I really appreciate Chris taking the time to make sure that the form (even the solo's) was tight. As musicians, we hear and feel things differently, but it's important for bandmates to know what the other is hearing and feeling to communicate the music to the listeners well. We can all learn a lot from this clip.

I'd like to see Pridgen work with Christian Scott or another jazz musician again. I felt that Pridgen's in pocket yet wild gospel kinda style combined with Scott's compositions made the music more driving and exciting. The drumming really increased the head nod factor.

Curious as to how this video was recorded. Killer quality considering there isn't a mic in sight. I am assuming it is from the camera, what with the cymbals muffling at 2:27 and all. I'd love to know how it was captured.

Fuck people saying, "dude, can you just groove"?! He is unique in his Style! People, what part of "non academical" style dont understand!? That's the essence of music, be yourself with the music. So neither itsn't an easy thing what Pridgen tries to playing over being himself with the music. If the other musicians tries to limit or change his way of playing, that's not music, that would be shit

I can identify some elements in the melody (3:45) from the piece "Kiel" from the "Rewind That" album. This is the last song. But really - "Rewind That" is a must have!
@jesselondon7214 жыл бұрын
@ozzaman yeah bro TP twisted him and no matter who he MDs for he cannot stick it to Pridgen during the solo. I personally think its bad form...but then again they are at a school, and this is them practicing / perfecting their art - we're very lucky to see such great footage...and I'm pretty sure at the gig the gat player is counting 32nd notes in his head hard out - and nervous as shit...cause if anyone can lose you in a solo its Pridgen.

He put out two albums before Rewind That. In 2002 titled Christian Scott and in 2004 named Two of a Kind with Donald Harrison. This cut is from one of those joints. One of those albums was boxed out by major labels cause he was outselling other trumpet players just by him and his brother shipping them to stores themselves while he was still in Berkeley.
