Hi Thomas, it has been a few years since you posted this video. Many of the Whey Protein powder companies ON and Dymatize ect are adding Sucralose to their Protein Powder. I have a Ketogenic Smoothie made from scratch, for breakfast each morning which I add Whey Protein too. I have been reading labels and the there is not maltodextrin mentioned before or after the "Sucralose" on the labels. Would this be a "NO GO" for keto? I am not a fan of Splenda because it is so ridiculously sweet... Please help me out if you can thank you!

Thomas, thank you for the disambiguation around sucralose! It's complicated since it is usually available in packets with maltodextrin, but pure liquid sucralose, without the binders, doesn't trigger an insulin response. Yeah, it's not great for the gut biome, but if you use it sparingly, it's totally fine on keto.

Good for you!! While I didn't have diabetes for 12 years, I did have it for one year. Fully expected, as I had been 150 pounds overweight for like 25 years. Also had high blood pressure and high cholesterol--the triple crown of issues leading to heart disease and death! Anyway, after only ONE WEEK on keto, my blood sugars were down to normal, unmedicated. I have dropped 10 pounds a month without changing my ultra-sedentary lifestyle the least little bit. I am NEVER hungry. In fact, I sometimes forget to eat--exact opposite of my foodaholic eating habits before. But trust me, I do eat plenty! Interesting side benefits: My awful reflux/heartburn just stopped on DAY ONE--so not a benefit of weight loss, but a benefit of the diet. Also, no more gas. Seriously. Not to be too blunt, but I don't think I've passed wind even once since starting keto. Big change there. Also, no abdominal discomfort at all or irregularity--also a big change from my lifelong status. After 4 months, my blood pressure is back into normal range, so no more BP meds for me! Cholesterol panel is awesome too, with my ratio (big heart disease indicator) in the "best" category. Keto is a miracle, pure and simple.

Thomas, as always, this was such an informative video and I thank you for putting in all the hard work in producing it. The only thing I would add is that, since many overweight and formerly overweight people find sweet foods addictive, I would recommend those people to avoid all sweeteners - even those that don't provoke an insulin/blood sugar response. After all, the overweight or formerly overweight person has to be honest with themselves and ask the question: "If I could eat sweet foods in moderation, would I have ever gotten overweight in the first place?" The truth is that for many overweight or formerly overweight people, sweeteners of any kind trigger a compulsive behavior that engenders over consumption of not only other sweet foods, but of other high carb foods in general. For people with that addictive predisposition - and I am one of those people - the only solution is complete abstinence from all sweet foods or sweet additives, regardless of whether they knock you out of ketosis.

Ship Creek I do not have a strong addiction to sugary tastes, almost the opposite, they taste oddly bitter to me sometimes. (Wacky taste buds) BUT that said, *some* sweet tastes can get so yummy to me I find myself overindulging in my keto fat bombs. I hate that feeling of being controlled by my taste buds. I will change gears and almost force myself ( not that it is hard to do btw) to enjoy a baker's chocolate treat (unsweetened, with some pink salt on it). Removes that sugar (even a sugar substitute) desire. A salty fatty steak will do it too. I've read that craving sugar actually means your body is craving protein. Whether that is accurate or not, if I ever feel hunger, which is rare on keto for me, I will know that it's breakfast time and immediately have some sardines or a burger, LOL😃

The studies on artificial sweeteners generally not found much blood sugar impact even in diabetics. In theory, if your insulin spike without the sugar that might cause your blood sugar to get dangerously low but that doesn’t seem to happen.

Anecdotally I’ve been using allulose in my homemade keto ice cream. I’m not true keto, I do IF, with respect to keto. But weekends are my free feeding window, and I use dirty keto as my basis. I’ve been making keto ice cream, 4 cups heavy cream, 2 cups coconut cream, 2 cups whole milk, 3 tablespoons unsalted butter, 1 cup allulose, and a dash of salt. It makes a great tasting ice cream. It mixes up well, comes out rich and smooth. It has not effected my weight loss. Typically I make a cup to a cup and a half of the base, at a time, in my ice cream maker. That’s a pretty huge serving. But it takes care of the need for something sweet, and has nearly no insulin response. Just the little sugars from the coconut and milk. I do not like all cream ice cream. It’s too much like butter.
@Jedi_Mistress3 жыл бұрын
@@trbizwiz1 Try swapping unsweetened coconut milk (one brand--I can't remember which one right now--doesn't taste very coconut-y at all, if you want to make a flavor other than coconut) and a tiny bit of extra sweetner to make up for the coconut milk not being as sweet as the sugar-containing cow's milk.
@trbizwiz13 жыл бұрын
@@Jedi_Mistress I’ve made it with coconut cream in place of cows milk, with pretty good results. Though unsweetened coconut cream does contain sugars. It was close to the milk sugars in whole milk. It gives a temporary sweet taste to the taste buds and then is not absorbed in the body at all. You just pee it out - this is why it was no calories, does NOT affect insulin or blood or blood sugars and is what is recommended for diabetics. Please don’t listen to this guy - it isn’t even strong enough to affect your gut biome at all - your gut biome doesn’t recognize Sucralose as food or anything really. @Keri Manuel That would depend on what you're trying to make. If I were using it to make a glaze or something like that, I would add hot water slowly to my monk fruit powdered sweetener until it was the right consistency & the powder was dissolved & use that. I would subtract the amount of water I used to get that consistency from the other liquids in my recipe if it was a substantial amount. A teaspoon or two isn't going to disrupt most recipes but it depends on what you're trying to make. It's going to add a different flavor profile so you might want to play around with it & see what suits you. 😊

@@alaia-awakened Agriculture is destroying the planet. It is very frustrating how much misinformation there is on this topic. Grazing can actually sequester far more carbon than forests at a much, much faster rate. If we grazed animals on a large enough scale, we could actually mitigate all human emissions. Growing plants can not do this. Plant agriculture uses massive amounts of fossil fuels and unlike grazing cattle, it doesn't mitigate its own emissions. The soil microbiome is killed with chemicals and that dead soil is lost rapidly, causing complete land infertility and desertification. Grazing animals is the fastest way to replenish these lands, bring the microbes back, give nutrients back, rehydrate, break up impaction, and build soil faster than any other process. It would take nature decades to build the amount of soil made in a couple of yrs of Grazing.

I thought that Aspartame has almost the same insulin response as sugar! Dr. Berg said so...
@peterchopelas89075 жыл бұрын
Aspartame is made of natural and essential amino acids, it has no way of affecting your insulin system, IOW is is a protein, not a carb. it is also one of the most tested sweeteners on the market and is considered safe. the concern is that there may be some unknown long term harm because the amino acid chains when combined get chemically altered when they are "cooked" together to form it. The brain triggering is something different that any sweetener, natural or artificial can trigger in some people, and why all sweeteners should be used minimally. Confusiion about sweeteners is promoted by the sugar industry, it puts out a lot of fake news, pseudo-science and spreads propaganda about the harm of "artificial" sweeteners, it has everyone scared and bewildered, as if eating sugar is a healthy alternative. the sugar industry has lost billions in sales because of all the bad news about sugar coming out in recent years, so they combat it with lies, and I hate their lies. It is simply best and safest to wean yourself off of all forms of sweeteners.
