great tutorial felix, i'm loving this channel! another thing i've been trying recently to get 'slop' is the Voice Component Modeling technique, which is just a fancy way of saying: apply LFOs additionally to osc levels, ADSR times, filter freq/res, etc. Works best with rand sample and hold, per-voice, unsynced LFOs...eats up a mod matrix pretty quick, but def gave my Peak a more convincing vintage vibe

No, VCM wants to get you away from using LFOs everywhere and instead simulate different voices with various static offsets being triggered.

Oh man I came to this video for some cool Rev2 stuff and you have the same setup that I do. The Monologue was my first Synth and I've just recently bought the Rev2. Did not expect that. I liked the ideas you have here. Really great. I was having trouble getting this kind of Vangelis sound out of the synths I use.

Lovely video. I have the prophet rev 2 but the one with the keys. I’m curious however how you are using the shallow water pedal with it. Isn’t it a mono pedal? How are you running it? I would love to possibly buy the pedal and incorporate it in my setup

Can you please tell me how you can switch between synthesizers I find in order to immediately play, for example, on korg monologue, and then switch to Prophet rev2 8? How it's done? Thank you Or how to play them both plugged only with midi cable? Thank you
@ThomannSynthesizers3 жыл бұрын
Just to be clear: In this video you didn‘t hear a single sound produced by the Korg Monologue. It was just used to create the midi notes that the Prophet is playing. Regarding the second part of your question: If you want to connect multiple synths via midi to a single port (sequencer/computer/etc.) you can use a midi through box like the ‚MIDI Solutions Quadra Thru“ giving you 4 (so 3 additional) Thru Outputs. You can route the Midi channels on the synths & sequencer. A midi cable is capable of transferring 16 midi channels at once. Best, Felix

I'm surprised you didn't use the distortion, or the delay (etc) that's available in the effects section of the REV2?
@ThomannSynthesizers3 жыл бұрын
I tried them out but never got any satisfying results with either of them. Replika XT seemed like the much better solution in this case.

Felix, I can't decide between this and the hydra synth. It will be my main synth, I've got an Octatrack and Digitakt and need something that does a lot of sounds. I've got a Keystep 37 and play without PC. Can you help?
@alexyoungbased3 жыл бұрын
I’ve got the same setup, with a rev2. It’s super sweet. Rev2 covers all bases pretty much.
@ThomannSynthesizers3 жыл бұрын
I personally didn‘t test out the hydra synth but as I said in the video, the Prophet is my favorite Polysynth atm so I‘d say you can‘t go wrong with that. Also if you are into CS80 style vintage vibes, the Rev2 allows for „vintage voice modelling“ through its gated sequencer, detuning every voice individually a slight bit for a more organic sound. Unfortunately I only found out about that after the video. A channel called „Creative Spiral“ has a great tutorial about how to do it on the Rev2. Best, Felix

Hey! I discovered that the charming noise generated by the dist pedal, can be taken out by sidechaining the electricity only of the dist pedal with another pedal so they can distribute the mA entering to a single pedal. *I think the reason of the "charming noise" comes from having too much mA of an eliminator coming to a analog pedal, when the analog pedals only need around 30mA, when the eliminators have 250mA or smtn around that.
@d3tuned378 Жыл бұрын
Did I hear that correctly? This synth has the equivalent of an "LFO start position / start position error" knob? Also is LFO phase the same thing as LFO start position?
@Redarmywhorah3 жыл бұрын
He called the rev2 an entry-level synth...idk bout that one man
@ThomannSynthesizers3 жыл бұрын
To be fair, I called it „dave smiths entry level poly synth“ because its their „budget“ option in that category. But sure, neither Dave Smith Synths nor Polysynths are usually entry level synths per se :D

Nice if you have 3 LFOs...
@ThomannSynthesizers3 жыл бұрын
The main idea of this video isn‘t dependent on wether you have 3 LFO‘s. It‘s about the approach of creating imperfection. Also as I said in the video, you can use the izotope vinyl plugin for subtle pitch modulation and this one is completely free. Best, Felix

I guess the gras is always greener on the other side :D In case you didn‘t know about the Prophet 6 Software Update from some months ago I recommend you to check out a video by Jamiroquai‘s Matt Johnson called „Sequential Prophet 6 with Vintage Mode, twice the Synth it was?“ Almost made me sell my Rev 2 when I saw that, but I managed to find a workaround using the gated sequencer. Best, Felix :)
