@langleymneely2 жыл бұрын
I think the disconnect with Jane as Thor is purposeful. She’s just as empty and searching for meaning as Thor. She’s putting on the personality of a hero because she doesn’t know what that really means. She’s barely been Thor long enough to fully understand or figure out who she is. The bad catchphrases and uneasy showiness of her walking with her ex boyfriend, the HERO of Asgard, felt like a purposeful characterization not a mistake. There are multiple layers at play with Jane, the cancer, being Thor, seeing Odinson again, trying to figure out what is her legacy after death? I think all of that is of a piece.
@VAN1SH9152 жыл бұрын
You nailed it 100%. I had no attachment to her from the other movies at all but I love Jane Foster in this. She was conflicted about her situation. She was hurting but also putting up a front and absolutely sold being sick/weak. Her death caught me off guard but I feel that's one of the strongest scenes in a while. I really liked Thor professing his love and how they'll deal with the cancer together but it not mattering because Jane is the one with Cancer so it isn't Odinson's choice. It was Jane's and she chose to go out on her own terms. Not Odinsons. Not Darcys. Not the cancers. Also I don't think we always need to see training montages to understand that these characters are capable of learning to be a hero. We didn't need to see Cap train with Mjolnir for us to believe it so why is it different for Jane.
@TheFlash-rh2el2 жыл бұрын
It’s strange how the villain of this film was a symbol of white supremacy yet in this film, the character who was most important, was overshadowed by Thor, a white dude lacking any kind of story of his own. Your theory has to be wrong because all three characters are conflicted by the same thing. A lack of place, a lack of purpose, potential death. The only different is that Thor has Jane’s insuring death and not his own, unlike Gore, who is closer to Jane. But again… Thor is the main character of the film despite him being less important that the two other characters in the trifecta given. And what I have said about the characters is true because the film physically describes them as such multiple times.

This movie felt like a business trip where you get through all your work as fast as you can then go out and spend the companies money on fun shit. It felt like the Taika Waititi got the bag and said "aye y'all we going to shoot all the part of the movie we need to make a movie. The intro, the drama, the exposition, yada yada yada. Then we are going to just have a fucking blast after that. It felt the cast was having a blast. But that fun didn't translate to me as well. For me it felt like watching someone else play a game as opposed to playing the game with them. Taika got his shit off on this movie. Any little artsy thing he wanted to do that could fit in his budget and not totally ruin the vibe of the he did it. This movie felt so experimental and coming after Ragnarok that kinda grates on expectations of what this movie was supposed to be. It sort of rest expectations as now I can't wait for the next Thor movie so all the stuff T.W. figures out in this movie can be executed in the next movie. It also show me that the studio being controlling over these properties has its place, as this movie would have been a lot better if T.W. could have been rein and constrained a bit. 7/10 for me. This is phenomenal Disney plus movie, but it's just a good Theater movie.

@@dillonjose1318 it's not even really about the humour to me. With Guardians 1 and Ragnarok, I enjoy them for what they are and have fun but I feel absolutely zero emotion from them. As messy as Guardians 2 and Love and Thunder are, the final scenes really hit me. I'll take a messy film all day if it gets me to the point of how I felt seeing Thor with a daughter at the end. That feeling instantly makes those films top tier to me and I can overlook stuff that doesn't work for me earlier on. I would take that experience any day over the standard MCU stuff which is structured well and hits all the beats it's supposed to but leave me feeling nothing but a vague sense of enjoyment at the end. Honestly, I feel the same way about IW and Endgame. They're both pretty messy films in a lot of ways with awkward moments and odd decisions made that aren't to my taste, but they each have really powerful stuff in them, particularly the endings, that make them more than the sum of their parts.

I felt absolutely no emotion whatsoever from anything in Ragnarok. I liked the parallel between Thor losing out on all that time without Jane because he was scared of being vulnerable, with Jane choosing to be vulnerable and spend time actually doing something rather than spend the time she has left in hospital, knowing she won't survive anyway. I feel like this was missing a subplot where Gorr is hunting down gods and then somehow learns about eternity. Instead, the necrosword immediately tells him to go to eternity, and I have no idea why he bothers hunting any of the gods individually rather than looking for Thor and getting the bifrost... I think this would've allowed for some more Gorr screen time and character development. Ultimately though, I think he's a great dark villain but he doesn't fit into the very comedic tone of this. EDIT: Also this overall just had too many children. When are filmmakers going to realize that 99% of children suck ass at acting? Lots of very cringey dialogue that amounted to "If you are brave everything will be fine" The child soldier thing was also a bit weird.

while i can appreciate what Taika brought to the Thor movies, mainly through his humor, I just feel it's a pity that that happened at the expense of Thor's more significant stories that did need more of the dramatic tone to them. Hela and Gorr would have made iconic villains to Thor at the level of Loki (in Thor and The Avengers), Thanos, Killmonger and Vulture...BUT, because, as Tim said, they had to take a backseat to the humorous tone Taika's bringing to the franchise, they both got kinda shortchanged. i hope, SOMEHOW, they can bring them back once they've kinda course corrected Thor to just the sweet spot he was in Infinity War and beginning of Endgame. I like the movie, but, it just felt SO light weight..and considering it was telling Jane's cancer story and Gorr butchering gods (which we didn't get to see enough of)...that shouldn't've been the case.
