@@mbackup5450 It is given an even greater meaning when you see this from the perspective of a Catholic, especially since the musical setting and the overall tone of the movie is very Catholic (latin and all). In the Holy Mass, during the Anaphora, the Sanctus is sung. This prepares the faithful for the descent of the Holy Spirit upon the bread and wine in that they may become the Body and Blood and our Lord Jesus Christ. When this happens, the Epiclesis, succeeding this the Priest raises the bread and wine to Heaven, only that they are no longer just bread and wine, but the actual Body, Blood, Soul and Divinity of Jesus in the species of Bread and Wine, or the Transubstantiation. When Quasimodo raises Esmeralda, together with the Sanctus and the Gloria, the imagery makes it clear that this was an allegory of Jesus being sacrificed for our sins and dying at the hands of the Pharisees (Frollo) and the Romans. As a devout Catholic, this particular scene always gives me goosebumps.

They took a lot from Catholicism and Christianity for that scene. Well, the whole movie. Remember that Esmeralda was thought to be dead and when Quasi is in trouble (Frollo holding the knife), she is resurrected to help save him. The symbolism is beautiful.

this scene always gave me shivers, but....wow. when you actually understand what the words mean, it gives a whole new depth to it. I love how certain words such as "judge" have a double meaning, and..."Deliver me, o Lord, from eternal death" when Quasimodo goes to rescue her!? my gosh, that's just epic! this film really was Disney's masterpiece, and they put so much depth into it that really shows how committed they were to the story. I can't imagine any filmmaker would have the guts to do something like this today.

And here we go, one more occasion to exercise one of my favorite activities : adding the macrons to texts in Latin that don't distinguish vowel length, even though it's literally part of the pronunciation. Let's go. Jūdex crēderis (1) esse ventūrus In tē Domine spērāvī Nōn cōnfundar in aeternum Salvum fac populum tuum Jūdex crēderis (1) Kyrie Eleison/Κῡ́ριε (2) ἐλέησον Kyrie Eleison/Κῡ́ριε (2) ἐλέησον Kyrie Eleison/Κῡ́ριε (2) ἐλέησον Līberā mē, Domine ! Līberā mē Domine, dē mortē aeternā In diē illā tremendā Quandō caelī movendī sunt Caelī et Terra Dum vēneris (3) jūdicāre Saeculum per ignem Quae caelīs pandis ōstium Bella premunt hostīlia Dā rōbur, fer auxilium Sit sempiterna glōria, sit sempiterna glōria Sit sempiterna glōria, glōria Glōria semper Sānctus, Sānctus (also they sing that on a freaking B, quick props to the singers because as a soprano myself, I can tell you, that's super duper high) In excelsīs Cum resurget creātūra Jūdicantī respōnsūra Nihil inultum remanēbit Quem patrōnum rogātūrus cum vix jūstus sit sēcūrus ? Jūste, jūdex ultiōnis Ante diem ratiōnis Kyrie Eleison/Κῡ́ριε (2) ἐλέησον Kyrie Eleison/Κῡ́ριε (2) ἐλέησον (1) it translated as crēderis, present tense, and that to me makes more sense, but it could be crēdēris, future tense, especially since in the song they stress the second syllable (which in spoken form would mean it is the latter form, but it's being sung so it doesn't really mean anything) ; we can't know for sure (and that is why vowel length matters, it changes the meaning of the text). (2) sorry if the upsilon looks weird, I wanted to put a macron and a stress but it doesn't look great, and there is no precomposed Unicode character for that (3) slight ambiguity again ; vēneris is future perfect indicative and seems much more likely in the context of the song ; vēnerīs is possible too, although it seems unlikely since it's perfect (thus past) subjunctive, but again, i have no way to be absolutely certain There you go !

MomeRat, isn't she seething with rage like, "Tell that to me again, I DARE you!" after him? Because the ONLY thing they have in common the whole movie is that they hate each others guts: Him because she's A Romani, who he feels are like ants, but he also finds her pretty, and her because he treats pretty much her entire community like trash, which is how this whole thing even started!😂😂😂 And then to add insult to injury, when she angrily spit takes him (I think that's how you say it) as her answer between his ultimatum (which would mean he'd win both ways), he goes into 'temper tantrum' mode, which finalizes when she basically stares daggers at him (like she's so pissed like, " Yeah, I'd rather die helping out my people rather than EVER marry you, thank you very much!' If looks could kill, she'd never have to put up with him again because he'd be dead😂😂😂), which his ultimatum being kinda funny, because he's like, the most powerful and smartest guy in the city, and he never even knew that Phoebus claimed sanctuary for her, and never knew that he was hidden under Quasi's table RIGHT AFTER she left.. And the fact that he thought that'd she do anything to get out of turning into burnt chicken (basically ash) and getting shocked, then pissed off when she straight up refuses just makes me laugh because, Dude, just because you're rich and powerful, doesn't mean that she'll wanna be with you, and yet, you didn't see her spitting on your cheek coming after thinking that she'd want to marry you to get out of dying?! Are you stupid or what?!😂😂😂😂

@@CapedCrusader77 oh for sure, they both hate each other. He hates her because she’s a walking temptation for him (he wrongfully blames her for it instead of introspecting and realizing that HE is the problem), and she hates him for committing/attempting genocide against her people. Frollo believes his attraction to her is sinful, and that she’s cast a spell on him to cause it. He also thinks he can have his cake and eat it too if he marries her because then she’d be his in the eyes of God, or whatever, so he can justifiably lust after her. I was just describing the facial expressions from the scene. He’s absolutely _seething_ when she spits on him because it’s a universal sign of disrespect, but she’s absolutely also seething 😭

For the unofficial record, how many languages do you know?
@FlamSparks
@FlamSparks 7 жыл бұрын
For the unofficial record, the only language I consider myself to be fluent in is English. After that, the one I know the best is no doubt French, which I manage to understand when written and can write kind of decently. Then, I'm still a beginner with Swedish, but at least I can make myself understood, especially in the written form. Through Swedish, I'm trying to build a passive knowledge of Danish and Norwegian, which, when written, are rather close to Swedish, but still have a long way to go. I'm trying to do the same with Icelandic, but that's much more complecated than it is with Danish and Norwegian. As for Korean, beginner again, but at a lower level than Swedish. About Latin, among Italians you may happen to find several who studied it at high school, mostly against their will. That's my case: at high school, among the subjects I studied, I number 5 years of fuss with Latin. Still, when I tried this out, I realized I do have some sort of control over the language, albeit a bit rusty.

Ehm...

D4rkmatter, I'm technically doing this for a rewrite: the female protagonist, her boyfriend, and their friends are basically preparing to take down an evil king and queen, but then the queen (the king in disguise) joins them, soon herself to be the other spouse, and captures everyone. While in prison, the girl learns of not only her boyfriends supposed death, but also the fact that she and her family are actually the real rulers of the kingdom that the king and queen (who are sorcerers) stole it from. It comes to a head the following evening when he and the king start an argument, which he's pretty calm in, all things considered, albeit some slight interruptions, but she slowly grows furious about this whole thing, and basically loses it in an awesome way when he basically makes the exact same ultimatum: she karate-kicks him in the jaw, then (since she was born with vines that can become thorns at will) ends up Anakin scarring him from above his eye to close to his jaw, and when he insults her by calling her ' a bigger problem than he thought ', she ends up spitting on the cheek she scratched in anger, which gets on his bleeding cheek and sees a mix of it when he wipes it away before it could start to sting, with her glaring daggers, ready to do some serious damage way worse than what he received, and her eyes turn a dark Orange (her eyes change color depending on high her her mood is) which is Pure Hatred. The only change beside that is that she's sentenced to be hanged, instead of burned, with the noose slowly tightening around her neck causing her to slowly pass out. A fire does surround her, but it's more of a way to prevent anyone from helping her, but thankfully her boyfriend arrives to save her just after she passes out, with her brief acknowledging him beforehand before she does pass out. Might sound like I'm basically copying it (which I probably am/ took inspiration from😅😅), but that finale is amazing, and I also moved the fight/execution to dusk the day after they're captured, not the morning after. I don't know if that's how you'd like it, since I'm working on its second draft, but let me know what you think of that. I can even tell you what the story is if you want.
