Hey Thor, When Disney bought LF all those years ago, once I got over the shocked feeling like my grandparents had been dug up and that somebody was going to try to bring them back to life, and once I got over the rage that I knew they were going to do little more than slap Mickey Mouse ears on Darth Vader, I started trying to predict their plan for prospective films (exceptionally silly on my part in hindsight). At the time, I didn’t know Lucas had been working on plans for a sequel trilogy. I assumed that Disney would play it smart (different than playing it safe) and follow the mold that SW was so famous for - picking up on the middle of the story. Because the Skywalker story was done after Palps got shafted by Anader, I thought they were going to start their episodical Star Wars movies with Ep. X, then do XI and XII and then circle back around to VII-IX. This way, they could have maintained huge intrigue and interest (even regardless if 10-12 were bad). As for a story (again, the Skywalker story in my head was obviously concluded, and in my heart, canonical Star Wars is only 1-6), I thought they could do something like what the newest Planet of the Apes film did, with distant echoes back to the previous trilogies, but it was still fundamentally a different story - a different Star War if you will, in a galaxy far, far away, just a little less long ago. Why do you think the people who bought LF lacked such big picture thinking when it came to all this? To me the obvious thing to point to is the same thing that is happening with all the other old successful franchises - movies take too much money to make and studios don’t want to risk it on something unproven. But at the same time, Disney has CLEARLY (to me at least) said they don’t care one bit about money, because they keep making the same garbage and losing countless dollars on it. They seem to want to make their point, even if it costs them hundreds of millions and desecrating their acquired IP. So again, if not money, why the severe lack of big picture thinking? Love the channel btw, keep up the hard and good work!

A new triology? Good luck Disney. While a new triology is not the worst idea, I think Disney doesn't realize how difficult this task is going to be. Disney new triology needs to be similar to the prequels. The prequels were popular with children and it managed to grow a new generation of star wars fans. But the catch is that the parents either need to be sequel fans or neutral towards star wars. So the potential audience is already limited. Will Disney be successful? Well I doubt it. Hey Thor, One of my favorite ideals set by the Jedi has always been the rule of loving without exclusion for some over others. Hopefully I'm getting the philosophy intended, as from my view the meaning of this is to respect and value the well-being of everyone equally with no favoritism and to accept both the good and the bad you experience with them as long as they are not infringing on the rights of others. It's an ideal that, while difficult to practice in real life, is one that I feel we haven't had enough of in this world for at least some time. These days, it seems we are encouraged to be as selective as possible in choosing those you associate with and come to know as people. If someone doesn't immediately agree with or has reservations about certain things that you value or believe in, they're immediately cast out of the conversation or group they were once a part of without any interest in hearing their point of view. I feel like these expectations have caused most of the social problems we see today with little good coming out of them but that hasn't stopped anyone from reconsidering how this is affecting themselves and the people they treat this way. I understand that, unlike Jedi, we all have individual desires and relationships we value above all others. But the big question from me is, why hasn't this been recognized as the detriment it is to everyone, and what can we do to mitigate it in our daily lives?

Hey Thor, I'm wondering what you think of this idea for this hypothetical trilogy if it takes place far into the post sequel future: it would have a rather simple story about the new jedi order facing some kind of threat which could push them down a similar path to the prequel jedi. However, in the end they make the right choices signifying that they learned the lessons needed to learn in order to last another 1000 generations. But, most importantly, throughout the trilogy, whenever there is a scene where they talk about some wisdom that originated with Luke, Rey, or whoever else from the current time periods, they never name these characters by name. They just refer to them as something like "the founders". And, if they ever do refer to Rey by name, they never mention any of what she did. Rather, they just say whatever wisdom she passed down as if she was just another ancient jedi. I feel like this would allow fans to choose whether or not to include the sequels in their head canons. If they like the sequels then they can consider Rey a founder and fill in the gaps with her accomplishments in the sequels. If they don't like the sequels, then they can just jump straight from return of the jedi into episode 10 and pretend that Luke is the founder of this jedi order like the sequels never happened. All this to say, if they make a good trilogy that gets the jedi right and makes good on the themes of star wars which also doesn't talk about the sequels, then I think they could make a trilogy which makes both sides of the fan base happy. Sorry for the long comment, but I'm intrigued to hear your thoughts.

The discourse around it can be exhausting, but I also think it had so much worth discussing if people were willing to put down the pitchforks. I've had many such good debates with friends analyzing it. Force Awakens created a bunch of unanswered questions that TLJ had to account for but part of the fandom strongly disliked those answers. I felt it was attempting to modernize some older franchise themes and give more depth to the new characters. I thought it created a great platform that a follow-up could have built off of but sadly that was not to be. I was curious to hear your thoughts on that path not taken. If JJ (or another Director) had doubled down instead of rejecting what TLJ set up and managed to stick the landing, would the fandom have eventually come around? honestly it could be great but l still wouldn’t attend a theatrical show or stream it out of pure spite because of what the 🐭/Lucas Films had done to the 3 legacy characters in the previous trilogy 😤

I used to be excited about new Star War news, but my interest is seriously waining with all the mixed messages and stuff that seems to come to nothing! They are gonna have to pull something amazing out of the bag to get back the trust they have lost in a massive swathe of fans since Disney took over.

At this point, I’m just pulling out and spending all my time in the old EU. It’s sad that all the behind the scenes drama is more interesting than the actual products these days.

One of Rey's apprentices going dark side? As if they let Rey fail like that.

Kennedy is what, 70? she'll be 74, 75, before we even see a teaser of whatever this is.

Wouldn’t be surprised at all if Disney remade the Skywalker saga!! I don’t believe that they’re capable of making something fresh and interesting. Although we’ll see how Skeleton Crew does 🤔

At this point I genuinely think they make these announcements to boost Disney stock and that's it

Damn, I wanted Taikas trilogy first :(

How about we get one movie out before we commit to a trilogy. Just one nice, fun, standalone space adventure. If it does well enough, make sequels.

I'll go farther than you, Thor... I'll belive this when I'm sitting in the theater watching the third movie. Just bc they get one of these in the can, doesn't mean it'll be popular enough with the fans to warrant two more films.

This is just Lucasfilm blowing smoke as always, I honestly believe the plan is too simply for Kennedy and her story group to survive quarter to quarter until someone at the top of Disney asks "Why are we paying these loosers, they are Clearly incapable of producing anything but hot air!!!" I bet everything for Lucasfilm is resting on the Mano movie performance. If that film under performs or crashes and burns at the box office, that will likely be the straw that broke the camel's back and keeping Kennedy in place is not going to please investors who are likely fed up of loosing money on Disney and their poor performance!!

Oooooooooh, can't wait to hear how if I don't support this movie I obviously love the bad orange man.

I'd suggest Disney to first make KK to retire and then announce new projects and hope for a hype.
@BouttaGoToBedАй бұрын
KK could step down as president and stay at Lucasfilm as a producer too. Don't see that happening but who knows anymore. No way this trilogy comes anways.

Of all the announcements so far, Kinberg has the most talent, so ... definitely not going to happen...

Don't curse Mando and Grogu, Thor. Please! 🙏 I'm only maybe looking forward to that and Andor Season 2.

What were the titles of all the movies and series cancelled or in permanent development limbo?
@kenward1310Ай бұрын
Why can't they just give these projects to the best writers instead of these hacks? When you've got Disney money there's no excuse not to pay as much as you have to in order to get the best writers to write Star Wars. This isn't hard. If you have to backup a dumptruck of cash onto Tony Gilroy's doorstep to get him to write a new SW sequel trilogy... then you do it!
