Thomas The Tank Collection 14 Light Up Thomas Vs Thomas RC Chuggington Toy Trains

Thomas The Tank toy trains are amazing to collect. Thomas & Friends have made a huge variety of the little blue No1 engine that never seems to end. In this Thomas collecting episode we will compare two Thomas The Tank torches, one my Mattel and the other by Little Tikes. Classic Thomas And Friends TV plug N play video game and look at some Stampy inspired gameplay. TOMY Thomas are always a delight to look over and I have two more pull along Thomas The Tank with Annie & Clearable. Then there is a My Busy Books Thomas and Friends character collection. There are 12 Thomas characters in a book, Thomas, Percy, Gordon, Henry, Edward, Toby, Mavis and more are represented. These small fairly well detailed trains are some of the cheapest Thomas toys on the market. My Busy Books are a perfect way to litmus test a toy franchise before getting more involved. I also show the My Little Pony Busy Book which has a great selection of MLP characters. The nwe look at a remote control Chuggington Wilson. These RC Chuggers are large and very well detailed. Even though Wilson is missing the RC I can use my son's Koko's remote control to control Wilson. Chuggington always presented some very nice versions of their TV series train show characters in toy form. I show the RC Thomas from the same era and then the one after that. Seems Thomas has been stripped back and is missing some very important Thomas The Tank details. Then there is a sneak peek at whats next in the collecting Thomas videos via a classic Thomas & Friends TOMY train set. You will also see an amazing knock off Thomas set that imitates the classic TOMY blue track era of Thomas toys.

"Heh, 'Lazy wheel syndrome' seems to be very common with old Tomy models. I've seen Thomas, Percy, Toby, Duck, Stepney, Harvey, Mavis and Diesel with that problem. The drive gear cracks so the gear doesn't power the axle.

Lots of ranting, but certainly called for... I actually like the face better on the newer light, but the actual functions of the earlier one make more sense to me. Can't wait to see that TOMY set... it was on my wishlist as a child, but I wasn't allowed much TOMY as apparently my parents didn't approve of all the plastic... To be honest, I like a few thing Mattel is doing with the Thomas Wooden railway range, like adding neck holders to Gordon and Henry's smoke boxes, but I feel like Mattel is getting cheep and replacing more wood with plastic and not painting on colors E.G. Making belle's wheel's blue instead of blue and red, not painting the neck holders on Gordon and henry, OBVIOSLY NOT adding the white footplates to Thomas and his fiends and not adding the grey strips to the road side of the track. Honestly, how hard would it be to do those things!?!? Maybe Mattel DOESN'T deserve to make Thomas toys. I hate what they've done with the Trackmaster and T&P ranges, and god only knows what going to happen to the TWR and Mini ranges! Now I like the introduction of the mini range, but the lack of rolling stack and, again, the missing paint on the footplates and neck holders is all that's missing! Honestly, how hard/expensive would it be to do those things!?!?

WoodenBoy BearLover Now I'm starting to look over the Disney cars toys that Mattel make and I see amazing attention to detail and cars toys that look identical to whats seen in the film. Surely this shows us Mattel is not the problem here. Someone else is saying yay to these abstract and wrong Thomas designs we see as toys. But the argument here is does a 3 year old child cars?, do they know that Thomas is missing wheels, whistle and important details? Only a mature Thomas fan can see the injustice of whats going on. I never hear a Disney Cars fan cry that Lightning McQueen is lacking details or stunning variety. I think this bunny hole needs further investigation ;)

It's a real shame there has never been a true thomas toy that represents the characters from the show exactly. The ERTL and Bandai Tec toys are the only ones I can really think of that looked similar to the characters, and even then, they were still slightly off. I have not purchased Mattel Thomas toys for several years due to the poor detail and deformed look of the current toys. It really is a shame Mattel really only care about saving more money on their end instead of producing a quality detailed product.

TomixNscale89 Ah yes I agree with aa you say, maybe the most stunning Thomas's I have seen are the Lionel O gauge and Bachmann trains, but you could not class these as toys. The TOMICA Thomas's (small Japanese models) are pretty nice but lack the size to be eye openers. Question here is if Mattel is the problem how come they make amazing Disney Cars Lightning McQueens that ooze the correct detail and toy mojo while Thomas is left looking like the poor sister. I don't think this is directly a Mattel problem, someone else must be signing off on all these toy designs that cut so many detail corners on the toys. I think one detail that needs to be restored is the white running board, that simple change will lift any Thomas toy to the next level. It's a very important detail thats rarely ever seen today.

Hey Leo, I realise the Tomica Talk and Action Set has already been answered to a degree but I figured adding my two cents couldn't hurt. It was in the shops for a period of time in the late 90's, back when the "Tomica World" realistic/generic trains were still the main toy line, and the Thomas and Friends characters were almost like a gimmick to help promote "Tomica World". This set began the shift by Tomy away from "Tomica World" and using it's motor road and rail track system as the platform for what would become the Tomy Thomas franchise that most people have come to know today. It can even be seen as the direct ancestor of the modern Trackmaster series and the start of a long evolution of this battery operated toy line that now has "Trackmaster 2" as you call it (a name I like actually) as the latest incarnation.

Hi Leo! Nice to see your collection always expanding! I was wondering: you often talk about how Thomas items are sometimes too expensive on eBay and what not. But do you use such websites to complete your collection? It seems you mostly buy what you stumble upon in supermarkets, or what comes from "the Lady down the road", but I think you wont find every existing Thomas in second hand shops... Another question: do you also buy the more "adult-oriented" thomas models? I know you own the Bachmann and Hornby models, but I never heard you mention the Märklin or the Tomix (N scale) ones.

Awesome video! When I was little I saw those Little Tikes Thomas Flashlights in my local store and now I really wish I bought one. I have to agree with you that if Mattel doesn't shape up soon, they should be kicked out of the Thomas franchise. It's funny how if a Thomas toy doesn't work, it doesn't have a life. Z.M PRODUCTIONS The part I do not understand is how come Mattel can make amazing Disney Cars / Planes toys which look just like the film character , yet Thomas is often rendered as a distorted low detail model. I have a hunch Mattel is not the problem here, someone is signing off on these toy designs outside of Mattel. Because of my ever expanding collection I can really see the impact of the Mattel era on the toys. Possibly the biggest problem is they are only toys, and in reality no one cares if they are not perfect to look at.

Chard Coal What surprises me is rarely do I ever see toys where the batteries are removed. I used to say nothing about this, I think it's time to reveal the very dirty side of collecting battery powered toys. Has me wondering if cheap batteries leak more then the very expensive brands.

With the cheaper batteries, it all depends on if they're made like the ones you pulled out of the transparent faced Thomas. Thin not thick like the covered brand. I stay away from the thinner ones. I've replaced too many of $26.79 flashlight because of those. Thats when I was told that you should always take the batteries out after use. Cheep or not. Expensive batteries will eventually leak but not as fast as the thinner cheap ones.
