Marvel needs to hire Michael Vogel, ASAP. His insights about the ending of Thor: Love and Thunder as it relates to Gorr is spot on. They way he framed how he would’ve set-up the end scene with Eternity is a way more believable outcome with Gorr’s decision. Great Geek Buddies discussion as always.

You can't take two very serious story arcs from the comics but then feel like you have to lean heavy into the comedy for the movie to be successful. It doesn't work. I would say that the movie some of the best visuals I've ever seen in the MCU and every actor was awesome in their role but I really hated the way Zeus was portrayed. Very disappointing.

As a long time Thor/Loki and all things Asgardian stan, I 100% felt like Michael while I was in the theater and afterwards. I realize they shot scenes with the Grandmaster , Etrie the Dwarf, and an unknown (worth a reported $7M paycheck) role played by Lena Heady. Were these god figures slain by Gorr? If so, they well could have given more teeth to selling him as a “God Butcher.”

Gorr WAS dying - when he fights Natalie Portman in the black and white planet scene he says I can see you’re dying, just like me, or something to that effect (when he looks into her eyes) - so he DOES draw the parallel between him and Jane that Rocha is talking about.

That is right -it doesn't make sense Stormbreaker is in cave painting if it was just created not long ago. It should be Mjolnir (for energy or something) or Helmdall or Helmdall Jr (transportational power) as the key. Or even have Thor sacrifice himself so Gorr can't take Stormbreaker and leave the rescue to Mighty Thor and Valkyrie, it might make a interesting movie, but people might complain that is like the new Master Of The Universe where Prince Adam was taken out early on. But it might help with some of the logistical issues and more screen time with Mighty Thor and Valkyrie. Also, at the end, I don't think Thor changed Gorr's mind. it's just he mentioned he can wish to kill all the gods or bring back his daughter. Even though his daughter is his motive, I don't think he ever thought about bringing her daughter back to life. But again, all these wishing powers is very confusing like with Wonder Woman 84 or Spiderman -what are the rules? They can get silly really quick.

@ShellsGhost12 жыл бұрын
I don't think Gor gave up his hatred in the end. He spent the entire movie watching Thor be an actual Hero. And when he sees Thor choose love over hatred, he recognizes that his own love was stronger than his hatred. Because to suggest otherwise would actually dishonor his daughter. Life isn't about destroying what you hate it's about saving what you love. He saw that play out, and he took his one opportunity to save his daughter and give her the life he never could. Also, with Jane in the MCU she was all about saving everyone. It's why she convinced Thor to actually save people. Once she had the power of Thor and the fact that when she didn't have the hammer, she could barely stand, of course, she'd keep using it. Also, in the comics, it's dumb. Radiation kills cancer while you're exposed. It's not a tonic that lingers and can be washed out of you. The hammer saving her and making her stronger makes sense. The fact that she's mortal and can't handle the power of the gods also makes sense. I liked this movie more than Ragnorak. This immediately lets you know what kind of movie this was, and the goats kept reminding me of that all the way through. And the quality of the performances still let the drama hit me.

Examples of Thor being dumb: 1) Destroying the sacred temple and barely noticing when he was supposed to be there to save the temple 2) Forgetting the word for "afraid." 3) Summoning the Bifrost in the middle of a crowded building 4) Giving a speech about eating children to the parents of missing children 5) Literally acting so generally dumb that the children he was saving didn't want his help anymore. 6) Trying to use his cape as a disguise 7) Summoning the axe when the bad guy is acting him to summon the axe 8) Using the axe to summon the Bifrost right next to the same bad guy. 9) Not doing anything to stop the newly de-powered bad guy from entering the gate to Eternity

This movie worked for me on an emotional level more than the badass superhero stuff There was so much to Thor than just being goofy.....he knew what he needed to do, he was OP and after loosing everything and trying to find new purpose he found love, first in Jane and then in a little girl......yeah, the quipy fun elements are still in him but that's what people loved from his character in Ragnarok compared to the broody and sadistic Thor from Thor 1 and 2
@ZachBobBob2 жыл бұрын
Really great discussion as always. Wish Shannon was here but hey ho. On the why Jane was doing what she did front I think she knew it was over for her being stage 4 and figured being Thor would let her go out with a bang. She could help save the galaxy and have some fun being strong and powerful again instead of just wasting away in a hospital bed doing nothing for herself or anyone else.

At the beginning when Gorr first gets the necrosword it tells him the bifrost is the key to Eternity, not stormbreaker. Stormbreaker opens the bifrost, that is why he needed stormbreaker. Thunderbolt and Valkyries Horse can get them to the gates of eternity, not into eternity. Only stormbreaker’s bifrost can do that.
@jmartin43962 жыл бұрын
Zeus' lightning bolt and the Pegasus didn't take them to Eternity. They took them to the "door" to Eternity. Stormbreaker was the key to that door.

Thor was intentionally dumb in this one because he was detaching himself from reality. He had a lot of depression he was compartmentalizing. People do this in real life. It took Jane coming back and her story to make Thor whole again. I didn't need more Gorr. What would the purpose be for more Gorr? We know walking in he is gonna lose. Why prolong it?. Loved the movie! Probably my favorite Thor film. Admittedly, I don't enjoy Ragnarok as much as most others (and oddly a number of the problems I see being lobbed at this movie are complaints I have about that one), so I was going into this one a little worried and maybe those lower expectations helped. But having seen it three times now, I enjoy it more and more. It's not without its problems, of course. I agree that it was a bit too short and the weaker first act would have been well served by seeing more of Gorr's butchering and the beginning of Jane's time as Thor and friendship with Val (which I take to mean that even when I disagree with Mike, I kind of agree with Mike). Not all of the jokes land (I only laughed at the goats once, and if I never see that Asgardian theatre troupe again I'll be as happy as a dead warrior in Valhalla), but the emotional and action beats all did for me, especially in the second and third acts. I was deeply satisfied by the end (enough to warrant two more non-nap based viewings. ;) ) and excited to see where things go for Thor, "Love" (who I think may wind up being the MCU's version of Singularity from A-Force based on her reflection), Val, Jane (who becomes a Valkyrie in the comics, so I would not be mad at a demigod buddy cup duo with those two), Korg, Herc, and even Lady Sif and Axel (give me a Disney+ show called Journey Into Mystery of her with a cyborg arm training him and meeting another more horse faced cybernetically enhanced space Viking named Beta Ray Bill along the way and I'll forgive never getting a Warriors Three show. ;) )! Also, I for one have been loving Phase 4 so far (Multiverse of Madness aside, and even that had some things I liked), so I'm not worried about the direction of the universe. Just keep showing me the planets in their orbits and the direction will reveal itself in time! As for rankings: -Shang-Chi -No Way Home -Eternals/Love and Thunder (can't decide between them, so they're tied for now) -Black Widow -everyone's performances in Multiverse of Madness -most of the visuals in Multiverse of Madness -whatever's still left over from Multiverse of Madness 😜

This movie suffers from the same thing Dr. Strange 2 suffers from imo. It need more scenes in-between to link everything together better. Why not include a scene of asking Valkyrie if she's aware of anything that might help her condition? Why not show the villain actually slaying a god? I didn't seem capable of killing that huge beast from what we saw of him lol. Why not have a moment showing why Jane decided to be one Thor one last time knowing she will die? She wanted to live the entire time that why she went for the hammer.. what made her comfortable dying? Also what was the point of Valkyrie implying that she's "team Jane"? Her relationship with Jane seemed clearly friendly. I know it shouldn't matter but it made me wonder if they were including random LGBT stuff just to please a crowd.
