Fabulous video again Tom. I love the camping videos. Your original wild camping video is what inspired me to start my wild camping youtube channel. There's no finer feeling than opening your tent overlooking the fells and lakes. I've only recently begun to take the photography side of things a little more seriously. Great tips as always...Oh and well jealous of the camper. 😀. Thanks for sharing. Paul

No, it didn't work. I just managed to leave out the sky, so to have gone vertical would have either introduced the sky or made the image too top heavy 👍

I see what you were going for with the lower contrast/clarity ethereal look, but I think it's overcooked (or maybe the scene was naturally overcooked). The softness from the leaves takes away the little contrast left. I think the photo could use some more dynamic range with some deeper tones.

Thank you Thomas for all of your inspiring work and videos. I have been a fan for a few years now but think this is my first time commenting. I would like to know if you have any tips that help you to stay motivated and inspired to keep producing content, for the world to see? Last year, I tried my hand at vlogging and made two landscape photography videos. I don't really consider myself a landscape photographer (although I wish I did) but rather a guy that dabbles in many areas of photography and filmmaking but has never really found a way to benefit much financially, from any of it. Although the two vlogs I made last year I feel were decent (certainly room for improvement in all areas), for my first tries and did yield some positive response, I have not found the motivation to go out and pursue it again. I want to. I just don't. I believe that the things that hold me back are, my current negative outlook on life (depression), the lack of guarantee of capturing a spectacular image, the costs of travel and vehicle maintenance, the risks of theft or injury all combined with the knowing that I will be doing it all alone. You see, I am 42 years old, divorced, have a wonderful daughter 50% of the time but the other 50% I am always by myself. Which makes it more difficult to go out for extended photography excursions, by myself. I have very little support for my endeavors from friends or family. They simply have no interest in adventures that the emphasis is on photography. Sure, I could get company if the purpose of the trip is 4x4 adventure alone but when I try to combine that type of trip with my desire to be at the right place, during the right time, for great photography, it never happens. Also, although my SUV has a roof top tent that is comfortable for two adults, the idea of sharing it with another dude does not appeal to me. So there's that too. I should also mention that a hard drive containing all of my photo/video work (including the content from last years vlogs) from the past 5 years has failed and been determined unrecoverable. Still heartbroken from that one. I feel I have all the tools one could want (both physical and knowledge) to create great things but they're rarely put to use anymore. It is really a shame. Anyhow, sorry for the long post. I know you are a busy guy, pursuing your dreams, so if you even find the time to read and comment on this, I would be shocked. However, if you did have any advice for the guys that are stuck in a rut, I do appreciate your insight. If you do ever find yourself super bored, waiting for that perfect light to roll in, perhaps you might critique how you think I've done with my photography vlogging attempts. Here's the link to my first vlog. It is much longer than my second one but I feel gives a better introduction of myself. Thank you for all that you share with us. kzbin.info/www/bejne/bXfMZGWHh52bbrc

I generally appreciate your slick and professional videos but I'm starting to think 'less is more'. This felt a bit hollow and put out for commercial rather than creative reasons. It could have been edited into a 6 or 7 minute vid. And can't you just stick the Squarespace advertising on a frame at the end. Thereby fulfilling your contractual obligations and allowing your punters to exit before the ad?

My own passion for photography is really about capturing hiking and camping experiences - so I really appreciate and admire these videos especially. An area that challenges me on my longer trips is the weight of gear. Mostly, I just don't worry and carry a little heavy - however, the tripod has long been the one item that challenges me. I recently picked up a special tripod head plate that allows me to use my hiking poles as two of the legs and a pole as the third. I'd be interested in hearing your take on lightweight tripods and their alternatives (like Gorillapods). The item I used on my lasts two week-long hikes was called the TrailPix Ultralight tripod.

Thomas, I appreciate your hard work and passion. Your videos have conviced me I can not be a landscape photographer. Only one photo? Truth be told, hiking in the hills can be boring as the landscape rarely changes. And I think your prized photo was "enhanced" like the girl last night who was twirling on a brass pole. The big suction camera mount in your windscreen is illegal by the way. You need to mount it so the cups are outside the sweep of the wiper blades. You are only permitted a maximum of 40mm diameter of obscured area in the swept area of the screen. Basically the size of the old tax disc holder, for obvious reasons.
