On paper this film shouldn't work, it has everything stacked against it: huge number of villians, multiple plot threads, large cast etc. I am so impressed with how they stuck the landing in this film and gave closure, not just for the MCU spider-man films, but to Spider-man franchise across the board. All I can say for this film is “finally.” This was the MCU Spidey movie I’ve been begging for. Finally, some emotional depth and maturity that’s been lacking from this iteration. Jon Watts stepped it up in every way. MCU Spidey finally has some amazing and memorable action scenes. The Goblin fight scenes were so visceral, brutal, horrific, and just left me in awe. The goddamn score!! I like Holland’s theme because it recreates the classic theme, but before now they never used it in this epic, operatic way similar to Elfman’s score that just continued to give me chills. The fucking Spider-men was a dream come true. I couldn’t believe the movie I was watching was real. The dialogue between them is so effortless, organic, and so emotional that it brought me to tears. The details is what made it for me, like Tobey saying the Chrysler building is his place to escape (from the first movie after Ben passed). Each character from the past was brought back in such a great way, with actual arcs rather than gloried cameos and fan service. This film is an absolute love letter to Spider-Man and I cannot believe it exists.

@thomcich30963 жыл бұрын
I think Electro not knowing Garfield’s face but being affected by the spell is likely explained by Electro’s team up with Harry in ASM2. Harry could’ve told him Spidey was Peter Parker (maybe even on screen, I don’t remember) and that wouldn’t really mean much to Max, nor would he know what he looks like.

Very subtle Easter Eggs I found: Tom webbing cars to the bridge like in ASM1 Tom has a cut on his cheek that looks like Tobey’s scar in the end fight. Tom has his hair styled like Andrews when he takes his mask off several times. Tobey and Andrew talking about how their relationships are complicated is a callback to Peter and Harry talking in ASM2 about how dating and Peter’s life in general is complicated. Andrew Vs Tobey might be a reference to that ASM2 ad where there’s a reflection of Spider-Man in a window that’s a Chibi Spider-Man that mimics him, but obviously the pointing meme works too. They also use more orchestral choir and horn for Tom’s spider-man theme when Tobey and Andrew joined as a way to add their theme elements to his, which I hope they carry forward.

I just want to know who the fuck threw that brick, weren't they on like the 4th-5th floor or something like that? Because that thing came flying through the window like they were on the ground level.

The subtext that the peters are also destined to die if sent back to their universe is fascinating. Both of them don’t get “cured” physically in any way, but rather their mental health. Both get to do something they need to do to move on and keep growing and living. Like all the villains apparently appeared right before their death and those peters weren’t so old. Obviously the actors are the age they are but it still ends up meaning something.

If Strange can delete the memory of Peter from people’s brains, as well as purging every physical evidence of his existence (phone texts, school records, JJJ’s news reports) from the entire world, why didn’t he delete the memory of the Infinity Stones from Thanos?

I am blown away and cannot wait to see this movie again (and again!). Holy shit. They delivered on all fronts. So many emotional moments, highs and lows, darkness and humor, Easter eggs, meme references, fan service, total payoffs decades in the making... I am astounded. To be able to bring back characters from other films and demonstrate true character development within the framework of the MCU is an absolute master class in storytelling. And the moment where Andrew Garfield rescues MJ had me crying. Wow.

I gotta say, the writers fixed the complaint that people had with this Spider-Man. "Spider-Man doesn't really struggle because he's got Stark Industries helping him." Well, now he's on his own, literally. No Stark tech, no connections, not even any friends.

Also, a throwback to Thor, I believe it was him that said that there is no such thing as magic, just science that's much more advanced than humans had achieved right? So for Peter to see the math/science behind the magic and manipulate seems cool as hell.

I LOVED the nod to the common saying that Garfield is the best Spiderman and Toby is the best Peter. When Ned uses magic to say "show me Spiderman", it goes to Andrew. "Show me Peter Parker" goes to Tobey. I'm sure that was intentional but even if not, I enjoyed it Edit: sooo... this is embarrassing but just rewatched, and ya... this didn't happen. Both times Ned says show me Peter Parker. Sorry! Funny how the brain works in superfans...

I swear people who think Tobey is the best Peter have never read a Spider-Man comic. Peter was NEVER as dopey as Tobey, not even in the 60's or 70's.
@stanco4ever3 жыл бұрын
@@DrPantsMD i don't think people that say that mean that he was the most accurate comic book rep, more that they just liked that version of Peter Parker. Im not in that camp, my touchstone to Spiderman was the early 90s show where Peter was a 6'3 220lb jock. I just enjoyed the nod to people that do feel that way about Tony and Andrew

It's 100% true though, we wouldn't have any of these movies (the MCU and the modern superhero landscape in general, let alone Spiderman movies) if not for Avi Arad convincing studios to invest hundreds of millions of dollars not just into any superhero movie (like Blade or X-Men before it), but comic accurate ones that wear their source material on their sleeve, and end up becoming the biggest success to boot. Kevin Feige didn't decide to start/try the MCU till after Avi Arad proved what was possible with Spiderman, it is single handlely responsible for damn near everything, whether we want to like it/admit it or not. It took decades of turndowns, bad scripts, unfaithful approaches, etc before 2002 finally happened, and the same thing has already been happening for a long time with the Metal Gear Solid movie, his next big goal in properly translating a video game adaptation to the screen, of which he too will get a lot of big credit for not letting that get messed up and helping the shift for video games. It is not to say that he's perfect or anything, he obviously was responsible for making Raimi have Venom in Spiderman 3 as well as a rushed Sinister Six side-plot setup in Amazing 2, but when it comes to the behind the scenes historical impact of certain specific people, Feige and many others have laudedly regarded him as the top dog Hollywood "believer" or "fighter" for getting us to the kinds of things we want to see happen. Even those first comic movies like X-Men and Blade were low budget and/or afraid to embrace their comic heritage, even if their success helped Avi's arguments for convincing Sony on Spiderman, it was still hella risk and lots of money, and it inspired Feige to take the risk to that next level with a shared universe. This is why Kojima gave/attached his MGS movie to Avi Arad, to make sure the creative integrity of the IP isn't rushed/compromised, regardless of how long it may take. This movie put hella RESPECT on Avi's name and the salt here is real since the credits were done by Marvel Studios and most likely probably Feige's idea, not anyone from Sony. The movie itself pays so much homage both literally and metaphorically to Sony's older movies, there’s a clear love and respect for them from Marvel regardless of how anyone feels about em. Tom's Peter goes from looking up to and modeling himself after MCU characters to molding himself after his 2 Sony predecessors, and its the most true Spiderman we've gotten so far in the MCU.

The movie was absolutely amazing, but honestly i was depressed for like a day after I saw it; i understand the soft reset for friendly neighborhood spiderman, but damn, loses his aunt, gets erased from memory, chooses not to connect with the last two people that truly love him, basically is left a lonely orphan living under a slum lord without even a high school diploma, the last few minutes left me feeling so down.

Tim you are so so SOOO damn right that the strange spidey fight is gonna be so underated becuase of all the crazy stuff in this movie. Just crossed my mind for the next stage in Parker's life. What if, in the next triology, Peter sees Ed and MJ visiting NYC as an actual couple now. A bit like how Peter saw Betty in the old Stan Lee run. Peter has moved on and so have they. An acknowledging that people and things change, by Peter, that helps him move on and grow a bit more as a person.
