Generation Next | How to Reface a Fireplace with Granite
Refacing a fireplace surround is a two-person job. Use caution when handling heavy materials.
It's challenging to match granite, so it makes more sense to order four new pieces rather than just one or two replacement pieces. A local stone fabricator can template the fireplace and cut and round each piece to the appropriate size. In this case, Mark used granite in the color Black Pearl, fabricated by International Stone, Inc..
To adhere the granite to the fireplace, Mark used a concrete construction adhesive manufactured by Quikrete.
The other materials Mark used for this job, including the chisel, hammers, and buckets, can all be found at home centers.
How to Start an Organic Garden
Jenn gives some tips on starting an organic garden.
In order to qualify as organic, every material used in the garden must be certified organic. Check the labels of plants, soils, and even potting material to be certain everything is actually organic.
Everything Jenn demonstrated in the segment, including the seeds, seedlings, planters and soil, can all be found at home centers and nurseries.
How to Install a New Kitchen Faucet
Richard helps a homeowner replace the shutoff valve underneath her kitchen sink and then updates her kitchen faucet.
Richard installed the Fairbury Pull-Down Kitchen Faucet in stainless steel, manufactured by American Standard. It comes with washers and gaskets and most of the materials required to install it.
Richard repaired the stem on the kitchen faucet shutoff valve using a multi-turn valve stem repair kit, manufactured by BrassCraft.
Everything else he used in this project, including the wrench, screwdriver, plumber's putty and soap dispenser, can be purchased at home centers and plumbing supply stores.

I just don’t think it was done properly... you should always epoxy the seams to make it look waaaay better. Color match or as some like to do a clashing seam like white or blue or grey. Seen some crazy stuff done with stone.

I agree. I’m getting ready to buy a 1960s built country home that has two brick ones. I’m looking at doing a concrete stone finish instead though just because I’ve wanted a stone looking fireplace for forever. But brick instead of this granite in this one for sure!

Built-in Soap Dispenser: So refilling it can involve crawling under the sink.

The pump lifts out the top and you refill it from the top. You don't need to go under the cabinet

Fantastic!! Richard... I'm gonna go fix those valves under my sink!!! There must be something similar for the old sink knobs too, right?. Can't afford replace the faucet.. so I'm betting that the hardware under the knobs is probably similar! I hope... I going to take them apart too, while I have the water shut off and fix them all at the same time. Whew! Thanks!!!

I just swapped out a kitchen faucet today. They left out the part where the plastic nuts that are holding the old faucet to the sink break when you try to turn them. So you're forced to destroy them to release the faucet.

@@JMCote112 you know, I buy all the right stuff, do it all the correct way……………… only to come a year later and it laugh in your face. I even have the red 50 in one tool for plumbing that has a section for those plastic nuts. It lines up perfectly and all. But as soon as you turn those Chinese plastic nuts just snap and laugh. And of course!!!!!!!!!! They’re tucked up in the hardest most deepest part known to man. 😂

I'm not so confident in those plastic stem replacement kits, most plastic I've seen after 5+ years in service starts to get brittle. I wonder is those plastic stems will snap off after 10 years under a sink like that.

Don't use putty under those plastic "gaskets". Plumber's putty is incompatible with many plastics. Most of the major brands are now recommending silicone.

Why do a multi turn instead of a quarter turn water valve?

Because you can rebuild multi turn valves when they fail unlike quarter turn where you will have to replace the whole valve which not everyone knows how especially if it's a soldered valve.
