They are the ultimate road food. It's the kind of place you stop on the way home from hunting camp in Butler Co and buy a bag or two for the family. By the time you get to Fultondale you've gone through the honey glazed and are halfway through the pralines and are so full you skip the Whataburger (because Chick Fil A is closed on Sunday).
