Y’all are mistaking PHONETICS with PHONICS. Phonics is what we learned to use how to read in second grade. PHONETICS is the spelling showing how to pronounce each syllable in a word.

What happened here? Did she lose a bet?! This woman is a native English Speaker. She pronounced the name of her own school wrong. Only in America can you become a college professor without learning to read. My mother read the names at her university for years. She spent a week ahead of time learning the names specifically so this would not happen. Even if you don't have time to prepare, just sound it out! Tragic.

She was literally to inept to problem solve the basic principle of referring to the phonetic help section when coming across a name that was less obvious than molly... honestly, how does someone gain employment at a university when they have a complete inability to think even slightly laterally??? Surely after mispronouncing the first name, jeez even the second, the fact they sounded soooooo frikin unlike any name ever youd stop to take stock of what was going on

Unless things have changed, usually it’s the graduate themselves who write the phonetic way of saying it. How could so many graduates write the phonetic pronunciation of their own name so unrecognizable? And Thomas is literally in the name of the school.
