Fun fact: Thorfinn is 5'1. We don't know why exactly, but probably the stress and trauma he went through growing up, and how he had an unbalanced nutrition. It is implied he fed himself and mostly ate small prey. And he's 19 here btw. A year has passed since last season.

Actually thorfinn is small bc yukimara is small as well and never found any mc that was small like him which made him a bit insecure growing up so he wanted to make thorfinn small like him in order to create that mc he wanted to see as a child

Vinland is the only anime that's ever made me cry, that season 1 finale made it nearly impossible not to. But season 2 CONSISTENLY made me sob my eyes out. Because of that, Vinland without a doubt is the best anime I've ever seen.

In S1 Leif was also looking for Thorfinn among a slaves and the guy that was with him told him something along the lines of "we don't have the money to free every slave we come across" so I'm guessing is a similar case here, that's why he apologised to Einar, he only has the money to buy one slave and he's ofc gonna save it for Thorfinn.

Canute demoted Thorfinn to a slave as punishment. As a ruler and royal, Canute could not overlook someone who had turned their blade against him. Normally, injuring royalty would warrant the harshest sentence of death. However, considering that Canute owed Thorfinn for the loss of Askeladd and the bond they shared from their time together, he likely opted to demote him to a slave out of compassion.

I believe the timeskip is only about a year, if that. He looks different because of "reasons" and also because he's been a slave for awhile - he went through some shit and did a lot of physical labor different than just being an assassin for askeladd. Anyway, I also noticed that you have a pretty good insight into a lot of what this series is, and I'm excited to see how you experience perhaps the best arc in manga/anime history

The intro with the motobikes is not for MAPPA but for the Twin Engine company which is the company producing the Vinland Saga anime (basically the one financing it), they had that same intro in the dvd/blu-ray version of the first season too but instead of MAPPA you'd have WIT STUDIO. Also the intro monologue was actually in Icelandic language

Also Thorfinn became a slave because he attacked the new king, he had no choice. Canute had mercy on him as much as he possibly could. To the people of these countries at this time, somebody who attacked a king would typically be doomed to a death sentence. But Canute gave him mercy by instead forcing him into slavery...yeah, not THAT much of a mercy, but he just didn't want to condemn him to death and instead give him SOME sort of a shot at being able to live

canute didnt have much choice, it was already kind of weak for him to not kill thorfinn, but he did the best he could.

Vinland Saga Season 2. Farmland Saga. Peakland Saga. Known by many names, all are cent percent true. The motorcycle intro was originally WIT Studio and we saw it for the entirety of Season I think. It was a nice callback by MAPPA who did the same lol. Idk why it didn’t appear in your S1 videos. The initial “Carve it” sequence was not Japanese. The creators had contacted the Embassy of Iceland in Japan and sought help to add these lines in the show. Pretty cool and goes to show how much they care about making it as good as possible. I think one year has passed since he became a slave after the events of Askeladd’s death. He attacked Canute and the standard procedure is capital punishment but Canute showed mercy and didn’t let him be killed. Letting him off as a slave was basically the best that could have been done for him. 23:48 The fact that you manage to do all of this awesome work while being in such conditions makes us appreciate you even more. Keep up the good work!

Its never explicity said until the end of this season, Canute decided to "spare" Thorfinn by making him a slave for slashing his face instead of just executing him.

@@flamebull5 I wouldn't really call it a spoiler as its never really addressed except that one line and by the time its said its not really relevant. The time gap between the seasons is also never really addressed so I don't see the issue with clarification

Agreed, not a spoiler. The timejump leaves a few questions open that you have to fill in with common sense, which is hard, if you have no reference as to how severe an attack on the regent is. It's not a great mystery anyhow.

Just a bit of technical info if people haven't already told you... So yeah, Mappa took over the production of Vinland from Wit studio, but they essentially brought over the same crew to work on it, with a few new additions. There is an obvious change in the art style, designs, and coloration, but it is still great. This team of animators is god tier, and i'm so happy they're sticking to the project, and that Mappa renewed it for a full 24 episode 2nd season, instead of being cheapskates. Wit has been slammed recent years, and it has been hard for them to stay with these bigger productions due to still being a smaller studio, and also the production companies are being assholes. The motorcycle intro is the production company Twin Engine, and the bike riders are the execs. This intro was in season 1 as well, but some streaming services didn't include it.

Unfortunately Einer can't just decide for himself if he wants to join Leif. It's a slave market, meaning the slave merchants is selling Einer. They wouldn't have any business if they just sold all their slaves for whatever price the slaves want. They have to sell their slaves at the highest price they can get away with, to earn on their business. Just like any other business. It's not a charity. Leif can't buy anyone he comes across, slaves are expensive. I like your reactions, good insight and all. Just saying why this part wouldn't make sense. Never mind, you addressed it already.

At the end of season 1, Thorfinn tried to kill Prince Knut. He was almost sentenced to death. But Prince Knut forbade him to kill Thorfinn. So, as a minimum punishment, he was made a slave. Both Einar and Thorfinn were put on the slave market as commodities. You also said that Thorfinn looks old. That's because, in addition to the passage of years, he has lost his purpose in life and his passion for revenge, and has completely lost the will to live. Anyway, the first half of season 2 progresses very quietly and slowly. Many impatient anime fans say they don't like it because there is no flashy action. But if you watch this season to the end, you will see the incredible value that slow silence gives to the story. I couldn't stop crying throughout the second half of the season. Season 2 is the story of Thorfinn's enlightenment and rebirth. Season 1 is made perfect by season 2. I hope you enjoy this masterpiece until the end.
