As someone who has ADHD and has legally taken medication for it for over a decade, a lot of the people seem misinformed about Ritalin, Adderall, Methylphenidates etc actually do. They don't magically improve your aim, they don't make you naturally communicate more effectively, and if you take them they certainly won't just make you play at the pro-level. What these medications do is sharpen your focus. CS:GO players that are doing Adderall are probably more likely to notice subtle footsteps, more likely to be constantly checking the mini-map, and able to keep the teams plan in mind while they are executing the strat(i.e., not getting lost in the moment). Also, ADHD meds aren't without their drawbacks; from personal experience, if you aren't careful, they will seriously fuck up your sleep patterns, your diet, and if you take them constantly, your body will get used to drugs, and you'll have to take higher and higher doses just to get the same effect.

Practice is boring as fuck and without "assistance" it's easy to just try and skip a day, but adderall makes you find getting your schedule done enjoyable and not even notice it's happening.

I agree with them increasing the focus, however this in itself is a con of the medication more than a pro. For me, I tend to hyperfocus (this is on 30mg of vyvance btw) and I don't look off my crosshair. Thus meaning that I actually CANT hear the footsteps OR look at the shit on the map. For me, who does definetly have adhd, I find these medicenes useful for getting tedious, straneous, brainless, boring long tasks complete. They are NOT useful for CSGO or for tasks that require critical thinking. Just my experience.

I'm only a few minutes in but Thorin is on point so far with the history of drug use back then. I'll never forget going to a PNY tourney and we played in the Atlanta area (Marietta) back in 2006 and there were guys there on coke and one of our players was a huge pothead. I loved the kid and he played great but I always argued that he was better sober. I had a kid on my team before that in 2005 who clearly had ADHD was two different people when he took Adderall. It's not new and never will be. But he's right. The best players (the Swedes) along with Team 3D and coL did things the right way and were healthy and took CS very seriously.

As someone with a prescription for addy, who is also really good at League/vidya in general, maybe I can maybe contribute some insight here. Adderall doesn't really help me perform better except as a to avoid tilt. The level of focus, combined with forethought, needed to do clutch reaction plays, is not improved for me with adderall. In CS:GO, more twitch plays are needed, but these plays are always informed by fundamental understanding of where someone can be/what they can do (i.e. by hard work) before they are enhanced by natural talent. If anyone is pondering using adderall for "improving" in any game, know that it will probably not help your game-to-game results in any sustainable form that could not be achieved by playing the same amount of games naturally. I guess I'm saying: don't believe the hype or that adderall is necessary. If someone looks amazing while on adderall, it is probably confirmation bias to assume adderall is the cause.

I'm 27 years old and I've been playing CS since 2000. I'm also narcoleptic and struggled for years obtaining a diagnosis because of issues with health insurance. I am now diagnosed and on Provigil, but for a long time I was self-medicating with an Adderall prescription that I bought from a friend. I needed something to keep myself awake or I would sleep for 20 hours a day, and Adderall did the job. More than just maintaining a wakeful state, it provided long stretches of energy and weightlessness in my body, and focus / interest / excitement mentally. To keep it short and simple, it's like living for free. There's no need to eat, stretch / warm up, get comfortable, and then build up a focused state. You're existing in it from the moment the meds kick in until the headaches force you to pass out. And if it's performance enhancing, that's the aspect that makes it so. Your actual accuracy, reaction time, and game sense are not boosted to some super human level.. you're just able to play at your true skill level without the difficulties of having a body with needs, if that makes any sense. Now that I'm off of adderall and taking a medication designed to regulate my sleep issues, I'm not spending 16 hours a day in back to back games but when I am playing I'm still the same gamer with the same skills as before. If you believe that amphetamines grant a person abilities they do not naturally have then you are in denial, but it is no secret that the drug makes life easier.

As a masters student in psychology I can confirm that the Lisdexamfetamine social phenomenon is nearly entirely an American thing. You said it correctly in your video that non-american psychiatrists are a bit more skeptical of giving prescriptions, strictly because it is more moral. Adderall is a very addictive drug that a body can not necessarily become reliant on, but feels it needs in order to feel normal, much like coffee. American doctors simply get paid for prescribing it, and once you have someone on adderall, they may be customers for life.

Spot on about habitual smokers. When you use Cannabis your internal Endocannabinoid system adjusts its own levels. If you don't smoke, it takes a few days or more for the Endocannabinoid system to come back to normal so you don't feel rekt not having weed. 10:20 i confirm this, i had times in my life while i was constantly smoking weed morning to evening and playing cs, and from my 10year playing experience that period when i just played stoned all day was my absolute prime. Weed is a performance enhancer, but as long as you use it as thorin described. Its way different than amphetamines or adderral. Weed used constantly makes you creative, kinda more autistic and precise about what you do. Really hard to explain but it kinda makes your brain more work more vivid and less mechanical in a situation that occured for a millionth time (lets say flicking your crosshair to the target or clutch decision making). It feels like a bigger part of your brain is involved in completing such tasks as for example aiming with your mouse and so on. You get hypnotized by the role you play when your on weed, more into whatever you live (spiritual grounds here hehheh). So - weed is a drug that will enhance your gameplay. Not when you use it once or few times, but when you really smoke it every day and relearn how to play cs (in that case) being drugged by it. Pssst smoke sativa! sour diesel ftw!

Stuff like alcohol, coffee, cigarettes and weed does create a physical addiction in the sense that you need your fix to function closely to how a non user does. It has to do with how their active substances interact with neurotransmitters in the brain. Take coffee for instance, the way it makes you more alert/less tired is actually to block out receptors in the brain that connect with adenosine (a neurotransmitter), which is a chemical produced by the body. When adenosine connects with these receptors, you feel tired. The stimuli (how many receptors that the molecules collide with) affects if you only feel a little bit or very tired. Now here is the kicker; it's an auto-correcting system, meaning the body will respond by producing more receptors and more adenosine to sort of compensate for the ones blocked by the caffeine. A habitual coffee drinker will de facto be more tired than a person who doesnt drink coffee, if they dont get their usual dosage of caffeine.

As someone who does have ADHD and is prescribed Adderall, I can tell you Adderall does up your reaction time and performance when it comes to games. When the Adderall is working, I can beat all of my high scores on a beat game called Osu! When I play League of Legends on it, I often go on winning streaks and jump up a division. If I run out before my next prescription, I am just really tired and would want to sleep for a few days. But I don't ever withdrawal from not having it. So yeah, there is a very dramatic difference.

If anyone is interested, some of the side effects are insomnia, mood swings, and lack of appetite. I have a prescription for it and use it daily (I have ADHD) and sometimes I will forget to eat while the medicine is in my system. You can also get issues with your heart if you drink a lot of caffeine with it because they both make your heart beat faster. Just thought I'd share some of the negatives to it. Also, as a side note, I don't notice much of a difference when I play cs:go on it from when I play without it. It's possible that my skill level isn't high enough to make a noticeable difference and I definitely see how it could help someone play better.

I was diagnosed with adhd in like 93. I was prolly one of the first kids I ever heard of with this disorder.I was prescribed aderall sometime around 1997/98. I did not like it so I actually stopped taking. It was not long before people started trying to get my unused pills. I had friends using that stuff for all sorts of uses. One of my friends used it to fuel his alcoholism. He could drink for days and nights with little or no sleep. Others used it as a studying aid. Some crushed it up and smoked it, and even snorted it I think.

I think it varies per person whether or not weed helps you in games. Yes it slows reactions, so it might not be the best for high level CSGO gameplay, but i know from myself that i can concentrate more on what i'm doing, ie. the game, when i smoke weed :)

adderall isnt a performance enhancer in CSGO. it just makes you make decisions quickly, but generally you will make the wrong one. other memory enhancers like PRL-8-53 could improve players' memory of maps and angles, and obviosuly drugs like caffeine/theanine, nicotine, modafinil, noopept, and phenibut could all enhance your abilities in CS, but i hardly think adderall improvements are anything other than placebo. meth would definitely have some immediate effects, but the neurotoxicity would eventually drag you down to a silver-level player because you will literally lose your brain function slowly over time. meth is called shit for a reason.

honestly. as an american, ive been given adderal, vyvanse (very long acting version), and forms of ritalin since i was 12. My doctor even told me i dont need to take it all the time, only when i need to study or focus. And it can help, but i can do very well on ritalin, then the next day be completely clean and play as well or better. A lot of it is mental state and telling yourself "i can make this shot" or "i CAN pull off this insane 1v3 clutch i normally cant" Drugs can help, but they can also really, really mess your games up if you get anxious and think too much.

If players are willing to consistently use it to gain the edge that it can give you (no one talks about how it could negatively effect you) then let them. I'm a habitual smoker and sometimes i'm good and sometimes i'm bad. I dont think it has anything to do with the weed. The only drug I can personally vouch for improving my performance is cocaine. Problem is it's a dangerous and expensive drug so I only use maybe once or twice a year. It never fails though, do a large line and I turn into a machine. My player movement, spatial awareness and reflexes go through the roof. This was back when I played Soldier of Fortune 2, I have yet to play CS on anything other than weed and beer. I guess the difference is are you using a drug specifically for the game, or are you a user who would be playing games and getting stoned anyway.

Just a thing on the weed, no, hell no, it doesn't help at all. There MAAAAAY be a very, very small % of people it could help, those people would be those that think too much, who are literally too smart and pre cautious. As an ex-smoker, it reduces your strategic thinking, and heightens your reliance on muscle memory and pure act as you see. Doesn't improve shit. I've been taking league more seriously and been clean for 5 months, have improved greatly.

In sweden the adhd-doctor calls some of your teachers and explain the symtoms you claim to see if they are correct and you take like 3 tests where they can see how your brain works or some shit, they also krep count on how many you take out and when you need to refill.

I don't think 'habitual' is the word for describing somebody who smokes weed all the time and can't perform without it, that would be an addiction. Doesn't matter how light or harmless of a drug it is. Otherwise great points as usual.

Based on what I have read marijuana does not improve performance, but people who use it feel like they perform better. Performance stays relatively the same. What I have read on ADHD has been less clear cut and whether it actually helps is debatable. I didn't do extensive research so take this with a grain of salt.

in germany adhd was a big thing in the mid 2000 as well as. sddendly everybody was on retalin (same drug).

personal experince:weed does increase your performance ingame by a noticeable amount,but after a certain point you ll play like a bot.its a double edged sword imo.

This is why the debate on performance enhancing drugs is fruitless. Adderall is not illegal and can be prescribed to those who need it. Is it ok to do it if you do need it (for those with ADD/ADHD)? What about nootropics? What about taking t3 (codeine) to ease your mind during a stressful LAN event? Is getting tipsy ok? It's pointless arguing. It's impossible to know 100% if the person is doing drugs for their health or if they are healthy already and abusing drugs. Besides, adderall abuse is nowhere the same as steroid abuse as if you aren't smart/talented to begin with, you're not gonna be competitive at all

heck, taking daily doses of vitamins improves your behaviour, but not as much since those are just regular chemical we take everyday from food, but with more special chemical that aren't found in food in large doses, those things are prescribed by a doctor, since for people who do not have a certain disorder, taking certain medication can actually hinder them altho, since the NA scene is nowehere near as pro as the EU scene....i'd say this isnt really an issue

A lot of my friends love to smoke weed while they play and they rave about how they are so much better when they are high while playing. Honestly, I have tried it before but I need to have a clear train of thought to make the right decisions in game and being high while I play only clouds my mind and I can't focus on doing certain tasks. When I play when I am high someone will call a strat and I will be holding a section of the map but then all of a sudden I will daze off and being a player that loves to make plays and win I think it gets in the way of that. Aderall I don't really know again, a lot of my friends have played while on aderall and they say it makes them beast, almost like being on cocaine you just hit shots like crazy and you are super hyper active. I kind of want to try aderall for that reason but I don't want to face the side effects that come with that.

as thorin said weed would only "help" people that smoke daily, or are high a majority of the time they play. If a more uncommon weed user smoked before a match they would surely be handicapped by the effects of marijuana.

wobbly868 I agree, However as a smoker myself i feel like i play better about 30 mins after a joint, i dont feel very high anymore and wont be thinking of smoking another one. On a side note, i used to do speed and man im not lying when i say i would 30 bomb most of the games if i had a team that spoke English.

Went 10 days played 2 games a day of CS:GO with out smoking weed. Then I went 10 days in a row while smoking a few bowls before each match again 2 a day of CS:GO. My higher score average of those 20 games was higher when I was higher I guess lol. Not much of a good test I know. But just my POV.

I dont think adderall should be allowed even if you have a script for it. Not very hard to get one and it makes a big difference in reaction time.

from experience smoking weed can help some and not others. Some people when they smoke weed go into that relaxed ''can't give a single fuck'' mood. Others go into that extreme multitasking mood where they can quickly think about multiple things at the same time. If you're that kind of person it helps, trust me.
