For anyone interested in reading A Little Life please please PLEASE look up the trigger warnings because there are MANY! It’s definitely not one to recommend unless you’re mentally stable and capable of reading it as it contains everything from sexual abuse to torture and loss so please do your research before you decide to pick it up 🙏🏽🥺😣
@user-qu8zs7vs1x3 жыл бұрын
I so wish booktubers would stop recommending it. I know so many people who tried reading it because of how "cool" it sounds to read it, but were then unable to finish it and had mental health consequences because of it. I find it reckless for people to keep talking about it without saying that it is a book that can be so damaging for most people.
@laurencisneros11443 жыл бұрын
@@user-qu8zs7vs1x I agree! I've seen it making the rounds on Booktube and Booktok and "books that made me cry" or "sad books to recommend" and people here raving about how sad it made them but I feel it's not enough emphasis. This book is very very heavy and triggering and I really wish people would consider that more when talking about this book. All they say is that it's sad but they don't go into TW or that it's not a book to be lightly recommending. Like at least mention it's not for those who struggle mentally because it can really send someone off the deep end.

I will never stop screeching about how amazing Black Sun was to me. That book snatched my wig off in the middle of the street during rush hour traffic and I couldn’t even be mad. And honestly, Rebecca Roanhorse can just have the wig. She deserves it. I’m hoping to read most of these as well as A Long Way to a Small Angry Planet by Becky Chambers, Jade Fire Gold by June CL Tan, The Love Songs of W.E.B. Du Bois by Honorée Jeffers, The Rage of Dragons by Evan Winter, The Priory of the Orange Tree by Samantha Shannon, and Monday’s Not Coming by Tiffany D Jackson.

Omg what if she sees this and does an interview with a random wig all askew on her head for book 2 and says “oh… this? I got it from someone in traffic. She said I could keep it”. Totally random daydream I just had. Thought I’d share. Lol!

It’s so much better later in the book. Please continue because I think you’ll love it. The second book is also a lot better and it’s such a page turner. I’m reading the third book now, so epic!! I love the culture and the world so much I don’t want it to end.

Jade War is on my physical tbr as well - hopefully I can get to it soon! She Who Became the Sun is another one I would really like to get to this year. I did like To Sleep In A Sea of Stars but it wasn’t my favourite. There were some choices made that felt a bit redundant and others that I flat out did not like. The ending is divisive with some people liking it and some people not (I didn’t quite like it). Overall it was a good book and worth the read but didn’t live up to my expectations of where I wanted it to be.

I can’t wait to read Black Sun! I put it in my TBR purely for that gorgeous cover, and now I’m even more excited to read it! I really loved To Sleep in a Sea of Stars. It took me 5 months, with a few breaks, but I never got confused when I picked it back up. Even though it’s a first in the series, I’m fine leaving it after this book and pretending the story finished there. A for Aunties is also on my physical TBR and I’m psyched to read it in Feb. I have read the “dial A for aunties”. I have to say, I don’t normally read romance and I think this is the third romance book I read. It was really enjoyable and not heavy on romance. Green Bone saga was really good! My physical TBR priorities are finishing three series I have started but not finished, namely, Valdemar Chronicles and Shadowhunter Chronicles, and the Trials of Apollo. I also have a couple nonfiction books on Japan I want to read, and hopefully read the Raven Cycle, Dreamers, and Ember in the Ashes. I DNFed the Inheritance Cycle after book two. I hated Paolini's portrayal of the elves, and Eragon (the character) drove me nuts lol. I love elves and dragons, and I enjoyed the first book, but the second one turned me off.

Dial A for aunties, A little life & Normal people are on my "22 for 2022" list too! I also felt this challenge to be pretty realistic for me, like you said, it's about 2 books per month. It might also be a good motivation to make my reading list a bit more diverse, and I hope it'll prevent reading slumps as this is giving me a goal to work towards. I've read Instructions for Dancing and The anthropocene reviewed from your list, and I genuinely hope you will like The anthropocene reviewed better than I did. I just couldn't get into it, I liked some chapters, but the overall style just didn't fit me. I loved Instructions for Dancing though, it was such a sweet book! A Little Life really was an unique read, it literally drained my energy but I’m really glad that I read it. It definitely is a heavy read so really take your time to read it! I really don’t know how to describe it but it was like watching a Timelapse of a strangers life but so intense especially because it is totally realistic and just imagining that there are people out there, that probably experienced that same tragedy in life just makes it so much more heartbreaking. I was one of the first in line for Paolini’s new book...and it sat on my shelf for a year. I was so afraid it would be not as great as I hoped, or wouldn’t have the profound effect the “Inheritance Cycle” had for me. It was GREAT! He really did his research, literally picking scientists minds for almost nine years just for this book. I really got a good grasp of the story within the first forty pages, given it has 800-ish, that’s not bad! It has a few flaws but really, it is detailed, and even includes a full scale war. He really puts the image of galaxy travel into view, and I appreciated it. Hope you enjoy!!
