THOMAS KEYES: ‘Making the Book of Kells’
Thomas Keyes is an insular illuminator and parchment-maker based in
Cromarty on the Black Isle. Thomas’ talk will include a look at the distinctive
features in the parchment of the Book of Kells and how it relates to the
archaeology of the monastic site of Portmahomack, on the Tarbat Peninsula
in Easter Ross, Scotland, as well as a brief explanation of the pigments
involved and the processes required to make them.

The Saint Patrick Centre is delighted to be hosting the 2nd International Day of Celtic Art Conference from 8-11th June 2023. 16 speakers who are both artists and scholars in a variety of media from visual design and textile to metalwork, woodwork and ceramics will be coming to Downpatrick from destinations around the world including the USA, Canada, Scotland, Isle of Man and Ireland. The Conference will include exhibitions of Celtic Art, technical demonstrations and workshops as well as a Conference Dinner/Show and excursion.
