Its unfortunate, my dad has used the work boots from red wing for so long. He also uses Georgia boots for yard work.

Don't bend the hook you'll weaken it, I've snapped hooks off on Carolina boots in the past I refuse to buy them now as there sole is made is different now and hurt my arches. I've only had one bad pair of red wings and that with the way they made the toe box. I owe Irish Setter's now and I like them. But I'm wanting a pair of Nick's boots.

Thorogood, in my opinion, is better than RedWing. I've had both and loved both. Thorogood is more comfortable and lasts longer. I feel like RedWing tries not to fix warranty stuff due to their name and reputation. Thorogood will take care of you with no hassle.
