I saw a great explanation of this song and want to share: There are lots of Korean wordplay, so some lines of lyrics might feel awkward, These are some clues that you can understand the song more. 88: GD's birthday is 18.08.1988, So he puts his own meaning on the Number 8. That's why he wrote so many 8s in his lyrics. You can see the Metro map on 2:03, it's a track-list of his up coming album, there are 8 tracks. The last line of lyrics ("Fly high"): The original Korean lyrics' pronunciation is "Pal Pal Nara" (Means fly high). There is a wordplay as well, 'Pal' is 8, same pronunciation, and 'Pal Pal' is kind of onomatopoeia, 'Nara' is Flying, so this line was translated flying high in English. And that's why the ending scene shows 8 8 (Pal Pal) and GD jumps (Flying) (Nara) In addition, he came back in 88 months since his last comeback. The meaning the wordplay of the lyric "Spot to rest, a Global Luxury": The original Korean Lyric is this, 누울 자리 글로벌 명품 "Nu ul Jari, Global Myong pum (Glo / bal myong pum)" In here, Glo means text, lyrics, writings, everything about word or text. Global is global, the exact English word, but here's the thing, Bal myong pum is Invention. So he connected two Korean words to one English word (Glo + bal). And Myong pum is luxury, the words share same pronunciation, so these are some wordplay using pronunciation of Korean and English. This is crazy wordplay. in my opinion, GD likened home("Spot to rest") to every goal such as social status, honor, his position in the field, and he invented his goals, and it's also luxury. The main hook "I don't give a shh, Laughing end 'Money' Donating 'millions' Grin": last year, GD was suddenly investigated for drug scandal. During the investigation, every single time he attended to police station, he said "I don't care because I never drugged." At the result, the truth is GD was innocent, at the photo-line in front of the police station, he laughed. After the scandal, he recognized that the risk of drugs in Korean society, He founded a foundation for drug eradication, he donated KRW ₩ 300 million (about USD $ 218,828). So this story is where the lyrics came from. Meaning of "Power Abuse questioned Tolerance Natural Disasters Unavoidable Circumstances" During the drug investigation, journalists raised him a suspicion of Power abuse for having Drugs, at the same time, Korean News channels delivered that rumor without fact-check. However after investigation, he was innocent, and he was possible to accuse those News channels, but he was tolerant to them, he announced he will not get a court. This is the story of "Power abused questioned Tolerance" (Natural translation is like "I was tolerant when I was questioned Power Abuse"). Natural Disasters (천재지변: Chun Jae Ji Byun) = (천재, 지병: Chun Jae,[Genius] Ji Byoung[Chronic illness]) same pronunciation wordplay. Genius always has Chronic illness, and it's unavoidable circumstances (irresistible force). Meaning of "Forcefully criticize Spread a meme Talk blah blah shout out": During the investigation of drug, some news channels, fake news KZbinrs, and social media delivered GD's old interviews. In the interviews, he looked like he was addicted to drugs, because he speaks slowly, suddenly smiles, unnatural facial describing and his eyes. And these became memes and many publics criticized him. It was such a baseless criticism. People talked behind his back, but when after he finished the investigation, suddenly many people changed their attitudes, shout out him as usual like they haven't betrayed him at all. I feel like the concept of the übermensch which is mentioned once in the beginning plays a significant role in the theme of the song a lot of translations of the German word are kinda inaccurate and translate the word übermensch as Superman but the word über translates to above and Mensch means human so the accurate translation means above human and fits more with the definition of Nietzsches übermensch as a person that is above or superior to the ordinary human. According to Nietzsche the „übermensch“ is a desirable state of being. He names the übermensch in relation to gods and heroes. Gods have already been referenced by Nietzsche as an invention of humans and with that the übermensch also represents a condition that humans can reach by getting rid of all forms of prejudice including morality or our principles concerning the distinction between right and wrong or good and evil which according to Nietzsche is a slave morality to keep all people at the same level of herd animals even those that could have the potential to achieve a higher state of being. Thus the übermensch is someone that defines their own values overcomes themselves and owes nothing to anyone. His korean lyrics weren't translated well, so I understand your confusion. In the beginning he says that there're some people tried to denigrate him with certain misleading photos and clips. But they got proved wrong. It could be many people but certainly reminds the incident that he was wrongfully accused for the illegal drug use charge recently and all kinds of circus around it. He donated millions for stopping illegal drug after that. That's why he mentioned donation. So basically the song is about 7 years of his life. The news show you mentioned interesting has subtitle says "a day of GD" I guess he want to say how media and people microscoping his life. The 8 tracks on the album is on the Metro Map (inside the train posted on the left). GD uses red a lot in his vids and performances. His last tour, Act III: M.O.T.T.E World Tour used the red theme with the Truman Show as an inspiration, in support of Kwon Ji Yong EP (2017). The physical release was a USB flash drive covered in red. Included in there is the track Untitled, 2014 (piano ballad). He wore a red outfit in the mv. That was one take that took about 30 mins.

Thank you for this reaction, Roscoe! I watched somebody else react to this song from a music perspective; he loved the beat, the music, the flow of the song. However, GD's vocal timbre was so abrasive to my ear that I felt this immediate visceral dislike and couldn't pay attention. I thought I'd get your perspective when I saw your reaction, sort of giving myself a second chance. It helped that you analyse mv's from a director's perspective and try to drill down on the lyrics. It helped me look at this mv with curiosity. Also remembering all the scuttlebutt about GD in the military and after he was discharged, I kinda think this song is all about some anger and having a point to prove. I still can't warm up to his voice, but if this is his style then I wish him all the best, his fans would want him back in the groove.

I am not sure but his lyrics might be related to some incident in 2023. South Korea has very strict laws about drugs - using marijuana, cannabis, or pot with many other drugs. In 2023, many powerful people ( prosecutors, newscasters and broadcasting stations) intensively investigated for many months because GD is a famous entertainer. He insisted that he did not use any drug from the beginning. At the end, they could not find any evidences for his involvement of that case, and they announced that he was clean and let him go from the case. According to his interview later, even though he was cooperative for this investigation and eventually he was free at the end, it was very hard experience for him.
