It has been very refreshing lately to see more over 40-50-60 KZbin startups recently. I’m 68 and my target audience are seniors who struggle with technology. I put a lot of emphasis on staying safe online! KZbin is not just for the younger generations!

Created my first channel in my late 30s. Sort of burned out after 4 months. Took me 5 years of planning, writing and overthinking to finally get this new channel started (launching at the end of this month). I agree with you. There's always someone out there who wants to know what you already know. Especially stuff you think everyone already knows. I'd find myself in 30-minute conversations with friends and then I'd pause and think, I wish I'd recorded all this! The biggest hurdle for me was fitting content creation (I used to dread editing) into my already busy adult life (full time job, family responsibilities, etc.) It seems living life and doing stuff (investing, etc) will always take precedence over creating videos to talk about what I'm doing.

Great advice. I started last month by posting shorts and now I have just posted my second video. Still super nervous especially for my intro and outro. Not sure why I keep messing those up. But I'll get there eventually. I'm 47 and thought I was too old to start but I noticed there are many on here that are above 40. So I guess we're never to old for anything really. 😄

I'm 63 and started my health, wellness, and beauty channel 2 years ago. I love it! At first I was really focused on becoming monetized. When I found out how hard that is, I relaxed and began to be more genuine and relatable. My subscribers like it when I'm sharing my vulnerability. Now I'm focused on building my little community and just sharing my knowledge and experience. I'm happier with my content creation now because I'm more relaxed.

I just turned 60 and decided to start my own channel. I love helping people, sharing the things that I am constantly learning to make life better, save money or what ever. I feel that You Tube would be a great platform to share and make some passive income. I love your style of quick, simple and personable. I have a low tolerance for BS and people thinking that I want to spend 30 minutes to watch them peel potatoes! I am in the latter stages of gathering information, research and my druthers. 😂I am going to make video #1 soon. Thank you so much for vocalizing these things we take for granted being over 40! 🥰

Oh wow, I'm 48 and starting my channel with Amazon product Reviews. I totally agree with IG and FB being so time-consuming. It drained me when I thought about how often you have to post to get ONE person to see you. Now I don't have a product, nor do I have money to invest. I'm not sure where to begin if I want to start another KZbin channel. I was thinking lifestyle, and I did start working on an idea of helping women over 40 like myself feel fabulous every day. I was using my own experience and mostly talking to women who are homemakers and work from home. I'm so passionate about this but not sure how I can translate this on KZbin. I'm watching your videos and they are very interesting. It seems easy to follow. I just wanted to share my thoughts and say that your videos are amazing!!!

I do enjoy watching videos with little editing. People who can bring you value through their words, without adding an effect every 3 to 5 seconds, without using fancy microphones or backgrounds are worth watching and learning from. This is Authenticity. It's fun being you, offering value through your knowledge and engaging with people.

Love how you are being yourself When you cried on the last video I watched of yours, I cried with you, I'm 47 years old and hate taking pictures because I've gained weight and haven't had any since I was 40 and I thought I wanted to leave my legacy and memories for my sons and hopefully for my future decedents. I am a maker. I love to teach the things I know to help people get started doing the things they are too afraid to try, or just dont know where to start. I am sooooo adhd though. LOL. I bounce around way too much. I watched a video or two of yours and then I saw the challenge and the simple steps. I’ve wanted to do videos… not sure where to start. But I love a good challenge. So… I’m going to see what comes of it. I think the best thing about just starting off is…. I don’t have tons of followers. So if I mess up… not a lot people are going to see it. LOL. My wife just turned 40 last year and recently started an online course niche channel. Of course, this has inspired me just like this channel. I'm in my 50's also trying to start a channel. I think a lot of our generation has this perception that it's only the younger folks who can be successful at this KZbin thing. You can count me out from doing all those silly Tik Tok dances that's for sure. However, what I think is to our advantage is our longer life experiences that could resonate with a future audience. There's an audience for everyone you just have to be authentic to weed out from all the noise out there. Who you are is who you are going to attract. I wish everyone the best. Now get out there and film away. Your first 10 videos may suck but we have to start somewhere. I know mine will but I'll go easy not to beat myself up on all the little mistakes along the way. The most important thing is to have fun doing this. Just press record....but do it gently. 😊

I'm 65 and started my movie comparison channel last Christmas. The first video was really hard to do, because I put too much in it (it was an hour and 40 minutes long), and I had a hard time remembering everything I wanted to say. But it got a pretty good response, so I felt encouraged. The thing is, I spend a lot of time doing some pretty in-depth analyses, and I don't feel like I can just wing it (because my memory is not so great). I've been using a teleprompter for quite a while to help with those issues, but I think it often sounds like I'm reading my script (sometimes I can make it sound more natural). I've tried working with bulleted points to sound more natural... .which used to work great when I had to give scientific talks, but it either isn't so great for this type of thing, or I just don't have the memory/stamina for it anymore. I wish I could convince my partner to come on camera with me, because it would be so much easier if I were really talking to someone in person, but he prefers to stay behind the camera and also doesn't have the same kind of analytical focus that I have. I feel like I've tried everything, and I'm still not happy with the way I come off.

I am not a woman, and I am not 40 yet, but I have been following you on instagram for some time and I must say that I agree with your points. Instagram requires alot of work which is hard specially to someone with many obligations, you inspired me to post on KZbin, it feels much more personal and I believe its lower maintenance. Sure love your advice and content, and thank you your time

I needed to hear this! I am in my early 60s and want to drive some traffic to a part-time business to supplement my income. I don't want to work 40-60 hours a week. I have grandkids and other stuff to do but in these economic times, we need a little something extra. I don't want to sit for hours editing a video, my hands and back won't take that kind of punishment anymore. I don't want to learn a really complicated editing program. I need to be able to produce a few videos and then take short breaks to recoup. I'm going to try your method(s). Thanks so much!

I am so so so so grateful for your help with explaining how to film a video from anywhere with your phone! I want to start my KZbin channel, and I was so worried about not having a filming schedule or topics. The niches I like are decorative & functional planning and showing how to use the planner to make organizing your life pretty and fun, like so many, many, many KZbinrs in the Planner Community that i am following 😊, however, only a few show you how they are doing it…so I appreciate you so much! Thanks 🙏🏾 again, Arlene 😊

Very interesting, especially as I am so new. Heartening advice, being a few steps ahead of someone. What I noticed on X was that my posts would simply disappear into the void. Here on KZbin, whilst on a steep learning curve each video has the potential to be useful for a long time to come,

I’m so excited you’re back!! I’m trying to share more stories on my KZbin channel and it’s more fun! While I’m focused on KZbin, it’s so hard to do Instagram!

I get it! I’m focusing on KZbin over Instagram for the first time. And I’m excited. Also using activity goals over results goals. It’s a mix of vlogging storytelling and teaching! Can’t wait to see what I learn- I’ll share it all with you ❤️❤️❤️

New follower! I am finally getting off my butt and in the early stages of mapping out what I want to post in videos to KZbin, TikTok and IG. WHo my target audience will be, ETC. I have wanted to be a content creator for over 10 years. Fear of failure always stopped me. My husband and I are 49 and love to travel. We want to share our budget travel tips as well as the actual trips we take. I also live in a touristy area so I can always find content to share near me. I look forward to following your content!

This is so refreshing! I’m so over Instagram (trying to embrace it but they just keep changing!!!) I am almost 45 and starting out on KZbin. I am so overwhelmed with making videos on here. I was told by someone just repurpose your insta videos. So I do but I find the shorts have lots of views but my longer videos, not many. Would love some suggestions for a food blogger for home cooks. Thanks x

Virginia this was sooo helpful!! I’m almost 50 too (right behind ya) but I’ve always shied away from KZbin (except shorts) because it seemed to complicated (having perfect set up, camera, mic etc) so seeing that it doesn’t have to be perfectly produced is encouraging. I’ve always struggled with IG ‘cuz I’m too wordy so YT actually seems like a good fit for me. Thanks for the inspiration.

I'm over 50 and I started youtube channel about 3 years ago. I started a cooking channel. I'm originally from Macedonia, Europe but I have been over 30 years in Michigan, so when I started my videos I started showing my self and speaking broken English and thought I will be interesting to people and will like to watch me. My channel name was Maryann's Kitchen but "no" No one liked me or watched me. Then I decided to change my channel name to Orhidea Recepti and now I don't show my self on camera but I speak Macedonian on the videos. It's hard for me to do videos, I don't know anything about editing or anything. Last year I stopped for a year and this year I'm starting again. I don't know how long I can do this since it's hard. But watching your video (the last one from today) you made me to feel more positive about making videos even if they are not perfect. Please make more videos like this and tell us to keep trying even if the videos are bad . Over 3 years on KZbin and only little over 2k subs. Thank you for been you! ❤🎉🌹⚘️

Do you use a teleprompter? I'm asking this here because it's almost impossible for you to be using one in your car, yet you are talking for many minutes without any obvious cuts. [ I realize you swung around and didn't show a prompter in your windshield mount]. In your studio productions, you walked around a lot and there were many cuts, so I figured you were either using a teleprompter some of the time, or else being extemporaneous and cutting out the bad stuff later on. Thanks for the great tips and techniques. You're an effective teacher.

I'M 53 AND RETIRED SO I WANT A CHANNEL TO MAKE MONEY BUT NOT BE A FULLTIME THING. THIS VIDEO REALLY HITS HOME FOR ME. THANKS!

This is such a great video Virginia. I’ve grown my IG community and built my YT channel on shorts alone. I’ve dabbled with a few videos. I have been completely burned out by IG and niches down so much I feel trapped. I’m 53 and have so much knowledge about lots of things. This was super inspiring to me. You gave me a kick in the ass. I need to drop IG. It’s just so easy and addicting. BTW-what camera do you use?

@@ThisIsVirginiaKerr I have an existing youtube channel that is getting some traction. I used to be really good at posting videos to it regularly, but then I got caught up in thinking that the videos need to look more professional, so I got sidetracked from posting. This is my reminder to just get in front of the camera and start talking again.

It’s been in my mind for years to start a KZbin, but I keep not doing it and feel like time has passed. I’m 55. I keep feeling like I need to find a purpose and do something that makes a difference in the world somehow. KZbin would fill my creative and organizational aspects of my personality. I just don’t know what people would find interesting with me. I’m starting a running journey I thought of that but millions of people have those out there on KZbin, I am constantly learning and teaching myself new things like, how to renovate a basement but tons of people do all the things that come up in my mind that I could possibly do a KZbin channel on so it seems like there’s nothing left
