I live in that area, and followed this case in the news as it was happening. I'm female, and also like hiking in the woods with my dogs. I'm almost positive that I saw Hinton and his dog in the woods, but thankfully he never tried to speak to me. Given the various locations where he attempted to get money from Meredith's bank account, he had to have have driven directly by my house at least twice. I, and many others, are endlessly grateful to Meredith for taking this guy down. I need to give a very special shout out to Miss Ella, who was also a true hero. She not only traveled for miles to find the local store, but she found the closest one. It's a very rural area, and had she gone in any other direction, she'd probably still be lost. Ella went in through the automatic doors (something dogs are often hesitant to do by themselves), went straight up to some humans and made it very clear that she needed urgent help. The people in the store suspected it was probably the missing dog and immediately called the police. Miss Ella got a very well deserved front page headline in the AJC about what a smart and good girl she was 😊 For anyone wondering, Meredith's parents adopted Ella and she spent the rest of her long life as spoiled as any dog could hope for. 💖
@WobblesandBean2 жыл бұрын
I wouldn't call Ella a hero. She's a dog, she has an incredible sense of smell and went straight to town probably seeking food. By humanizing her so much, you're ignoring that at the end of the day she is still an animal with animal instincts, as well as taking attention away from Meredith. Notice how you wrote one sentence about her, and an entire essay about the dog?
@nobody83282 жыл бұрын
@@WobblesandBean Notice how I wrote an entire essay about Ella on purpose to add a part of the incident that few people seem to cover? My comments are paraphrased from things that Meredith's parents said about Ella. They wanted everyone to know how proud Meredith would have been of her friend Ella, so I figured I'd mention it. I think that you overestimate the instincts and abilities of domesticated city dogs. Most animals that have been raised in a city by humans are as lost as most humans in the woods or any other unfamiliar area. Ask any animal shelter or pet rescue about how well abandoned animals are able to care for themselves. If I were personifying Ella, I would have insulted her. Instead, I pointed out the things she did that were above and beyond what most domestic dogs would have done. Personally, I think that Meredith would be upset to know how little attention Ella is generally given when her case is covered. One of the things her parents made clear was how very much Ella meant to her.

Yes! You nailed it. It took incredible strength and courage to continually give him the wrong pin and runaround. She was smart to realize that the more time and miles he traveled the more possibility there would be for him to make a mistake or for her to escape. It’s a shame that fate didn’t intervene by way of car trouble, or being pulled over for speeding or something like that. It’s sad to think of her praying for some form of rescue that never came. In the interrogation, referring to the situation with the woman who disarmed him while fighting for her life: " It was not my finest hour." What a deplorable p.o.s. The narcissism and the gleeful retelling of it...Wow!

I worked for the forest service during the summers while I was going to college. I worked in the Sierra’s above central California tracting spotted owls in the early 90’s. Every summer while I worked up there I was on the lookout for wanted people spotted in our area and one day walked into a hidden camp of two wanted men along a creek where I found ladies lingerie, ladies wigs, condoms and wrappers, and a smoldering fire. I also ran into a man one day who was also wanted and ran off when he saw me stand my ground. The reason I am saying this is to let people know that wanted men head to the mountains to live in campgrounds and get away from people. They look for unarmed, unaware people who if you are lucky they will rob your camp when you are away, If they are desperate who knows what they may do. Never go camping without a plan or a way of protecting yourself! A side arm !

I listen to these episodes and oftentimes think how grateful I am to live in the Carolinas, nowhere near these monsters you document; and then you slip this guy in. In the early years of our marriage, my husband and I were avid outdoorsmen - camping, hiking, fishing, canoeing - every chance we got, which was most weekends. Even our honeymoon was spent exploring the Blue Ridge Parkway. So hearing that this disgusting creature was haunting the places we regularly visited is very frightening. It's horrifying to think that you could be out doing the things you love, things you've done for years without incident, only to become prey to a loathsome animal like Hilton.

Hello dear "This is Monsters" team. I really appreciate your work on investigating these themes and i'm really addicted to your type of narrating these cases. I'm from Germany and therefore English is my foreign language but i can easily follow each word you're saying. Thanks for being so accurate that i have no problem to follow your content fluently. But there is something very important i have to mention. Also men are experiencing violent abuse by their girlfriends or wifes and because these guys are too gentle to sue them they are also suffering. All i want to say is that you just should involve men in your very important advices at the end of your videos. Keep it up and best wishes from Germany, Anna
