This is, in general, my support for doing 2MAD instead of OMAD, and eating three meals the day after resistance training, usually starting my next day with scrambled eggs, or something like that. To balance this, I skip a day of eating (or two) on the weekend, resetting my insulin level to keep it low overall.
@felipearbustopotd Жыл бұрын
Dr Donald Layman swayed me from going from OMAD to a minimum of 2MAD. That said OMAD was getting me results with resistance training, but in small incremental amounts of gains.
@CarbageMan Жыл бұрын
@@felipearbustopotd Great! You may find you can sneak in a mini-meal of about a third pound of lean animal protein (such as shrimp or white fish) shortly after your workout. I pair this with a collagen shake that has EAAs. Then about an hour later after your blood sugar goes down, you can have a keto meal with red meat. That's what I've been doing lately. Depending on the timing and energy balance, you can have a second "real" meal later. I try to make my last meal before 6pm. PS: Interestingly enough, I basically got similar advice from Dr Gabrielle Lyon, who often podcasts with Dr Layman. Her optimal advice was three meals, 35g+, five hours apart. If I have three, I squeeze them together a bit, as described, and make the space at least 3 hours between keto meals.

My serum creatinine is 1.4 which puts my eGFR at 49, which is considered low and a possible indicator of kidney disease. If I eat more protein will it further increase my serum creatinine and lower my eGFR? Does this mean I am harming my kidneys with too much protein or is the higher serum creatinine not really a problem in the absence of other indicators of kidney disease?

By eliminating animal protein and dairy within 3 months my creatinine has dropped to 1.18 with eGFR at 60...if your BUN is high it's another indication of kidney issues.. People in our age group need to cut down on protein and stay hydrated. I only know this because this happened to me...I expect my eGFR to continue to rise... bear in mind I had no issues other then high creatinine and BUN.. If you eat more protein you can expect your eGFR to lower to possible stage 3b or 4. Also the heavy weight lifting will increase creatinine

(I lost 100 on keto but sadly gained 30lbs back in lockdown 2020 when I started eating rubbish takeaways again..but back on keto now to lose that 30lbs regain) I usually use pea protein, whey (even though it illicits a inusulin spike, however good for building muscle) and and creratine to get to over 100 grams of protein per day because for me, I have to cut calories a bit to lose that weight and adding the powders help get the protein up without adding bunches of calories while increasing the protein amounts. xx

Depending on the person it could be as low as 0.8 - 1.0 or 73 to 91 grams of protein for you at 200 lbs...but you do have a range to shoot for now.

basically .8 to 1.0 grams protein per lb body weight (I add in ideal body weight for myself)
@HufflepuffDaddy3 жыл бұрын
@@erichanson5628 the controversy or confusion stems from Metric (grams, kilograms) vs. Standard (lbs, pounds). For example: 0.8 - 1.0 grams (metric) of protein for every pound (standard) you weigh -OR- 0.8 - 1.0 grams (metric) of protein for every kilogram (metric) you weigh I see both formulas used everywhere...but I lean toward the metric conversion myself because I see more of that formula being used. The better written articles and studies will let you know they are converting pounds to kilograms, or going metric, in their discussions. Given the confusion, I would just "ballpark" it since getting 200 grams of protein would be cost-prohibitive to non-bodybuilders but 70-140 grams (pure metric system) is more doable. For ex. I need a protein shake just to get near 100 on intermittent fasting (smaller eating window).

Request you do an analysis of the "blue zones around the world and relate protein intake to what you just stated in this video. none of the blue zone groups eat high protein and they live 90 to100 years old.

I am confused. A year ago you had a video that said, “If you eat before a workout, you might as well not workout.” This, if I understand correctly, says I should eat protein pre-workout. Dr. Berg says best to workout later in the day, after a meal. I am 58 and trying to get this right. Please clarify. Thank you!

Well, “Dr” (not a medical doctor) Berg is a Scientologist, so … there’s that when considering how much you want to follow his thinking.

Hi I have learnt a lot from your videos and to date have lost 11kg and 3" off the waste. I now want to move away from struct keto and increase protein. After watching video I found I would need around 115g of protein (1.5*75). Now using chicken as my example that means I need to consume nearly 1/2kg to get this much protein. Am I missing something? This is a massive lump of meat. I'm also IF which makes even harder to complete in limited window. Any help will be appreciated and keep up the good videos.

I quite often don’t feel like eating protein like I did in the 20’s because of the heaviness of meat. Is there something lighter that can be added between the ‘lack of meat cravings’ lol?

@erichanson56283 жыл бұрын
Use an application or website such as lose it or chronometer. Make sure you hit the protein targets mentioned by Thomas. I go with 1g of protein per ideal body weight. In the video Thomas mentions 0.8 to 1.0 grams per lb of body weight so for my case I am in that range. Once you do this add in your carbs and then healthy fats (e.g. avocado, salmon, 1 ounce of unsweetened chocolate, a few eggs). What I observe is that my grams of protein are slightly higher than grams of fat. However calories from fat are slightly higher than calories from protein. It has been very effective for weight loss as well as retaining muscle.

I have a question: Do you base the amount of protein you take in on your actual weight or do base it on what you should weigh EX. I'm 210 pounds, but i should be 175 pounds. do i take in protein for 175 pounds person?
@shawnmulberry7743 жыл бұрын
I base it on my target weight. Its still hard to eat enough but as I lose fat and maintain lean mass, I approach my target weight and I will be eating the correct amount. I started at 235 and a few months later was 190 which was my target. Similar change for you. Im trying to build lean mass (now that I stripped off the fat) and Im eating ~150g protein in two meals that are close together. Not easy. You have to weight train to build mass. I was out of shape so I started with light calisthenics and eventually to weights. I can do 3 pullups now! lol . I was always kind of chubby so I look about as good as my 20s now, same waist and general dimensions. It's kind of unbelievable, and i lost 4 inches of waist!
@vitopass1233 жыл бұрын
@@shawnmulberry774 Thanks Shawn. I figured it should be target weight. I lost like 80 pounds on keto, and intermittent fasting.. I was around 300 pounds now 215. I'm also thinking about hitting the weight to build mass as i get closer to my target weight. I'm over 50 yrs, and it not easy, but I'm trying. thanks again.
