@richardoswald43013 жыл бұрын
Just thought I'd add a couple thoughts on higher quality meat discussion, from my own experience. I eat so much less cheap processed food as a ketovore and as many have experienced my problem is being able to eat enough nutrient dense food as I typically follow a 20/4 eating window. Not dogmatic about this, just don't have the cravings or appetite and enjoy the feeling of not being stuffed with food 24 hours a day. That being said I agree with Thomas that you can eat less and actually eat higher quality for not much difference in the budget, for me anyways. For the budget conscious the big Costco/Sams Clubs, etc. sell grass fed and finished ground beef in 4# packages in my market anyway, wrapped and frozen in 1# individual packages and it is not that much more than at my local butcher, who does deal in higher quality meats, though not necessarily grass fed and finished. Also if you can locate a local producer, small farm like I have outside of the suburbs of Detroit, you can often get chickens and beef direct and non cafo. Game is available from my butcher, (bison, elk, venison), and similarly you may have friends who hunt and can Be a source of clean meat. Wild caught Salmon and the Smash fish are not that hard to source either, and many people live near lakes where they can fish. I personally like Tuna and canned Salmon and Crab. Free range Happy eggs are more but locally I can get fresh eggs for $2/dozen. I feel like for me the investment in the highest quality meats, etc. I can find is just an investment in my health, and as I have been able to come off of all my medicines and don't use conventional western doctors I am saving quite a bit there. I know everyone's situation is different, and just getting off ultra processed/industrial foods and eating real food is going to get you 90% of the way there, I wouldn't stress out about the grass fed, free range, wild caught at all. It is there for those who are trying to optimize as many aspects of their health as possible, everything matters but these smaller refinements are the icing on the cake and just eating real food is the foundation of great health benefits. Fight the good fight, and eat with gladness and mindfulness, God bless.

I came across Dr. Bredesen and his research, and book, into “The End of Alzheimer’s”. All your knowledge into the chemistry of it all sure pairs with his research. Inflammation, insulin resistance, fasting (being good) and many other things you have brought up, Dr. Bredesen talks about and confirms it all. Even for younger people, to help prevent Alzheimer’s and other neurological (inflammatory) diseases, what we eat is vital to a healthy aging process. Strong work, Thomas. Please keep the videos coming. Much respect. By the way, my husband and I will be at a grocery and one of us will say “Oh! I get that some people just want the list so it would be helpful for reference to have the video sections marked. But I want the journal reviews. Titanium dioxide section needs a journal review. It is in lotions, cosmetics, powders and I have concerns about nanoparticles but the amount in a mentos is a concern? Is there a journal article showing reduced variety of gut microbiome from that? Almost impossible to break that stuff down without very strong acids. Or is the issue nano particles of TiO2 which I suspect could be higher levels in the blood even from using sunscreen. I don't understand. Also what is meat quality definition for this video? I like when there are more references not less. Thanks for great video info.,

Thank you, very informative! I do have a question re 'low quality' meat. Is the phosphate percentage included on the packaging? If so, what percentage would be good, and what amounts would you avoid?
@vikigossen15783 жыл бұрын
Agree I would like a better understanding of "low" versus "high" quality. I feel like other videos it might be about omega 3 to omega 6 ration as in grass fed is better but my impression of this video is it's not about that but possibly cuts of meat versus processed meat foods like deli meats or burgers but he didn't state that. Would like clarification.
@dontfit63803 жыл бұрын
Phosphate will not be listed. What you want to find is grass fed grass finished. Preferably find a local farmer. You don’t want corn finished that is what he refers to as low quality.
@acacioalves78613 жыл бұрын
What is your definition for low/high quality meat? The cuts (sirloin vs ribs)? Grass-fed?
I've consumed a lot of low quality meats and poultry in my lifetime, and while thankfully under your tutelage I've switched to high quality meats via ButcherBox, which is delivered to me monthly, there is a significant difference in price than the "couple of bucks" that you mentioned in your video. The extra expense is worth it, but I just wanted to clarify that it is a lot more expensive than the low quality meats and poultry that I bought at the grocery store.
@TimeIdle3 жыл бұрын

Yeah, I live up here in Canada, and the online grass fed beef is literally double the price of the factory farmed grocery store stuff. That said, by eating the good stuff at home, as opposed to eating out, ends up cheaper and much healthier anyway.
@tannertuner3 жыл бұрын
Dr. Ken Berry did a video last year or year before where he talked about a study that evaluated the difference between grass fed and feedlot beef. The omega ratio differences weren’t as drastic as it’s been made out to be. Here, we can buy select ribeye for about $6/lb when it’s on sale at the grocery store. That’s 4 good size steaks for $20-24. Ribeye and T-bone alternate sale weeks. Select T-bone is about $5/lb. That’s even cheaper than Walmart. But grass fed jumps to over $20/lb for grass finished because there’s only one farm within 200 miles that grow grass finished beef, or whatever it costs for butcher box. I looked at it one time and just couldn’t justify that cost.

I can still get on elliptical and run for 45 even out of shape as I am now . Anyway at beginning of 2020 I came off Metformin and went IF and Keto and reversed A1C down to 4.8 , NO MEDS !! It did go up some to 5.3 . So I have maintained normal A1C for a year . Just have to stay focused on keto . And thx for the info on the caffeine since I hate the while coffee thing. I do energy drinks about 4 days a week and need to cut it out all together so glad o seen this video about the other stuff in them that can have negative effects on people over 50 . I do have a normal Bp of around 132/70 and am on NO meds of any kind but I do use a CPAP machine . I do however use a steroid cream for excema which I have delt with on and off my whole life , but the IF and lower carb diet has helped that too . Just lately been struggling to stay with it until just recently as I have been improving my eating habits and being a truck driver for a produce distributor with hrs I work does make it a little hard sometimes so on days when I fail to pack a lunch ( I eat twice a day and do OMAD 3 days a week ) when I am focused so been working on that routine after I had fallen off of it recently. I still have a ways to go for sure . Love watching these videos and they do remind me and help me regain my focus and learn new stuff from them too .

I thought of the theory of SUPPLY AND DEMAND. if we consumers start not consuming these unhealthy foods and being mindful of ingredients food suppliers are adding for profit purposes, meats,poultry, eggs, fishes , if we don’t buy them and consume them it will probably in the long run improved ... thanks for your research and education to anyone that finds such channels like yours. Quality of foods hopefully will return to how it used to be in the olden times...

I'm 56 and really working hard on losing weight by fasting, acv consumption morning and night and going to the gym 4 days a week. I love coffee in the morning and see you recommend Green Tea. Should I get off coffee and go to hot and cold green tea drinks? Lastly, I've learned more science and chemistry from your videos than all my years in school.

Thomas, or anyone, can you discuss how insulin affects people with Type 1 diabetes? They HAVE to take in I sulin to live. What does that do to their longevity? My son is T1 and his doctors always tell him he can take in carbs/sugar as long as he balances it with insulin. I say, less sugar, less insulin, less money spent and less poor affects on blood sugar

Thomas what is your definition of "high quality meats"? I understand that a large percentage of the carnivore community would define that as grass-fed red meats (and may or may not include chicken and pork due to their corn/soy feed), but I'm not so sure that is what you are referring to and would like confirmation. Please advise examples of high quality meats you would recommend. Thank you.

Meat is expensive; to birth, raise, slaughter, preserve. Modern farming practices short-cut as much of those processes as they consider economically possible. If you eat meat you should look at where that meat came from, and beware that some of those modern farming shortcuts may impact the quality, and safety, of the resulting meat on your plate.
@KJB00013 жыл бұрын
@@tazboy1934 normal people can afford it as so little is actually needed. Americans seem to think they need 10 oz of meat 3 times a day 7 days a week and never consider other non meat protein options or the actual grams they should consume.

Thank you Mr DeLauer for this info. I have an unrelated question. regarding mosquito bite swelling : any suggestions to avoid/deter /treat? Don’t want to use topical toxic chemicals and now that the hot days are here I’ve been bitten on hands/ankles and the swelling red spots could use attention- internally or externally. On keto/IF nearly 3 years but once I get a bite I don’t know what or how to help with the swelling. Best is to avoid so I am seeking help in both areas (avoid & treating ) Can you help?
@barlotardy3 жыл бұрын
I live in the woods of northern New England, so I can offer a tip or two: 1) eat plenty of garlic regularly; Mosquitos don't bite as often, and as a bonus, I've noticed that ticks avoid me all together. 2) treat bites with a paste made from baking soda, which will reduce the itching and draw out the bloodsucker's enzymes that cause the swelling. Any kind of paste-type toothpaste will also work for this in a pinch. Hope that helps.
