@ThomenDrumChamber5 жыл бұрын
Hola Fabian!

@dontanton77755 жыл бұрын
Really don't want to bash Frederic. But what you do shows that instinct goes over education. Listen to the new BG stuff: So many songs are boring on the drums. There is just nothing happening. Most of it moved to the orchestral and chorus. When you play, there is a crash everywhere, in different pitches on different accents. And then all those tom tom action singing along the song. I so miss that part in blind guardian. The new BG is too clean on the drums. With you the drums felt like a part of the songwriting. The drums "had a voice" (up, down, high crash, low crash, break, short tom roll, long tom roll, always something going on, telling a story). A main instrument of the song. Now they only have supporting character in BG songs. They sound good, but just like every other band. And they got less volume too. They moved much more into the background. Probably because of all that chorus overkill (in terms of sound mix, not song writing, where BG always had strong chorus). In terms of sound, Flemming Rasmussen also just did the perfect balance. With Charlie Bauerfeind (who probably is a very capable producer) their is such a strong focus on the vocals so there just is no room for drums and sometimes even lead guitar. Flemming was the best and will always be the best. My opinion. Compare NIME to the albums afterwards. It's such a difference. Super defined and clear with Flemming VS. OVERLOAD, LISTEN TO MY WALL OF SOUND with Charlie.

Woooow!!!! These are really very kind words, Don! As I also commented already before at other places, i think everybody has a different taste and it's good this way. But i can of course understand your mood about all this, if you simply liked the old times more than the stuff nowadays. Of course, i love to read all thid and it makes me very proud to read sentences like yours, nevertheless i know that Fred is a great drummer and very kind guy and the whole band wants to develop its style always. Anyway, thanks a million once more for your praising words. Wooowww
@dontanton77755 жыл бұрын
@@ThomenDrumChamber Just to say this clearly: I respect Fred and he is a professional drummer! Yes. I still do not like the way he plays on the new BG stuff. That is the difference. It is too streamlined. Keep on rocking Mr Stauch.
@metaldetector50495 жыл бұрын
@@dontanton7775 sad things is that we can't be really sure about what Fred WOULD play. We all can't really know the boundaries session musicians have when they record an album.
@gringochucha4 жыл бұрын
Yep, you said it. Despite being called "power metal" Blind Guardian always had a unique sound. That unique sound was a combination of a lot of factors: the songwriting, Hansi's singing, Andre's solos, the slightly thrashy edge, among others. And Thomen's larger-than-life drumming was another big part of it. Despite never being super technical, his playing was always interesting and nuanced, with a lot of dynamics and a great, great sound. Frederik is a very capable drummer, but to me his playing doesn't stand out at all. You could replace him with any other power metal drummer and nobody would notice. On a side note, I always think it's funny how Thomen didn't seem to like the band's evolution on ANATO, because his drum performance on it is so fucking good. It's one of my favourite "drum albums" of all time (regardless of the production, because I do get your point).
