TV Skip Bayless is like Twitter Thorin. He hyperbolizes everything he says, but somewhere hidden in the hyperbole is his actual opinion.

Just because Skip has been around a long time doesn't make him a great expert. Especially since the style of play has changed drastically the last 10 years. But makes sense that Thorin idolizes him, fits well with his obsession with Kobe Bryant.

I had honestly bought into the "Skip Bayless is a contrarian hack" line of thinking too, but I think this video has changed my mind considerably. Great video and keep up the good work, man.

Skip contradicts himself a lot. I don't mind the hyperbole, but I do wish he was more consistent. However, I also understand that his job is literally giving an opinion, so I don't begrudge him his inconsistencies a whole lot.

A massive hypocrite, he picks and chooses when he applies his rules to players. When Tom Brady (who he loves) wins games by driving his team into field goal range it shows how amazing Tom is but if Aaron Rodgers does it (who replaced his boy Brett Favre) then suddenly the kicker bailed out Aaron Rodgers. Fun guy to watch for entertainment but you can't take him to seriously if you are interested in balanced sports commentary due to him playing favourites.

Skip's the guy who said Nate Diaz beat Conor Mcgregor by using sumo wrestling. I don't doubt he has an area of expertise where he's knowledgable, but he also just makes shit up and will take positions purely for the purpose of trolling as well.

Gotta say I saw the title of this video and you definitely are in his mold. A lot of times i'll disagree with an opinion you have but your objective analysis is usually spot on. I will say that it does seem like while I think Bayless is very smart, he will occasionally stake out a contrarian position - going after Lebron was probably more what he honestly thought, but in retrospect Lebron was correct to take more outside shots given the way the game is today, but at the time what he was saying definitely made sense. With Tebow in the NFL I definitely feel like it was more of a "let's see how I can defend this position" thing. I'm not saying it's dishonest but I do think he supported him more as a devil's advocate for entertainment purposes more than a real belief in him being a good NFL level quarterback.

The one thing that's always bothered me about Skip is his refusal to admit that Aaron Rodgers is one of the most talented QBs of all time just because he only has one ring. It's as you say he always cites Rodgers' playoff win-loss numbers but doesn't acknowledge that Rodgers also has the highest overall passer rating in regular and post season history. That tells me he still does his job in those losses. Skip only dislikes Aaron Rodgers so much because there are insane amounts of fans that suggest Rodgers is better than Tom Brady, who Skip is obviously a fan of. He is definitely biased and that's fine because pretty much everyone who is a fan of a team is going to be biased. He'll make excuses for the loss of his favorite teams like the Cowboys and Patriots while at the same time a team he doesn't like might be going through the exact same circumstances and he'll disregard those same excuses for them. Sometimes he can be more reasonable than others but either way he's entertaining.

@Thooorin 6 жыл бұрын
The point is that his analysis is consistent, though. Like if Aaron Rodgers won four more rings he absolutely would credit him as an all-time great quarterback. The kind of bias people claim, where it is personally motivated only, would be if Rodgers had 3 or 4 rings and then Skip still claimed he wasn't a contender for best QB ever, on the basis of for some reason not liking him or thinking he was over-rated.
@thenightmancometh93
@thenightmancometh93 6 жыл бұрын
Thooorin I agree that he's mostly been consistent with his analysis, but it's one thing to say Rodgers isn't the best QB of all time and another to suggest he isn't one of the most talented. I think he takes that narrative a bit too far. For example in the playoffs last season when the Packers beat the Cowboys and Rodgers made that insane throw to the sideline to Jared Cook on 3rd and 20 to set up the game winning field goal, Skip called that a "pitch and catch" which has to be one of the most ridiculous statements I've ever heard him make. Those are the kind of statements where you can see a clear bias.

Skip knows a majority of viewers are mouth breathing Neanderthals and will go in a frenzy if he says something absurd. He trolls on purpose to get a reaction but viewers are too stupid to realize it. His opinions are real but he exaggerates them to get people invested. He is absolutely a genius

Skip maybe at one time was a reputable journalist but now he's being paid millions of dollars to spout nonsense for attention and headlines. He doesn't believe most of the shit he says, the very premise of his show is to have an opposing viewpoint of his colleague to make an entertaining argument. You say no one knowledgeable on the industry has a problem with him but there are quite a few i.e. Richard Deitsch.

Skip Bayless actually thinks that a 53 year old Michael Jordan could have beaten a 31 year old LeBron in a 1vs1 game and has also said that Phil Jackson has never proved himself to be a great coach - those two opinions show that either he's completely clueless about the NBA or he's a professional troll.

I like Skip but this man seriously has made his career over past decade on hating Lebron James. It's honestly close to an opposition, to always find something negative or somehow be talking about a completely different topic but mention Lebron even when he has nothing to do with what's been said.

Skip’s very hyperbolic if you ask me. He’s very good at setting the scene around an individual or team’s story, but needs his co-hosts like Shannon Sharpe to bring him back down to earth.

Thooorin I don’t think his provocative tendencies are intentional at all. I say that because the way he covers topics is intensely different from the way other people such as yourself do. You focus a lot on larger trends. For example, you’ve always said that someone like f0rest is a very streaky CS player who, over certain periods of time, can be either outstanding or a liability. That’s your method of analysis and it’s as valid as any other. After spending lots of time looking at Skip’s analysis, he zooms in very closely on the exact topic, date and time in question. He’s willing to criticize people such as Lebron James because, despite their evident greatness, there may have been a day where his strengths may not have shown or his focus in approaching the particular game may have been misguided. Then, by contrast, when true greatness is observed, he shouts it from the heavens. It may not be the best indication of long term trends and wider context, but it’s immensely accurate for the exact moment. This causes a lot of provocation.

Well apparently saying things like "clutch-gene" and "killer-instinct" makes you knowledgeable about sports nowadays. Look no further than Skips brilliant analysis of the way OKC defended LeBron in 2012, and his explanation of zone defense, back when Mark Cuban came to First Take. His knowledge about the history of the NBA doesn't go much farther than "Jordan is 6/6 in NBA Finals". Ask him anything about the 60's or the 70's in the NBA, and he couldn't tell you crap. He thinks that Bill Russell owned Wilt Chamberlain during their careers (for him, the Celtics weren't the ones dominating, it was just Russell individualy), even though head to head, Wilt was better than Russell in every statistical category that was being tracked back than. But Russell has 11 rings, so he has to be a better player right? Yeah, that's what Skip and other idiot ring-counters would make you think. He's entertaining, I guess. Knowledgeable? Only someone that isn't knowleadgeable, would call Skip knowledgeable.

I typically listen to and enjoy all your content, but I don't even have to listen to this one to dislike it. Why? Because the content is irrelevant. Skip Bayless (and others like him) should not be discussed, negatively or positively. He is a controversial figure for the sake of controversy (and ratings). The only way to make them go away is to simply ignore them.
