This was only episode 2, & remember also they were shot before they were aired I believe, anyway I don’t think he had a contract yet.

He had been apart about 3 months at this stage when his father surprised him. And he had always had some family with him prior/was longest he’d been away at that stage in his life. Whatever thing you tried to bring up about contracts has nothing to do with anything. That was later. I simply added more info to your post- that it was about 3 months and AT THAT TIME the longest he’d been away. The guy with the “big hair” sitting with his band mates is part of the rock band called, funnily enough “Lion Band”, headed by famous Taiwanese singer Jam Hsaio (sitting to the far right of the big haired guy). They can third in competition in 2917 with famous Hong Kong singer/actress, Sandy Lam (the lady you said “she’s trying”when she attempted the high note) placing first with Dimash runner up. All the contestants on The I Am Singer show/s are established, well known professionals. The show itself is a first class production with only the best musicians, back up singers, technicians, directors and producers - well worth watching, including other seasons, eg, 2018 when British singer Jessie J won and 2019 when Hua Chenyu won - so many talented people. 🙏🏻🇦🇺

Sí fué un gran momento para Dimash, porque extrañaba al padre, te cuento qué Papá kanat es cantante,y la madre es soprano, y sús abuelos también están artistas, y el abuelo le enseñó a tocar el Dombra. En sú país son musulmanes, pero no como otros países, yo veo diferencia, tienen una sola mujer, viven todos juntos, los abuelos para Dimash son los padres, porque él primogénito lo crían los abuelos,aunque junto a los padres, por eso la abuela de Dimash era que lo llevaba a estudiar música a los 5 años y esperaba afuera, a ella le dolían sús rodillas,pero se quedaba más de dos o tres horas esperándolo, por éso cuando estuvo en Dubai, lo premiaron a Dimash y él llamó a sú abuela paterna, contó ésta historia,y le entregó el premio, es un gran respeto que tienen por los mayores,por los ancestros,por sú cultura qué enseñan en las escuelas, y a tocar el Dombra instrumento nacional, ojalá en todos los países se respetará a nuestro ancestros,nuestro mayores, sería otra cosa el mundo no crees??? Dimash effortlessly took it higher modulating an amazing three key changes of Head voice C6, C#6, D6(stacatto), Eb6. Loved your reaction, Roscoe. This particular extended video was especially heart warming, because it showed how Dimash was surprised by his father and their interaction was simply loving. Dimash invited to participate in this professional competition in China all by himself, not knowing any Chinese and almost no English. He only went with an interpreter to help him get through each day. He was very home sick by this point (several weeks into the show), because he had never been traveling without his family and for this extended period. He was only 22 years old. Just a kid, really. Yes, you are right that his parents and his entire extended family are all very supportive of him. From a very young age, they noticed his extraordinary musical gift, so they nurtured him, encouraged him, and supported him. Yes, his Dad was very proud of him. In another video that showed even longer than this one, it showed Dimash asking his Dad twice, "Did I sing well?" seeking his Dad's approval, and his Dad said yes. He also confessed to his Dad that he just wanted to go home, for being so home sick, and his Dad comforted him and encouraged him to hang in there. They have such a loving relationship. So admirable.

Morning Kathy 🌞 Roscoe in Kazakhstan from ancient times their culture is steeped in music. Fathers would teach their boys to ride horses and sing first. The arts hold a high priority from poetry and philosophy to playing instruments such as the dombra, a two stringed traditional instrument, to singing and dance. The one country where you would never be bullied or laughed at for singing. It's a pity you did not watch the whole video or you would have seen the lovely interaction between Dimash and his Father. The look Dimash gave when he spotted his Dad was because it was a surprise, he was very young and homesick so it was a wonderful surprise for him. One should always watch Dimash videos to the end. Ironically, the guy you said looks like he has a lion's mane is Li Q and the band he was performing with on the show is called "Lion Chorus"! Just a little backstory, this was only night two of the competition so they had been shocked by his performance of S.O.S. and wanted to see what he would do next. The original version on the song, by Vitas, has one key change so people who knew the song expected it. When he did two MORE key changes it was insanity! In fact, his version went over so well that Vitas got jealous and banned him from ever performing the song again. As far as I know there is only one other recording of it. In Kazakhstan he was probably never bullied for his singing. His parents are singing royalty there, for one thing, but it's also not like the U.S. People are very supportive of other people there and especially of the young people and developing their particular talents. That's why there are professional music schools that start at such a young age. they do, however, live in family groups most of the time so this was his first time being away from his family in a foreign country. He was getting depressed and wanted to go home so his father came to surprise and support him. He waited out of sight until the song was done because he didn't want to throw Dimash off. His family is just as amazing as he is, very supportive and humble people.

But you're right, I haven't watched much footage prior to Singer partly because I'm saving them for a personal project. I do know that even his teachers discouraged his falsetto and higher register work because it is not considered acceptable for the male voice in classical work. I like that he fights for his style!

Your comment about the lion's mane is funny because the band he's in is called „The Lions“. Opera2 was the second performance of The Singer competition in 2017 in China. The song is in Russian. A language he also speaks fluently. The original was from the famous Russian singer named Vitas. I think it was very difficult for him at the beginning. You have to imagine, until this competition in China in 2017 he never was alone. Dimash, like many other Kazakhs, has the tradition of living under one roof with the whole family all together. He lives with his grandparents, parents, a sister, a brother an other relatives in the same house. And now he had to go to China alone, didn‘t know the country, didn‘t know the language, didn‘t know the traditions or livestyle in this country and up to that point he spoke (almost) no English, except maybe „Thank you“ and „My name is Dimash“. Only one interpreter came along and that at the age of 22. He was almost a kid to me then (my son is 20 so I can imagine…). And after that performance he saw his dad. So beautiful and emotional. Too bad you didn't see the video to the end. Backstage, he twice asked his father if he sang well. His father's opinion is still incredibly important to him today. He was also very homesick and told him that he would like to go home. BTW the audience is also the jury. During the Opera 2 performance, he flirted with the audience in a way that wasn’t really his habit at the time (fortunately that has changed in the meantime). And afterwards he said that he was really uncomfortable that his father saw him like that🤭. Luckily he didn’t find out until afterwards because I love it when he’s like that on stage🥰. I love this video because he still seemed so innocent. Just a boy and he didn't seem as serious as he sometimes is these days. He still looked carefree. Singer was a competition of Chinese professional singers. Dimash was the only amateur singer, he was the youngest singer, the only non-Chinese singer, and he was only supposed to be there for 2 episodes of the tv show. After the first show, Dimash had so many fans that they decided for him to stay for the whole show which was 4 months. They also had to get him bodyguards. Dimash ended up being in China for 3 years. Dimash’s dad surprised him. Dimash did not know that his dad was in China. In Kazakhstan Dimash would not be mad fun of. That whole country sings. Dimash’s mom is an opera singer. Dimash was classically trained from the age of 5. He was 22 when he was on “Singer”. Dimash came in second place on that show. They invited him back to perform the next year. The Chine loves them some Dimashi. Opera 2 was composed by the Russian singer known as Vitas. He has a high voice when he sings. He told Dimash not to sing that song ever again. Vitas only goes up 2 levels, Dimash does 4! Of course Dimash sings the whole song better than Vitas. Dimash has a better voice. 😊❤️

Because Singer producers didn't get broadcast permission from any of the artists Dimash covered, such as Lionel Richie. They kinda screwed Dimash that way tbh. But it made his international career massive.

Also he came in second because the show had a rule only a Chinese person could win -- the one trying to hit his note at the end. They apologized later and rescinded the rule, but he got like 300 million fans from these shows.
