Those "caps" as you call them are Welch plugs. They should really only be removed in cases of extremely dirty carbs, salt water submerged motors or to get to completely blocked passages - a very rare condition indeed. Keep on producing those videos, they are helpful.

When you bent the tab to instal the float (23:30) you didnt do it upside down measuring how far the float comes out (theres a measurement for that for Johnson in the manuals).

I just purchased the same motor and I noticed that there isn’t a screen or a box or anything at all covering the front of the carb on mine and I didn’t see one on urs, so do these motors not having anything to block debris? Thank u

Nope. Make sure you don’t run them with the cowl off
@PerryGage5 жыл бұрын
thisoldoutboard that’s what I figured. Thanks so much for the reply. One more question if u don’t mind, it’s alittle rough at idling, I was thinking maybe change the spark plugs, but is there a idle screw I can adjust?
@thisoldoutboard5 жыл бұрын
The low speed needle is set, no adjustment on the model I have. Make sure the bowl is screwed tightly to the upper half and is getting a good seal.

Hi, how can i remove the diffuser? my diffuser acts as a plug to lock the nylon diaphragm to de-power the motor. I have to remove the diffuser to remove the bushing but I can't do it. above there is a small carving maybe for a screwdriver but I tried it easily ruins the seat

Does your tiny slow speed idle screw have any retainer? Mine looks the same with no retainer and it keeps rattling in or out when motor is running.

Yeah some have a felt / rubber bushing / washer. What year?

@@thisoldoutboard I figured and mine probably needs one as it’s too lose. I ordered some online tiny little rubber o-ring but slightly fatter that the area around the screw where I pressure should be sitting and holding it from rotating on its own, I’ll find a way to make it fit.

Are the jets supposed to be set or are they just snugged up and then it’s ready to go?

The brass pickup that sits in the center of the float. Mone has a smaller brass tube within the pickup. Is the smaller tube supposed to move free inside the pickup? My is snug and is kinda tilted to one side so it actually rest on the side wall of the pickup. This normal, I cant really tell how yours is in this video.

Thats how the are buddy. Ive done 9 so far and they all rest on one of the walls of the larger brass tube.. I thought the same thing my first time.

@@chuckcecconi4571 in the video the small brass tube scooter0241 refers to sticks up. Mine is well below the slot on the larger tube. My 1980 motor (I just purchased) floods bad. Could this be the reason? The larger tube has a slot. I thought it was to remove it. I found out otherwise.
