This video made me start reading the Dune series back a while ago. I just started God Emperor, and I have to say that so far this has been one of my favourite series ever. Just wanted to drop a thank you, for pointing the spotlight on these books!

I just finished god emperor and it was amazing. I also just dropped thanks for this video and this video made me read it as it did you! So cool.

So finally I've read the series up to God Emperor of Dune. I literally just set it aside before I returned to this video. I watched this video when it came out and since then I had decided I would read Dune some day. I bought the first one this spring and as I was reading it I just decided to order the rest five of them. I am very thankful and glad that Thorin shared this because I feel like it prepared me so well into the series "boring" and "tideus" parts. At this point I don't feel it was any struggle to read any of it. Also watching this now prepares me for the last two books which apparently are again different. Great about this video is also that it doesn't spoil anything at all but it surely made me wanna read the books. Thank you Thorin.

Dune is an amazing series. I read through God Emperor of Dune and stopped there. It sounds like I should reread the books again and continue with the series. God Emperor of Dune was fucking crazy but philosophically amazing. I completely agree with you Thoorin.

I would genuinely like version of this video with spoilers, just to see what parts and ideas in particular were most appealing to you, Thorin. Gliding on surface is unlike you!

Dune is a wonderful series. While I can agree it may possibly be the best set of novels in it's genre; there is another series that I've always enjoyed just a little more. That series being Frederik Pohl's Gateway series, also known as the Heechee Saga. This was the set of books that really jump started my mind, and helped me to start using my critical faculties in ways I had previously not imagined. It was also the final piece of the puzzle required to consolidate my now lifelong love affair with the cosmos, and the nature of space and time. As far as literature goes, I don't think many would deny that Frank Herbert is a better author than Pohl. Nevertheless, even Dune, a series which also holds such a cherished place in my memories (and always invokes a smile when remembered) can overthrow Gateway as my favorite Science Fiction novel. Anyone who has never read either of these needs to rectify that. I've yet to meet anyone who tried that was left unfulfilled.

Huh, Heretics is where I dropped off years back. Maybe I was too young to appreciate it fully. I'll get back to the series, looking forward to reading it all again)

This video is so well time for me. Just finished reading Sophie's World and was looking for another book to read. This made me remember that my humanities teacher suggested rereading Dune after college to see how my perspective changed from my early teen years. I also agree with God Emperor of Dune being the best and my favorite thing about the book is Leto II.

Thanks mate, I loved the first Dune book but was originally turned off from the second. Most people I asked said that was fine and the first was good as a standalone novel. I'll take your advice though and plow forward.

SPOILERS: One of the most prescient concepts I think is in the second book; the attitude of the Fremen after conquest: wanting to return to an era of honor and simplicity that no longer exists and cannot be recalled. It's effectively the Trump camp in a nutshell.

You could try an audio book if you can't kick the habit. Different but still great.

My biggest issue with the first Dune novel is that Herbert keeps head-hopping literally mid-dialogue throughout the whole book. And he does it only to point out how great this or that character is at everything from diplomacy to martial arts from the point of view of another character.

Thooorin, you should look into the manga series Berserk. I think you would like it. Philosophical elements as well as action and horror. Insanely good art. The way I got into Berserk: Watched the 3 movies, then went and read the manga. Imo, that's the best way to experience the series. Either that or just straight read the manga (skip all anime adaptations).

Could you talk about "what is it like to be a fan" in one of your videos? In e-sports, as a viewer, I connect more as a fan towards players, not teams. Since I love VP as this squad that plays its heart out never changes, I have no difficulty cheering for them. How about other fans that cheer for other teams? Fnatic broke off to build 2 different teams. How can I now cheer for the team if there is about 2/5 or 3/5 of it left? Do I cheer for both then? Now they are back together (without Pronax tho) so still I can't even imagine fans being like "yesss I love fnatic" ... why? Is it the organization that you love, or the players? Taking Mousesports as an example is even more extreme. Hell! The current french-shuffle could have split the community as well. How do people stay fans if the rosters change? What does it even mean to be a fan? Could you talk about this topic? You bring often so many good points I never thought about and since you are a big personality in the e-sports team, I trust your opinion on topics connected to e-sports obviously.

First trilogy is extraordinary. God Emperor certainly has complex ideas with lots of depth and merit; however, it is bloated beyond belief, reads like fan fiction, has unbearable pacing and certainly is the worst novel in the series. If that's intentional by the author, then it's definitely got some merit for being able make the reader feel as bored and frustrated as humanity does in the book. It is objectively pretentious and thinks it's smarter and deeper than it is. Everything that has golden path and story relevance in this book could have been done in 50 pages or less and would have been better for it in my opinion
