And even until now, South Korea politics and society haven't stopped being... one-of-a-kind (in a "dystopian" way) in the world

At least Republic of Korea is democratic, see the controversial president's martial law which was protested? Can't do the same in North Korea.

@@tryomamaBetween the worse of two Koreas, North Korea is the worst. In ROK we have chaebols (several families). But in North Korea we have 1 family controlling all aspects of life (Kim family). ROK citizens are also free to move out from their country if they don't like it & can protest Chaebols openly on streets & internet. While North Koreans have no chance of protesting Kim. Even the brother of Kim Jong Un, was assassinated when he fled out from North Korea

What happened to the Philippines? The American delegation made EDSA an example for democracy as shown in this report, now it fell behind, it is so slow in impeachment our brat Vice President, unlike South Korea which is now the new example for democracy after quickly impeaching Yoon Suk-yeol. How far we've fallen...

6:37 I just have a feeling the '87 democracy movement was a US regime change movement.

your feeling is incorrect. the US consistently supported South Korea's dictators from Syngman Rhee to Chun Doo Hwan, because the US had geopolitical interests in the country (e.g. US military presence in South Korea). In 1980, Under the Carter Administration, the US allowed a democratic movement in the South Korean city of Gwangju to be brutally surpressed by Chun Doo Hwan, the South Korean dictator at the time. The main reasons why democracy came to South Korea in 1987 can be said because of the efforts of the South Korean people, who had waged a democratic movement for a long time, and this democratic movement had finally succeeded. Other reasons such as the economic development of South Korea, which allowed the creation and further growth of a comfortable middle class who wanted to have more political rights, can also be said as a reason. But the main thing I want to stress is that it was not a 'US regime movement'. To say that would go against the facts relating to South Korean history and the democratic movement and what was the American role and interests in the country.

As always in dramas, the pure revolutionaries in the video quickly become corrupted once they take power. The good news is that, unlike North Korea, the revolutionaries are winning. The bad news is that the number of young people who will become revolutionaries is now decreasing the fastest in the world.
