How I avoid brush strokes: basically making the layer of paint as THIN as possible by spreading it out as much as I can. One brush load, I spread that brush load of paint as much as I can before the paint can't go any further and keep doing that till it looks thin enough. I then repeat it as often as I need to get a complete coat. Another method I've used is putting some paint in some sponges for makeup and then just dabbing the model until no more paint comes out then letting it dry before repeating. Repeat about 5-6 times, and the coat is generally thick enough to look smooth and consistent. The thin paint layers don't take long to dry since the layer of paint is so thin, but a tiny fan helps speed up the drying time.
@JojoCat20082 жыл бұрын
I follow how @Trackside Studios 06. Does it: Many thin coats are better than few thick coats. - its true as you're adding in layers to make it have its color. I brush in One Direction. You only need 4-8 Coats if you're brush painting, 4 as a minimum if you have an undercoat.

That looks so cool! You know, I sometimes make my own HO models out of scratch with only using: a hot glue gun (to stick the pieces together) some HO bogies ( for the wheels) and finally, some cardboard (most of my custom HO trains I’ve made are mostly made out of cardboard. Some of them are just old engine parts I have lying about.)

Modeling making isn't as easy as some may it out to be sometimes, but you can only improve moving forward. Horace looks good for what he is so far.

Personally man at a first attendant of modeling this isn't really bad I mean it's better than what I can make as I'm not really a modeler. Then again hopefully if you try this again hopefully it will work out better the second time.

Honestly, you didn’t do that bad of a job. I think that you made a pretty good model. It’s not in that bad of a condition. Some glue and new couplings will likely do the trick.

He's very cute! You're being very hard on yourself. Yeah OO9 modelling can be an absolute nightmare. Making Sir Handel and Duncan were very tedious processes but as long as you have a positive outlook everything will turn out alright. A few tips I could give you for this; paint pens are a lifesaver. If you wanna do the safety valves and chimney caps in gold, definitely get a gold paint pen. Much easier to do than hand paint it in yellow. For name and number plates, etched is the way to go. Narrow planet let's you customize name and number plates to your liking. It takes about 8 weeks to develop and then 1 or 2 weeks to ship to you but they look so much more professional than transfers. Also, spray painting, imo, is easier than air brushing. You could spray the whole engine in red and then hand brush the black parts, or air brush them if you really think that would be easier. Other than that he's a very adorable engine, and I might get one for myself! Sorry to hear about the tramskirts breaking but I hope you can get him fixed soon!

I used the same KATO chassis under my Kerr Stuart Skylark side tank, & the couplings kinda stopped being attached before the model was even painted. Also the body got into a bit of an accident (overzealous filing pre-painting) and ended up losing the rear buffer beam & bunker. Painting did cover that, though, once I'd glued the whole back together again. I brush-painted mine, first in an ugly olive green colour, & the brush kept losing bristles which was a pain, and brush strokes ruled the day. In the end I gave it up as a bad job, and switched to a nicer Red Oxide paint, which I had handy, though with the same crappy brush. However, because I used Pheonix Precision Paint that time, which I swear is magical, I managed to avoid brush strokes. I call the little engine all manner of names, and even made up six small wagon kits to go with her. No layout yet, just a length of track. Because as mentioned the original couplings went up the spout, I gave her chain couplings nicked from an OO model, and even buffers. The wagons have N-scale chains on them, which are bit clogged with paint, and also they don't have hooks so they're kind of stuck as two unconnected rakes of three.

Tip one of Model painting. Thin your paints. Air brushes need a milk like consistency and brush painting needs something a bit thicker. But not too thick as it will leave brush strokes.

Hi thomas1edward2herny3, I know this video is too years old and i’m pretty late to it but I advise that you used this paint called Apple barrel matte. Yes I know the paint don’t have a glossy or reflective finish, and it’s a matte color but it’s so smooth and easy to paint and clear if you make any mistakes. I also advised to beware of yellow because it is a bitch to work with. Yes white is the same but it’s not as bad as the yellow paint (for me).
