@@reactswithjax It's not that hard, really. Think "myole-near". Like "mole near", but with a 'y' after the 'm'. That gets you pretty close, probably close enough. And the "near" part is shortened slightly, more like "nir". "Mjolnir", with two dots over the 'o'. The 'j' is pronounced like a 'y'. As in "jotun" - frost giant. Or Johann. Or hallelujah.

@@HarborKat that was Erik Masterson, who was much later. In the very first Thor story, Dr. Donald Blake, who was a skinny guy with a limp, finds a cane-like stick and when he smacks it on the ground, he becomes Thor. Kind of a Billy Batson Shazam situation. After a while, that became confusing when it was apparent that Thor was clearly a real person and not just some identity that Blake becomes. So, they retconned Blake into actually being Thor. Turns out Odin made him a weak human with no memory of being Thor when he bannished him. After a while, Thor stopped changing back to Donald Blake and just stayed Thor all the time.

My thoughts on "worthy". It's not simply valor, or humility, or kindness, or purity of intent. If it was that simple, Cap would have been able to lift the hammer on his first try. Worthiness, in the context of Odin's geas, means all of the above plus the wisdom of a king. A king puts their people first, always. If it comes down to a contest between ego and the good of their people, the true king always sets aside their ego. Steve Rogers showed that wisdom when he pretended to be a Hydra agent in Endgame. He could have KO'd the entire lift full of men and taken the Stone, but he swallowed his pride, put his ego aside, and smiled at people who were his enemies, pretending to be the thing he hated most for the good of the world. That's why, next time he tried, Mjolnir found him worthy. Vision, the other 'worthy' Avenger, is a sentient able to set aside their ego for what they calculate to be the common good. That's why he was able to lift the hammer moments after being 'born'. I'm curious if, after experiencing love and life for awhile, and developing a stronger sense of self he would still be able to lift Mjolnir.

Lastly, I just wanna say that I am absolutely ecstatic about how much you're paying close attention to the big picture and trying to link everything together from previous movies. All the talking points you mentioned after the post-credits scene about the origins of the Tesseract to Red Skull trying to use it to harness the power of the gods to Howard Stark eventually finding it and being a founding member of SHIELD are the exact type of things you wanna keep in mind while going down this MCU journey. O cognate with Owe. So, here's some basic tips for knowing what to do when you read letters that have inflections like an umlaut (double dot) on them. The ö sound means more like look than Loki. The J is half silent, a Y sound as with Fjord, or Bjorn. So It's Mjool-nir, and the Nir part doesn't require you show your teeth when you make the I sound.

The blue boxy thing is "The Casket of Ancient Winters" in the comics. It was broken open in 1983 or so and plunged the entire world into a horrifically deep winter. Most of the heroes in the Marvel Universe had to cooperate to find the pieces and reassemble it, and to fight off the strengthened Frost Giants who took advantage of the situation. IIRC, it was Spider-Man and the Human Torch (from the Fantastic Four) who eventually got it reassembled and closed. It is very cold to the touch, which is probably part of the reason it briefly turned Loki blue in this film.
@THEREALSCRAPPY8 ай бұрын
Didn't Loki turn blue briefly because of him being unaffected by the Frost Giants' cold touch, due to his heritage?
@tommc49168 ай бұрын
@@THEREALSCRAPPY Yes, in this film. But I don't recall him ever coming into contact with it in print continuity. All three of the Thor films borrow heavily from the Walt Simonsen writing/art era of about 40 years ago, but the MCU scriptwriters throw enough change-ups to keep even us olden-time fanbois guessing. In the comics, it was accidentally broken open when the Dark Elf king Malekith (cf: Thor, The Dark World) was fooling around with it. The Asgardians didn't ever have it in their possession. IIRC.

Another lovely video! It's great to see that you're brave enough to be making predictions -- and a joy to see when you're proven right. Congratulations on figuring out that the Tesseract was in Fury's case. Even having watched "Captain America" first, that wasn't necessarily an easy guess to make. And you're right that outer space and other worlds are going to play a BIG part in the MCU moving forward. But the Nine Realms aren't the totality of space; they don't even include all inhabited worlds. Those are just the planets that are under Odin's protectorate. More will be revealed before long! Since others have explained about Mjolnir, I'll offer a few notes about the Bifrost. Ancient Norse people seemed to believe that the rainbow was a bridge between Midgard (Earth) and Asgard (the gods' realm). That's why it's so beautifully coloured in the movie -- as Thor said, it's the Rainbow Bridge. Also, Jane identifies it with an Einstein-Rosen bridge, which is a kind of wormhole -- theoretically a gateway allowing swift travel between distant points in space.

That makes so much sense that the 9 realms are what Thor knows of, but that there is more to it than that. I can't wait to see more of this universe. I love that the Rainbow Bridge has roots in Norse mythology! Thanks for sharing that! ❤️

Tønsberg, Norway featured in several movies in the MCU. It was where Odin and the Asgard warriors defeated the Frost Giants. It was where Johann Schmidt, a.k.a. Red Skull, found the Tesseract at the beginning of Captain America: The First Avenger. It’s where Odin goes to join Frigga in Valhalla in Thor: Ragnarök. It’s where New Asgard exists in Avengers: Endgame.

Hi Jax! Another great reaction/review. I love to see your wheels turning as you uncover more and more about the Marvel saga! I look forward to watching the rest of the saga with you. Feel free to wear that cap and outfit, It looks great on you! PS. I thought the answer to the lamb question was, "Lambchop" !!! hahaha Thanks again.

Since you're so easily distracted by food (the pie did look tasty) and also a fan of romantic fantasy like "Once Upon a Time" I *highly* recommend checking out the brilliant but short-lived (only two seasons) series "Pushing Daises". It's hilarious- I think you'll get a real kick out of that show! FYI it's a spin-off of the series "Dead Like Me", which is more of a dark comedy. Both are excellent, so I suggest adding them to your list of things to react to- or your polls where Patreon peeps can vote for things to watch ;)

Loved both of those shows, especially Pushing Daisies - I never knew PD was a spin off!

I have both sets on DVD on my bookshelf. Loved watching them, but never made the connection between them.
@neospock5034 Жыл бұрын
@@grumpy_older_man the spinoff status is unofficial, but I read PD was originally pitched as an episode of DLM... There was going to be an episode where the Reapers couldn't do their jobs because Ned had shown up and done his thing.
@reactswithjax Жыл бұрын
I never knew those two shows were connected! I've actually seen both and they were so good! There's a restaurant near where I live called The Pie Hole, just like Ned's in PD, and it's delicious.

Two possibly interesting facts: 1. In historical Norse mythology. Loki is actually Odin's "blood brother" - they ritually cut themselves and mingle their blood, so they are considered related, even though they aren't really. Sif is actually Thor's wife, and has golden hair, not black - it's literally made of gold. Heimdall does not have the power to see everything, but Odin does, when he sits on his "All-Seeing Throne". The "Warriors Three" those three sidekicks of Thor's, were made up for the comic book, and don't actually exist in historical mythology. They are loosely based on characters from Shakespeare's Henry V. Loki, like many of the frost giants ("jotuns"), has powers of illusion. There are many other Norse gods that are included in the Thor comic books, but not in the movies (at least so far). 2. The tesseract was originally called the "cosmic cube" in the comic books, but "tesseract" is a much cooler name. And it actually means something - it's not just a made-up word. A tesseract is the four-dimensional analog of a cube. Going up in dimensions: a square is two-dimensional, a cube is three-dimensional, and a tesseract is four-dimensional. Five and higher dimensional cubes don't have their own special names, and are just called hypercubes. A tesseract can be called a "four-dimensional hypercube", or it can be shortened to "four-cube".

Wow! That's awesome backstory! Thank you for sharing that. The Shakespearian influence really shined through in the way the Asgardians spoke. That's so cool that the Tesseract actually means something. I can't wait to see what it actually is!

If you watch the end credits during the zooming through space, you can actually see the Yggdrasil tree. The camera zooms out then zooms in and ascend it from the roots to the highest branches.

First LOVE your content! 😍An something I think a lot of people overlook is that without that moment when Loke told Thor "Father is dead" Thor my never have changed. It is in that moment when he is told he can never come home and he is truly broken, that he is able to really change as a person. So I don't think Loke knows he is the reason Thor is worthy. P.S. Has anyone ever told you that you look EXACTLY like Jessica Biel ❤
@reactswithjax Жыл бұрын
Thank you! I'm so glad you enjoyed the reaction! I agree that Loki's conversation with Thor changed him for the better. Although, I'm sure Loki would hate to think that he had any positive impact on his brother becoming worthy. ❤ And thank you, Jessica Biel is a lovely lady!

It's a simple process: I see Reacts With Jax and an MCU movie, I click "like"....and then I watch it. 😁 You have now finished the origin movies of "the big three" Avengers (Cap, Iron Man, Thor), and I think all three were close to perfection. The three of them have a great scene in the early moments of The Avengers that ends with an iconic visual; I know you'll love it. Your reactions continue to be absolutely delightful, your insights on the characters and the expanding MCU are spot-on, and your meme game (especially The Office) continues to be top tier. Also, you shared a universal truth: if there's a bonfire, there have to be s'mores. 😋 For those of you who have never tried a s'more with a Reese's peanut butter cup in place of the chocolate, it will change your life. Thanks Jax! (And Lambie.) I cannot wait for your Avengers reaction!! 😊

First, I want to say you are beautiful and appreciate your natural beauty. I have an affinity for anyone that enjoys Thor comic, movies or Mythology. My childhood was spent in Norway. My Father raised me on Norwegian folk lore. My favorites stories; Soria Moria Castle, the blue belt, the Three Billy-Goats Gruff, and all the adventures of Thor. My favorite cartoon movie was Valhalla. Can't wait to watch all your reactions of Thor movies. My favorite quotes from you on your reactions "He's got some game, flirting with the smart girl by giving her a book." lol. "That pie looked so good." Thanks for the Thor reaction. ME-YOL-NEAR. Just say that fast and there you have it, Mjolnir.

I was getting worried about you, because you kinda got obsessed with pitch meetings. Stick with movies! And TV! There are some fantastic series you could react to!
