What i love about World Tour mode is that it adresses something that i always had to carefully evaluate when buying a fighting game. Normally i have to think "ok, will i REALLY play this game a lot? dedicate myself to get better and play al ot online? will my friends get it so i can play with them?" because otherwise, i might play arcade a few times and be done, and that just wouldn't justify a 60$ purchase, and i bet im not the only one who thinks like that about fighting games. But with World Tour? even if i don't touch fighting ground i'm basically getting a 30 hours long beat em up with amazing mechanics at the absolute very least! it makes the purchase feel a lot more... safe, because there's a normal, single player game that i can dedicate enough hours to if i don't want or can't get competitive, it's something that was really necessary for fighting games, and i hope it becomes the norm.

I don't think it'll be the norm. This is kinda something that few series outside SF can do. SF6 can pull off this kind of experience cause the decades long legacy of the series plus all that Final Fight bonus that adds even more, making that beat em up aspect feel like a "no shit, why haven't we thought of this before" thing. Also Capcom money. As you said, it's a game within a game (plus all the actual retro games included you can play as well). This definitely isn't gonna be something many other fighting game series attempt successfully, if at all.
@reanbright2435
@reanbright2435 9 ай бұрын
@MagillanicaLouM Idk about that, it feels like fighting games are starting to catch on that they need something more than just Arcade Mode and short character stories to get non-competitive casual players to buy their games at launch. Look at MK, since MK9 they broke out in sales because from 9 until currently, they have had long, interwoven stories that can keep a casual entertained for days without ever needing to step into online. Granblue is also now making long stories as well with Rising and even included online modes where they can play minigames that have nothing to do with online fights. And the most recent, Tekken 8. They introduced this new single player mode called Arcade Quest, and no not the same thing as an arcade mode where you just have a long list of fights against the CPU, believe me I made the same mistake. It's actually a cute little story mode for offline players go enjoy. Has some nostalgia for arcade cabinets combined with a story that reminded me a bit of World Tour just on a smaller scale. Companies aren't afraid to borrow from other fighting developers if they're seeing success. Look at how many modern fighting games have made a simple input command system as of recently. BlazBlue always had it but then after Street Fighter introduced theirs for 6 and saw the success it had. We've been getting simpler inputs for series such as Granblue, the new MK1 and even the newest Tekken 8.
@reanbright2435
@reanbright2435 9 ай бұрын
I think Tekken's Arcade Quest is the closest to a developer following in the footsteps of SF 6's World Tour. It's still just a fraction of it, since Arcade Quest is on a smaller scale but now so many more fighting game developers can try their take on it from now on for future games, including their very own takes on a World Tour mode.

This is just me, but i think World Tour took most of its inspiration from the "create character" modes in the japanese versions of Rival Schools/Project Justice. You spent a school year making your character and meeting the playable characters, what they like and think about things, making friends and so on, and throw some mini-games in between while lore-dumping stuff on you... i mean its too obvious if you played those japanese versions :3

I'm a Mortal Kombat guy and I fine myself invested more in Street Fighter 6 World Tour mode than any other MK game. Even back when in the 3D era of MK Deception, I fine this to be even more fun than the single player content in that game. And whats more that I love in World Tour is not just getting to meet and talk with the masters but also learn more about them. From their history,their goals,their hobbies and everything in between that you get to know more of them in just arcade mode. And also unlocking all of the artworks that shows them in it that looks amazing. Seeing Chun-li playing a traditional Chinese instrument on the down time,learning that Dhalsim use to play baseball and also with the new characters like Luke who just chills back,eat snacks and plays video games like Darkstalkers. This could possibly be in my opinion the *best* Street Fighter game ever and no one can tell me otherwise.

Capcom nailed World Tour Mode. Ive been gaming for a long time and one game design I always imagined after so many fighting games was an open world game to where you can walk around and fight opponents, when you do fight it instantly switches to your normal 1 on 1 or 1 on many fight battle instead if like a 3rd person beat em up. Capcom has made that imagination come true. I hope the next SF or another fighting game adopt this concept for its fans. I can imagine if Dead or Alive, Virtua Fighter, Samurai Shodown had something similar.

There's not many games out there that play like a fighter and are mainly single player story mode. Only ones i can think of off the top of my head are Kya: Dark Lineage for PS2 (has art direction like the 3D Rayman games, main character's got cool blue dreads, and combat's apparently akin to Tekken) and the recent Clash: Artifacts of Chaos (Stone punk world full of bizarre creatures and focus on martial arts, main character can find and "equip" different stances and special attacks, and switch between two equipped stances at any time, even mid-combo string). As someone who tries to approach topics of fighting games from both perspectives (casual and hardcore FGC), I think the gist I'm getting is that World Tour is great, easily the best single-player mode in the genre, but it also feels like a 1st draft prototype that leaves room for further refinement in future entries (or through updates since DLC characters are planned to feature in World Tour). This is the first time we've seen something on this scale, so I'm not really expecting the mode to be perfect from the get-go. I just hope Capcom capitalises on this formula that they created and maybe try to expand upon it in the future instead of making it a 1-time gimmick.
@masterdhegamer6661
@masterdhegamer6661 Жыл бұрын
@@leithaziz2716 I agree with that. It really feel like they nailed every part of the mode that's tied to the core fighting gameplay (like the enemy design, tutorialization, master system and minigames), while what's around that is still a bit barebones (story, open-world, quests, RPG elements). But especially for a secondary mode in a style that I assume most of the team hasn't even worked on before, it's an amazing effort. I too hope they can iterate in this in future games, and hopefully more fighting games start adopting more experimental game modes like this in the future too.

It's a lot of bloat and, to be honest, I feel like it's a participation award. I'm here cause of the algorithm and saw the clickbait and... frankly, you can only make a video like this as earnest advertising. And I really have to say, it was something that fighting games have put off for so long. They abandoned the idea of things like... Tobal or Ehrgeiz's quest mode. Create-a-Soul, Project Justice's Japan only "Create a Student." My main issue is that we have a precedent for this kind of mode, and I would argue that the way those modes approach those ideas holistically, as a complete game and not as something that HAS to do something to desperately build a brand and turn stuff into trivia... yeah, I don't really view it as this spectacular thing, like SF6 finally "solved it." More like they realized they couldn't turn their nose up at it. I actually found my experience with World Tour mode in SF6 to be plagued with gimmicks or grinding. The scenario is absolutely clueless about the state of things, like when you reference something like "Self-Driving Cars" in a celebratory way. I think their heart was in the right place, and boy oh boy bless Nakayama's heart.

Besides a great way to teach new players the game mechanics and moves, I feel World Tour actually puts the player in the same shoes as main characters like Ryu, by having the player being the fighter who is traveling the world, learning and fighting strong opponents. Doesn't matter if the player wins or loses, lessons will be learned by the experience and there will be more challenges waiting in this world tour mode. As written in Ryu ending in SF 2 "Cerimony means nothing. The fight is everthing"

I'm so very confused by people insisting upon downplaying and denigrating the story of World Tour mode. I have to assume it's a matter of expectation, even if I'm not sure what was expected. Sure, the story isn't an epic, it isn't a gripping intricate visual novel, but it isn't meant to be. It does exactly what it was meant to do, it gives you your own backstory while introducing you to the world of Street Fighter and giving its new villains and characters a chance to show themselves and establish a presence. I think it's frankly brilliant to have just enough to keep you going along and to learn more about the setting and why someone in it may start fighting. It serves as a good vector to teach you the philosophy of the game and world without getting overbearingly preachy. I'm also a huge fan of Final Fight and I got a lot out of World Tour in general on that front too, which was nice after so long of nothing. I don't know, I don't expect anyone to change their minds because of me, but I have no platform to speak of and I just wanted to give my thoughts about something that I've only seen negativity about, even if it only gets lost in this comments section.

This may just be a me thing but I kinda liked the ending of World Tour. Maybe I’ve been watching too much Vinland Saga but the idea that the main villain of a fighting game not only wins in the end but laughs at the idea of violence solving the problem just feels right. If you tried to beat up Jeff Bezos to stop his empire I’m sure he’d laugh in your face too. I do hope for more story content later on though. Edit: And while the story itself admittedly is kind of bare bones, I think it has a lot of interesting themes that should be acknowledged. The main one that gets repeated to you being the question of the true meaning of strength and how you need to find it for yourself. There’s also themes about what people will do in pursuit of strength, questioning the need for violence in modern society, and the importance of ideals/ a reason to fight. Just figured I’d throw that in there since I felt like you were a bit too dismissive of the story in general. It’s not amazing and it could definitely have gone deeper with its themes but you can’t say they weren’t there.

When I was going through this mode I was annoying the hell out of my discord by constantly singing it's game design praises. You're right, everything in this mode is about teaching, obvious or otherwise. Some of the ones I think that are important that you missed here is how each match you fight in seems to have a 50/50 chance of you being on P1 or P2 side, teaching you to do inputs interchangably on each side. Another notable one that you showed in the video but didn't mention was vs Carlos. His entire gameplan is using an annoyingly invincible move over and over and getting the player to figure out how to deal with it. Something you will absolutely find against online opponents. The mode is super impressive and I do hope that they add more to it than just new characters. As a side complaint however, come on Capcom, let us have a sports bra we can colour :P

The way Honda encourages you for losing, Ken chastises you for using a special move without thinking. But even down to the minor stuff, theres a sidequest where you have to uncover a password by solving a complex math equation given to you by a scientist. You find the answer to the equation is 123456; the first thing you would have tried if you just brute forced the password. She then tells you that things that often look scary and intimidating often have laughably simple solutions. Other fighting game stories might be about revenge, or destiny, or heavier broader topics, but Street Fighter 6 is about enjoying fighting games, down to its narrative themes.

Used to be a teacher. Ever since I watched the trailer for Pressure Time before the game release, I already knew this game would be crazy good for teaching new players. Though I think the Pizza mini game could be improved. For example, sure you can perfect do a hadouken with 3 directions but in reality, you may use half circle forward instead to prevent getting shoryu. There should be some leniency that doesn't force you to get the exact correct input

I genuinely believe that World Tour mode is Act 1 of the actual Street Fighter 6 Story, with the additional acts coming at some point in the future. I don't think this is gonna be another M Bison scenario where JP is gonna be hanging out as the big bad for multiple games. Also Capcom has stated that Luke, Jamie and Kimberly are the main trio of this story and of the three of them one of them has no real interest in taking down JP, and one of them might not even know/care about JP. There's definitely more to this than whats available now

What I thought was weird... the second to last boss, your rival whose on a dark version of your journey and the fight everything was building towards... was losable and changes nothing. However, the final boss fight is the one you HAVE to win, even though the boss says it doesn't matter and changes nothing.
@jurtheorc8117
@jurtheorc8117 Жыл бұрын
I think with JP's fight, there's a thematic reason for that. You can finally inflict immediate pain on the b*bleep*rd who has been an entire country into his personal money laundering scheme and deliberately put a child in danger mere minutes ago, so there's meant to be a catharsis of "suck it, old man!" But JP, as he has done many times before and will always do the rest of his life, is quick to dash other people's hopes with simple facts. He's beaten and bruised, but still in power over practically the entire country. Still messed up people and their livelihoods and can safely continue his money laundering. I believe that the final fight is meant to illustrate how much of an ahead-planning master of malice JP exactly is. He's impressive with his psycho power, but his real power lies in pulling the strings in the grand scheme of it all. So essentially-- the last boss is emphasis on how JP lost only the momentary fight, and nothing else. Because he's just that intelligent.
@kingcrazymf9585

@@jurtheorc8117 I feel like if they let you lose that fight, JP would just step over you and the scene would be the same. That fight should have mattered at least in the following cutscene.

Yeah, the added layer of immersing yourself in the world and investing in your own character's growth really adds a lot to the learning experience. Of course, it's fully possible to push through it without consciously retaining the lessons learned as you collect the rewards for beating Alice's squad, meaning it falls on the player to ask questions and think about what all the little goals and challenges mean. But it's way better for player retention and motivation than just going down a tutorials list with a vague goal of learning anything at all. (I mean, if you're not here with a purpose in mind, the tutorials menu is going to feel like when you get the How to play Blitzball checklist thrust on you in FFX.)

Clash: Artifacts of Chaos which came out a few months ago did walk a path like that. You can find different fighting styles and special attacks in the overworld, equip any 2 styles and 3 special attacks at once (and switch between both styles at any moment, even mid-combo), and level up your main character's stats. There's only four stats, and Styles and Special Attacks are all affected by three of them in different ways. Plus, you can find wooden effigies in the overworld to burn in ritual burners-- leveling up individual styles. Not as demanding as Street Fighter, but *definitely* worth checking out and spreading the word about. (also, if you ever wanted a fighting 3D platformer, an old PS2 game by name of Kya: Dark Lineage has you covered)

Playing this game as someone with ADHD I really appreciate the way they do things. Story mode is basically just 1 big tutorial and I love that. Having to do certain things multiple times to get stuff from people you're fighting makes it so easy to learn and remember how to do things. Every time I forget about something I run into someone that requires me to do that thing to get something good from them and I re-learn how to do it. It makes learning and playing the game so much easier and more fun.

I actually really enjoyed World Tour, it kind of sold me on getting SF6 now instead of waiting for a sale in a year or so. I'm more of a Tekken player (mechanics wise, but I've played SF2-5, MK D.A-11,DOA 1-5, VF2-5, etc.), so this mode. the reviews of trusted channels and the Modern control option was what sold me on the game (yay, a way around issues with analog sticks on console adding RNG to your input, I've played fighting games since Tekken 2, both w/- & w/o analog sticks, on PS, X-box and Nintendo controllers, but end up using the D-pad since that way Im sure that it doesn't turn DP into Hadoken or Fwrd-jump at 30% the time you use half-circle fwrd.). Sorry, that last part was a bit too negative, but SF's heavy focus on the directional input style (and d-pad friction) kept me from really using some of the characters often. Now, even with his low-tier and the limitations on the Modern controls move set, Im enjoying Zangief like i haven't since the Marvel vs.Capcom / Street fighter vs X-men days (you had was you could trigger his 360' supers, like w/ shoulder buttons) So i liked SF6 and its singe player features a lot, but to be fair... There are some issues with World tour (I will mention loading times once, but Im focused on the non-technical). Locations of weren't really fleshed out beyond Metro City & Nayshall, so those areas, many of the masters and cast where so secluded to the point the interactions could be like handled through your in-game phone instead dealing with going back & forth through the fast travel loading screen for a quick hello or to check if the last style level up would open a quest (I would keep the Metro city & Nayshall areas, with options for expanding both or adding a 3rd big area in future DLC. And present all the others like a video call, since its basically a visual-novel interaction with the characters stage select as a backdrop). The Side-quest was overall pretty good. Ok, you not getting The Witcher 3 or early BioWare with multiple choice options that change approach and results that echo through the story, so for a fighting game it's pretty good, and for Street Fighter, the most 1 vs 1. big EVO tournament focused franchise, its impressive. The biggest problem are when the quest are vague on who/where/what. Since no npc give a any real hints, the markers are not the obvious if they are on moving or randomly appearing enemies making you run past the just enough to see them de-spawn, and the forementioned cycle of loading times for every time you need to visit the small masters locations with a single merchant to see if they had an item you needed or if the next interaction with the master is more than some flavor line from a passing-by bethesda npc this time. (I think almost everyone has looked up the Luke PMC one online, its a randomly spawning enemy type found around central Nayshall shopping area & the sidewalks around the north-eastern buildings of Metro city, both in day-time) But, small frustrations aside, I enjoyed SF6 and most of my time playing up until now have been in World Tour. I hope they expand it with dlc and new masters, and even add options for more than one playthrough without deleting your avatar (for those of us who sometime likes to go through story mode again as a warm-up after a longer hiatus) TL;DR I agree withe video, but had some notes, and went overboard.

To any new people who may see this video. What he says at 14:15 about having to play as or fight against a characters style is only half correct. I didnt learn this until i maxed out a Master. But once you max one out all of the excess XP can be transferred to every other non maxed Character. So once you hit level 20 with lets say Ryu, you can transfer all the extra xp to Cammy. And you can choose the specific amount so technically you could take a single batch of 2,000 xp and split it between all the masters if you really wanted to. Which is great for people dont like most characters play styles

I always thought the characters of Street Fighter were cool and I LOVE the Satsui no Hado stuff to death, but my only experience with Street Fighter has been arcade cabinets where the opponents hurl endless Hadokens and Shoryukens at me and I never got into the gameplay because the move inputs are so complex compared to Mortal Kombat's and Tekken's inputs and only moving in 2D seemed more frustrating than fun. Seeing that World Tour Mode breaks down how to do all of these things, tells you the fighting game lingo I never understood and does it all a way that embraces the "Kung Fu is in everything you do" mentality rather than treating everything like frames and data REALLY speaks to me. I've long loved Street Fighter's story without once wanting to try the games, but if World Tour is everything this video cracks it up to be, then I'm actually VERY interested in trying 6 out now! I'll wait to see if there's more story in the game than just this mode before I decide for sure (since it IS the official characters that bring me to a series I don't play), but this video did something I didn't think was possible and get me over the dread of being zoned into a corner with nothing to do.

According to Steam, I've already put in 4 more hours into SF6 than SF5 all thanks to World Tour mode. I actually don't think it's that great, the story was completely forgettable and when talking to masters, I eventually started skipping through their dialogue as fast as I could. But the building your character, leveling them up and then unlocking other fighter's special moves so I can add it to my moveset is surprisingly addictive even if it takes a bit of grinding once the story is completed. Having Yoga teleport, dragon punch, flash kick and the spinning piledriver all at my disposal in any fight is really fun even if I reached a level where anyone I face is a pushover. I think not getting health back and having to manage when to use items helps too.

One thing I think they fumbled on is teaching the player defense. There are some quests which challenge you to not take damage for a while but you can't replay them and they're also side quests. It's such missed potential because Bosch's final battle has a super that he can't be hit out of that requires you to jump block the other direction, block low, block high and counter drive impact to punish him. Such a great move that teaches the player good defense and they missed the opportunity to have more bosses like this. But I don't think it's a big loss anyway, SF6's DI and Punish Counter mechanics are so intuitive that players will eventually learn that if I block this move and the use this move it will always hit and if I use this move and he blocks it I always take damage, without ever looking at the frame data.

Well its simple, how they created? give a mix of customization mode from Soul Calibur 6 and Rival Schools (japanese home ver are included a customization and simulation mode) a bit of YAKUZA too and voilà: World Tour! They took inspiration from the success of other games but also, they finally listened the fans, because only the old veteran fans can give a great idea like that and we told every time: include a mode like Rival Schools as single mode and you win, so basically its "capcom fans" that created the game, they just finally listened what we said from years!
