Just want to say that the last picture of the rocks in the lake might be my favourite picture of yours that I have ever seen, and I've been watching your videos for at least 2-3 years at this point! The rocks coming out of the water diagonally remind me of a beach I used to go to when I was young and have loved how that looks ever since!

Thomas, the main reason lens collars are used is so that the weight of the heavy and long lens will be balanced well with the camera body and won't damage the mount on the camera body, which can be damaged easily and pulled out of alignment and bent. It's best to use them when a lens comes provided with a tripod collar mount for those reasons.

Looks like a great camera. Who really needs all the extra features added to other cameras....most of them will go unused anyway. I started drooling when I saw the Hasselblad name on the video.

I was wondering when Hasselblad were going o get one of these into Mr Heaton's hands. I love what Hasselblad has done, it's exactly what most photographers want, simple, and easy to use, and the actual "camera" gets out of the way. Once the the photographer picks a system and invests in lenses just a simple "back" upgrade and there's a "new" camera. Well done Hasselblad and keep making the videos.

Funny. I made a PowerPoint proposal for a similar camera a few years ago. But my proposal was intended for Fuji... because I love my Fuji. My proposal was sort of a “Fujiblad”. One difference was to put the screen on the top, but still tilt-able. Design the flip so it could flip to back for eye-level shooting and flip to front for selfie/vlog. But priority was for waist level shooting. Also an attachable waist-level hood for the display to shield the sun. Since square sensors are rare and expensive, maybe put the sensor in portrait orientation rather than landscape. Anyway, I couldn’t find any means of sharing my idea with Fuji. All channels seemed blocked to me. And one KZbin photographer told me nobody would want this. In the end, I suppose this camera really ought to be made by Hasselblad anyway. Nice to see they did something similar to what I imagined.

your comment on lack of long lenses is just another reason to do what I have done. I use the Fujifilm GFX50r and have a techart adapter. That adapter allows me to use my Canon ef glass, my old long lenses. The adapter is smart so I have AF and aperture control. And I am finding most EF lenses cover the sensor. And those that don't I can shoot the camera in 35mm full frame format. I also have FD, Minolta, Leica and other adapters which allow older manual focus lenses to be used. Many of them are crazy beautiful, like the old Leica Elmarit 135 f4 lens I have. The versatility of being able to use both dumb and smart adapters makes my 50r my favorite camera I have ever owned in my 40+ yrs of shooting. Don't underestimate adapters.

I learn something new with each of your videos. While so many others can be incredibly superficial and lackadaisical with their photography, yours has substance, depth, and purpose. While teaching myself through my own journey, I have also had the privilege of vicariously learning through the journeys of photographers such as yourself. It is greatly appreciated and I sincerely thank you.

I’ve just sold my X1D and a couple of other cameras to buy this. Sure, it’s a bit more expensive than the X1D II 50C (with its EVF) but worth remembering it’s actually two cameras in one: a modern medium format system to use with Hasselblad’s XCD lenses, and a 50MP digital back which will also work seamlessly with my lovely 500C/M. That ticks so many boxes for me and I was surprised when Hasselblad announced it at £5990. Great video, Thomas. And I’m very keen to see and hear your thoughts when you use the digital back with your old Hasselblad.

I wouldn't have been able to use it on my old 503CW - it was bad enough to use the 645 backs - what use is the big camera and the big mirror and the big viewfinder if everything gets cropped anway? No square format => no use for the big camera. Also - Hasselblad stated that they aren't going to produce high res backs for the V system because the lenses aren't good enough. Now suddenly that doesn't matter, now that they can milk these customers too they simply will forget about that. Oh well. Might as well get a PhaseOne back for the 500C/M, there are even full frame 645 backs that you can get for way less than the 907X.
@ThePlodger
@ThePlodger 3 жыл бұрын
I have an H2 with an older Phase One P65+ back. The phase is full size 645, no crop. It can be a handful to use - it’s heavy, eats battery, user interface is a bit weird though actually very comfortable when you get used to it and you get it dialed in. It’s a CCD, not CMOS, so the down side is that it doesn’t do high ISO. But the flip side is that the colour is absolutely amazing, and the image quality is incredible. It wasn’t cheap second hand a couple of years ago when I bought it, but it was stratospherically expensive new.
@Crispy_Bee
@Crispy_Bee 3 жыл бұрын
@@ThePlodger I had the same back on a PhaseOne camera. Image quality is great but - to be honest - nothing that can't be matched with a modern CMOS camera. The larger sensor though...

Currently using a Phase One IQ250 back with the same sensor. Love the IQ from it! I tried and didn't get along with the GFX100 for a variety of reasons and ended up sticking with the Phase One. The 907x with a hypothetical CFV100c sensor (I can dream!) would be ideal for me... using my back on a tech cam would be a dream with the BSI 100MP CMOS sensor, and I could also pop it on my 500 CM from time to time. Thanks for the video review!

I love the look of the camera, with its smooth, rounded chromed edges, it really makes you want to hold it. Forget about taking photos with it, just caress it. I wonder if they sell a cheaper one with no sensor of electricity nice in.... I’m not a fan of having to press and hold buttons and turn a dial to adjust aperture, I’ve had cameras like that before and I’m not keen on them. The loss of a view finder on a camera like that, for the sort of subjects it’s likely to be used on, I can’t see as a major issue, the LCD looked bright and contrasts enough to rely on in daylight. I’m looking forward to you putting the back on the 500cm.

I’ve been using medium format cameras since the the late 1970s. Pentax 67, pentax 645 and Arca Swiss 69 view cameras. And now fujifilm gfx. The pentax 645 was the most ergonomic user friendly camera I’ve ever used. Tho the tilting screen of the gfx def gives the Pentax a run for its money. Friends used the Hasselblad for fashion and occasionally architecture, especially the fixed lens 38mm. One of the great wide angle lenses ever. My point of the long comments above is that this 907x just seems like 2/3 of a camera. It looks like you work for it, not the other way around. No view finder (add $700) no grip add another $990; no on camera controls (add a diff camera) And all the lenses are leaf shutter. In other words this is really a tripod only strobe based camera designed for fashion. And lastly the boxy shape is crying out for a square sensor. If this camera had square 75mb sensor and a grip and controls it would be a great fashion and product camera. Frankly I do not understand why most manufacturers threw the baby out with the bath water. One of the fabulous thing about the film era leaf shutter hassleblads was the fact that you could lock the EV on the lens and then run through all the shutter speed / f stop combinations. Why anybody would give that up on a leaf shutter system and have to use a touch screen without being able to see the image is completely beyond me. This camera simply seems like a research prototype being sold as an actual finished product.

About the shutter and aperture setting: if you thing about how a normal 5-series is used, that is holding the camera under with your left hand with your index finger to press the shutter. The focus the lens with your right hand... to me it feels natural to use the dial/shutter button with the left hand and the side button with your right. Not both with the same hand as Thomas is doing. If you're used to shoot a 5-series the setup seems quite logic to me.

If the firmware can give you a histogram of a photo in preview then that is your histogram. Take shot, review it with histogram, adjust. With this camera's "viewfinder" I might have to track down my old black over the head cloth that we used with large format. When you walk about with basic kit (and not as if you are moving house) you could consider a lightweight laptop with tether cable. There are shades/hoods for laptops to facilitate working in bright light. This may make the camera's viewfinder redundant and save the battery. Also, it becomes a remote control for exposure, focusing, etc..

Given the market, and what's available to us as photographers these days it strikes me this camera really is more about what you're driving rather than the destination. Great video Tom, not sure the camera would be for me. If i had the money, FUJIFILM GFX100 would be my go to. At the end of the day, the best camera is always the one you have with you. Cracking sunset shot at the end, my favourite would be the first and last images you took. Thank you for the great content as usual.

It would be great to see what results a professional like yourself can get from a kit lens. As a total beginner, there seems to be a lot of emphasis on bigger and more expensive lenses and I think this can put newbies off. I'm guilty of considering ditching my kit lens for something I can hardly afford, because I've convinced myself it's not up to the job!

Something about this camera just seems to fit your style, Thomas, even if it's "a bit faffy". And maybe I'm imagining it, or maybe it was just the light that day, but the colors coming out of this thing look spectacular. Somehow reminiscent of the look I see coming off of large format film, i.e. Ben Horne's work. Wonderful images.
