I'll just say the character is an idiot. Mick Taylor is so over-the-top, he almost made me laugh. I was waiting for him to start dancing. Henry in the film Henry the Serial Killer is unforgettably horrifying. Just my humble opinion. There is no right or wrong about what scares someone.

Nah, he's a wannabe. Yes, he took the life of someone who trusted him, (on the kid's birthday, from memory), this much is true. However, despite Milat's nephew clearly having an ego and *massive* insecurities, I sincerely doubt he has antisocial pd. If anything, his family was in on it. He was openly fucking his brothers wife's and they were so scared of him, they let him continue. It's not a far stretch to say he forced some to be involved in some of his crimes, hence why they would do whatever he said. Also, alot of detectives believe alot of the crimes had all the hall marks of him having at least one accomplice.

I've herd this case many times before but was still interest to hear your take on it as you tend to be far more insightful and dive into aspects of the killer than other people. I have to say, the one thing that really blows my mind every time about this case is how most of his family still refuse to believe he's guilty. They even kicked one of his brothers out of the family for believing justice was done in this case. I never wonder how his nephew ended up a killer growing up with a family like his. The poor boy was taught to idolize his serial killing uncle. Nothing more to say than this was one messed up family and thank you for another wonderful review.

Ivan did some work for around 2 month near Newcastle about an hour and a half from Sydney. While working up here a young girl went missing and has never been found. This guy took more people than we know about.

When this story was at its height in Australia I was at a stand up comedy bar and a drunk female patron standing next to me at the bar started yelling “Ivan Milat is Innocent!.” It was well handled by the comedian at first but then she wouldn’t stop and ruined his performance and she had to be thrown out. It blew my mind because we all knew he wasn’t innocent.

I remember when the rich kids all had a gap year and went backpacking. I cannot believe some of these beautiful young women were backpacking on their own. Even in those days you’d still not want to hitch hike, as you just don’t know who’d pick you up. My heart goes out to all the families who lost a loved one. He ended up being found innocent through DNA evidence. He had a horrific time in prison. People putting shit and broken glass in his food. But hopefully these days there aren't many innocent people wrongly convicted. Imagine if he'd been murdered by an inmate. Though if I had been in his situation Id rather die. Losing your freedom is bad enough, but everyone thinking you're an evil pedophile would be even worse

In 1999 I stayed in a residential rehab for three months, in that time I got to know a guy who had been a farm manager in northern New South Wales, the same state as the Belanglo forest, and this guy took me aside one day to tell me about an experience he had...... Sitting in a pub one afternoon, he was approached by a guy who told him that he had seen him checking fences out on a property, near where coincidentally, his car had broken down, he had hitched into the town to buy a part to repair his car and had seen my friend walk into the pub, so, he had decided to ask my friend if he could give him a ride back out near to where his car was, if he was going back that way. My friend said sure. So, they drive out and my friend points to a turnoff to the property he manages as they drive along, he thinks the guys car must be near so has decided to take him to it, there is no car, the guy has been watching my friend all day and followed him when he drove into town, watched him go into the pub, followed, told him the broken down car story, and now pulls out a handgun. My friend is trembling telling me about this, describing how the guy told him to drive further into a wooded area, they reach a fire access road and my friend is told to get out of the car...... As they are standing there, the sound of a Forestry Ranger vehicle can be heard approaching, the guy jumps in my friends car and takes off leaving my friend standing there in utter terror....... As my friend, who is now overcome with emotion, is telling me this, he looks up and says, it was Ivan Milat...........!! I was the only person he had told this to, and I believe him.

I remember going to outdoor races in the mid 1980’s in the Balangelo State Forest. We’d heard about these backpacker murders and whilst we were of the right age, we didn’t hitchhike and therefore weren’t scared. Many years later, I remember Ivan getting busted. Thanks Jiles.. excellent as always… This story has always been a twisted one.. Ivan was a sick sick monster.. I can’t imagine what his victims endured.. thankfully he was caught.. When they get away from consequences it’s so frustrating.. And his nephew? Wow.. his story is just gross.. bragging about who his uncle was until he managed to kill some innocent soul himself .. if I remember correctly, he didn’t have the name millat to start, but wanted the association.. I might be misremembering but I know he was super proud of his nasty relative 🤦‍♀️ just awful..

This is exactly why I was not happy to hear from my daughter, that when she was done with school, she wanted to go backpacking in Europe. She ended up not going, which is good and bad in so many ways. When I was growing up in the 60's and 70's, this was not a concern, because we had no idea stuff like this was going on out there in the world. Probably because our whole world was our neighborhood, and school. Completely oblivious. The internet sure changed that. Bless the souls of these victims. RIP 💟

My sister was a high school teacher about a decade ago and taught one of his distant nephews (I don’t remember the exact relationship) but it wasn’t the one that killed his friend with an axe in 2010. She said that this kid wouldn’t stop boasting about how his uncle was “the notorious Ivan Milat”. Apparently he was obviously dangerous and got sent to a school for troubled kids, always threatening people. I don’t know if it’s genetic or generational trauma but there’s obviously something wrong with worshiping a family member that committed such horrible crimes.

I’m from Australia so have heard this story. But I like listening to you... you’re great. It’s funny hearing people from from other countries pronounce suburbs and states. You didn’t butcher them too badly 😂 I lived in the US for a bit and sometimes I said things and Americans had no idea what I was saying. Such as Cozzie or Slippery Dip! I watch so many murder shows, so much goes on in the US. Like no where near as many things happen over here. But far out this sick guy is up there! Love your work 💜

It's NOT that "so much" goes on in the U.S. as you said. It's the fact that there are about 331 million people in U.S. and only about 26 million in Australia. Obviously "so much" more happens in U.S. because of sheer numbers. Has this never occurred to you? FYI- Just the state of California alone has over 40 million people if that helps you. Or: Just the state of Florida alone has about the same population as your ENTIRE country.

The excellent movie Wolf Creek is loosely based on Ivan Milat and another backpacker killer, Bradley Murdoch. Great coverage of these horrifying murders. RIP to all the victims and so sorry to all of their families

Incredible research on all of your posts. I am an Australian born at a time to really remember the horrific crimes the Milat brothers perpetrated here. Yes it was the brothers. Not just Ivan, although he was the main murderer. Our Crown prosecutors definitely took the road down to Ivan being the main culprit. The main Judge in sentencing Ivan Milat, Justice David Hunt, acknowledged that he probably did not act alone in many of these murders. Richard Milat in particular is very suspect. There were a number of different brands of cigarettes smoked at the crime scenes . There were also so many different M.O’s in the way the victims were killed, it is highly likely more than one Milat was the killer. Alex Milat is also highly likely to have been involved. Horrific, horrific murders.

This creep grew up 20 minutes from my house , I love Sydney but I hate the fact that the sentencing here is a joke,. Unlike the U.S which has much more adequate sentencing especially for pedophiles, I lived in San Bernardino for many years and around Orange County and I learned that in most cases bail was denied for the majority of felonies. What a sick case. Well done to the detectives who finally cracked the case wide open, although I don't know why the woman didn't contact police earlier since she picked up the man who escaped. All that evidence is mind blowing! Thankfully, the 7 families got their loved ones home and buried them properly. I remember watching a show about this monster and they talked about how he would toy with his victims even so much as to render a few completely helpless by severing their spine before torturing then killing them. One of his brothers was interviewed and he is ashamed and disgusted by what Ivan did to these poor people.

Highly recommend Stephanie Harlow. It might be spelled Harlowe (I forget). She is INCREDIBLY detailed. I don’t know how she even finds so much information. Some cases are covered over two or more videos as she’s so detailed. & she has a podcast with a retired detective as they go over cases together & the former detective gives his thoughts based on his training. She is truly a remarkable story-teller.

Actually met him twice First time he was clean shaven and hanging around a park. Talking to little kids 2nd time he had a moustache and beard looked nothing like he did before I worked in a shopping centre collecting trolleys I was ordering lunch he was ordering his lunch from same place I didn’t recognise him. With the beard. Only after they caught him and made the news did I recognise him. It turned out I saved those little kids lives when I called out to them saying their mother is calling them.
