___ but there's a lot of subjects (at least in Finland, I dunno if the same things are taught in the same way in other countries) that could be taught less and then let those interested study those parts of history more on other courses. like I was taught a LOT about ancient Egypt, Greek and Rome but those imo aren't as important as recent history such as many of the things mentioned in this video. despite my love for ancient Egypt, I think extremely detailed information about how ancient Egyptians embalmed people isn't as important as who helped MLK to really spread his message... I only got to learn about MLK and that's it, we didn't even go to too great details about him either. "he was black, he fought for black people's rights, he said he has a dream, okay now let's read about the Winter War for the next 6 classes"

I'm military, and I'm sad that one of the most amazing men who served in the AirForce and Army AirCore is overlooked. He was the first African American Four Star General, Gen Daniel "Chappy" James Jr, and he's also the man who trained the Tuskeegee Airmen, and faced down Gadaffi in Lybia without breaking a sweat. He was retired medically from the AirForce due to heart issues and died shortly after, but he was one of the main people who ended segregation in the military. Look him up. He was AMAZING.

I was so unbelievably happy when Terrance said Jamaicans because Marcus Mosiah Garvey is a Jamaican National Hero and when went all over the world, America included, especially Africa and supported racial equality and not many Americans (that I know at least) know about Jamaica's Right Excellent Marcus Mosiah Garvey. So Thomas if you see this (read as: please see this) I would love to know if you know about The Great Marcus Garvey. Also if anyone in the comments knows about him (Marcus Garvey) or you don't please comment as this is a great fact for Black History Month. So to everyone who took the time to read this I hope you comment and have a blessed day, and hopefully Thomas will see this and Marcus Garvey will be recognised in places other than Jamaica.

this was honestly the best video i have seen in a long time. a whole 28 days goes by every year (excusing leap year) and i have seen NOT ONE youtuber reference BHM unless they were an activism channel specifically. this is so important bc refusing to acknowledge a month set aside to a whole culture is almost like neglecting that side of your demographic which can never be acceptable. as a nation, Black history oftentimes goes overlooked and so many people are uneducated on the truth. so, as an african american female, thank you so much thomas for acknowledging this month and everything else you do to spread positive vibes for poc, lgbtq+, etc. this is why we love you!

Hey Thomas! So there is one historical figure that I'm really surprised that none of you mentioned. James Armistead was a slave during the American Revolution and after General Lafayette and his army had moved through James' master's land, James convinced his master let him enlist in the colonial army and said that he would come back to his life as a slave if he survived. James wound up being a spy within the British Troops for General Lafayette and actually gave him the information that nearly allowed our colonial troops to capture Benedict Arnold, our most famous traitor, and the information that won us the Battle of Yorktown. In case you don't remember The Battle of Yorktown is where the colonial army won the war. Without James' spying and risking his life repeatedly (especially since the British General, General Cornwallis, that he was spying against now thought that James was spying for him) and in so many terribly evil ways to die (captured spies are hung, a spy that you thought was spying for you, but was actually working for the enemy, no one wants to die the way that James would have, if he had been caught), after all of this General Lafayette and James petitioned to have James set free, which he was. He would later die on August 8th 1830 as a free man. There's also Elizabeth Freeman the first black slave to file a freedom lawsuit and win, in the state of Massachusetts. There's also Octavia E. Butler who became the first science fiction writer to receive a grant from the MacArthur Foundation. Those are just a few of my favorites that I've learned about over the years.

I am a senior in high school and I feel awful that I knew basically NONE of this; Common history classes are so whitewashed that all of these historical LEGENDS are seen as just nonexistent, I can't believe this, thank you for making this video, Thomas 💞
