What some people don’t realise about VAR, is that the technology is absolutely not the issue. The technology works if the right people use it and the right rules are in place that officials apply to VAR. There needs to be changes made to it, removing VAR would do nothing, there would still be as many if not more incorrect decisions.

I was about to give these mugs a piece of my mind I came across this comment....100% agree. I think VAR is one of the best things that have came to football in recent years. People don't like it because they can't get away with a cheeky goal anymore. Back in the day, if the ball ended up in the back of the net...almost always, the goal would stand unless somehow someway, a ref was in the vicinity and clearly saw that the goal only went in because of a hand ball for example....or if the linesman was gutsy enough to raise the flag even if he doesn't feel 100% accurate on the call and he'll hear it from the fans afterwords. VAR provides that angle where nobody else could see on the pitch. It's whether or not the person USING VAR is capable of pointing out the mistakes the correct way.
@Tiger516funny2 жыл бұрын
My honest conclusion on all of them is that VAR is operated by a bunch of referees who let their personal preference get in the way of judgement. Another thing I've found increasingly frustrating (they've also pointed this out on MOTD) is how the VAR officials make these decisions and claim they couldn't find a suitable angle when the pundits and ex players can find one in a matter of seconds.

I agree with pretty much all but Thogden you're wrong about the last Harry Kane one, if Robertson doesn't jump and has his leg firmly on the ground, that tackle/foul could be a career ending one. The force that he goes in and with studs up Kane could've easily done some bad damage.

Lost some respect there for Thogden at the end, saying Kane's challenge on Robertson wasn't a red. Had Robbo not jumped up, he would have broken his leg. Whether that touches Robertson or not, the intention is clearly there from Kane, and he shows no regard for his opponent. While Robertson's red card later on in the same game, while correct, was nowhere near as bad as Kane's challenge, and further proves the bias towards him. As Thogdad rightly said, had it been any other player than the England captain, it would have been a red. Kane is continually protected by the English referees and the media, who allow him to get away with stuff others are hounded for. Whether that be a challenge, committing a foul, or seeking the contact for a penalty. Kane is a dirty player! End of.

Me and my dad’s thoughts on all VAR controversial decisions: 1. I did see handball, not sure if Hudson Odoi/Mount is offside, but assuming if neither of them are offside, it should be a penalty. My dad agreed, claiming that it wasn’t offside. 2. Ouch. I feel like at least a yellow card should be given but I think it’s a straight red card. My dad thinks it’s a yellow card. 3. We watched that game on tv and both of us yelled that it’s a penalty kick. We still think it’s a penalty today. 4. I think this should be an Instant Red Card. My dad agreed. 5. That’s the game when me and dad argued for a while. I said that should be a clear penalty and not a controversial one, while my dad said that’s not even close to a penalty kick. He thinks there’s nothing wrong and the game should continue as normal without a penalty. 6. Me and my dad both think the penalty kick should be retaken. 7. I think the refs are correct. Straight red. A heavy slap in the face to block vision and interrupt the player to confuse him. My dad thinks it’s a hard call, but he told me that he thinks it’s just a yellow card and not a red card. 8. His hand was offside……and he’s part of the attack since he scored it. So yeah, offside My dad thinks that as well. 9.1. Pulling shirt? Well, hands down, no doubt, Penalty 100%. My dad agreed. 9.2. Another one where me and dad argued about it. We watched the game. I yelled there’s nothing wrong but my dad yells stone wall penalty kick, claiming that Ederson hit Øddegard before the ball. I tried to slow-mo the video and I still think that’s not a penalty. 10. Hmm, I think it depends on if the refs are lenient. I think the yellow was based on the handball, and when he tackled he missed Robertson completely so that’s a yellow for handball in my opinion. My dad thinks the challenge was dangerous and thinks that’s a straight red. If you think some of our opinions are wrong, feel free to explain it out. Just don’t be toxic.

Encroachment doesn't have any effect if the player scores direct from the pen, they only enforce a retake if a rebound is scored by the encroacher. Why would you punish a violation of the rule if that violation doesn't have anything to do with the outcome. If a player is flagged offside and then commits a yellow-card foul, his foul won't have any effect on the game cuz the play will later resume from the earlier offside call, so the ref won't book him or give the subsequent foul.

Nothing can beat The Pre VAR celebrations, which I have been part of for 60 years now , since my first game when, my team, Millwall beat Hull City 5/1 on 3/September,1962 Soon afterwards we embarked on a league breaking run of 59 unbeaten home games and I can just imagine with that intense, fervent, passionate atmosphere Millwall coming back from 0/2 just b4 we equalled the record, as we did, and the place going crazy and VAR disallowing an awarded goal and what about when you wait for all game/week for that crucial goal and the ecstasy and relief at the late winner only for some faceless device to inform you ages later that it doesn't count. I will let YOU tell the natives .lol

It's not the VAR's fault it's the people using it wrong's fault

The first one with the Brighton defender it hits his back foot and deflects to his hand which was level or even further forward than his front foot. The reason he is leaning over is because he was running and the ball was played behind him and he knew he had to stop the ball and when stop running and stretch out you back leg you lose balance and full forward

City vs Southampton is probably one of if not the most infuriating game, as a City supporter for me. The saints should’ve been down to 10 maybe even 9 players, and it felt like everything was goin the saints way. Southampton were 100% the better team in the first half, but the many small and big refereeing mistakes in the second half made me lose it. For me there should’ve been awarded two red cards to Southampton. Bednarek on Grealish and ofc Armstrong on Laporte. Both with the studs up, and could injure the players. I think there should be imported new and improved rules for how the VAR is used. It’s not the technology but the people that uses it.

Universe course correcting itself after the penalty Southampton should've had in the reverse fixture at the Etihad earlier in the season.

This is from a germans point of view, so Im used to Bundesliga refs, so you might feel that im a bit off in judging some of these cases 1. Obviously pen 2. OBVIOUSLY red. From behind, ball is nowhere near, strong contact. Even if its a genuine mistake and hes genuinely just trying to boot the ball, that cant be allowed 3. Ambiguous, but I would say pen 4. It cant be more obviously a red. Above the knee with the open sole, thats always a red in the Bundesliga 5. No pen, I agree Jota is fishing for it here 6. This happens all the time and personally I dont think it has to be enforced when it made no impact. Hes in the box, so I understand if ppl think the pen should be taken again, but think about what it would do to the game if we start getting out the measuring sticks on every pen, it would completely ruin the game flow 7. Hard to tell, I would give a yellow, but I can see the decision for a red card as well 8. I think the offside rule is already a problem when ppl get way too precise with it. Its really hard to tell whether hes on or off, personally I think hes on. Even if hes just barely offside, I find it hard to disallow goals like these, because theres no way anyone could possibly argue that the striker has made a mistake by being off by an inch. Hes made the right run at the right time. Whether hes an inch off or on, I think this is close enough, we can say this was just good play, fair goal. 9. Both decisions correct. First one hes pulling the shirt, thats a pen. Second one is more difficult to tell, but i think the keeper is playing the ball first before hitting the player, so no pen. 10. Open sole, didnt play the ball, clear contact with the player, clear red. Cant believe he got away with that

harry kane should of got a red

That first one, it’s just the angle that shows it hitting his hand 🙄 VAR didn’t check as the other angles show it was no where near! As quite a few of these aren’t even wrong

VAR should be like TMO in rugby. If the ref isn’t 100% sure on a decision he’s made then he looks up at the big stadium screen (not a small monitor that he has to run to). This means it’s the ref making the decision for himself after rewatching it and not someone telling him what to do down a mic

Idk understand how a foul for one team will be given as a yellow but for another team it will be nothing or a red

I hate it when people say it's not a foul because the player fouled has lost control of the ball. That has nothing to do with it, a foul is foul whether they have the ball or not

As a Watford Fan, and i saw that on Match of the Day and that is where VAR is needed to look at that decision. We had one similar in our game against Man United where Feminia encroached and VAR looked at it. So VAR should of looked at it

Tbf the veltman one - thogden is spot on when it comes down to how Veltman makes it look like he's stumbling or losing his balance. It's very clever defending from Veltman but imo it should have still been a penalty
