Odin prob gave him that impression intentionally, to 'keep his own nose clean' Thor should know the difference between a kid who really doesn't know what's up and whose only motive is defense, and the guy who was always an arsehole and manipulator and how that guy operates by now. I mean from Thor's perspective it's incredibly disrespectful and nuts to allow Atreus to just carry on and involve himself with his family after everything that happened. However, Thor should not direct his fury towards him, but instead his father, who is orchestrating the whole thing.

​@@Joetheknight406 Truth. In their first appearance, Thor offers mead, but doesn't drink any himself, since he's still trying to go sober for Sif. Odin is visibly trying to encourage him to drink the entire time - since Thor would do most of his fighting while drunk, Odin is trying to get his weapon primed to go should the conversation with Kratos go south.

I wonder if Sif tried to get rid of Atreus, not because of the death of her kids but to allow him to escape Odin's grasp. Since that didn't work, she tried having Thor confront his father but he's too dumb to realize what she meant.

To be fair, Odin would've had that mask earlier if Thor hadn't lost his shit on Atreus. So, Thor technically prevented his father from having what he wanted.
