Your comment is so old you probably don't even remember writing it, but I'll respond anyway. People cling to it because of brainwashing from their early childhood. I had nightmares of hell my whole life and the fear caused me to chide myself whenever any thoughts like "This doesn't make sense" passed through my mind. It took me so long to finally allow myself to work through my personal fears and break out of the brainwashing. Even now, I sometimes feel an irrational fear of hell.
@SmashtheCmachine3 жыл бұрын
@@user-tz5uq2bt1s Just a "heads up", this will be a long post. My life has flipped on it's head in 6 years. Hoo boy. Ex drunk, now sober. I quit drinking (mainly, in part, so I could afford TO change my life around and get driving... now that I'm middle aged, and my body is starting to fall apart on me). Several years after quitting, I was no closer to a car, so moved in with folks (having forgotten they were CURAZY! - They're nice, and mean well... but holy hell, my family believe some crazy shit, and I can't tell them what I know, because that would hurt their faith in their deity, and I will be an evil bastard, in their eyes, for it). So I moved back with them after living on my own, re-remember how nuts they are (I was consistantly drunk, and it rather blurred out a lot of my memory) The pro: I can drive, now (although trying to get through the DMV and all that shit just as all this covid shit began was a nightmare). I also located property that might be within my means to own, if I can tightfist every time I can, working as many hours as disability will allow, as I am on disability for a pretty severe sleep disorder... Anyhow, my life changed pretty drastically in this time. I'm glad you did respond, years later. I had since turned misanthropic. The past 5-6 years since I quit drinking has completely soured my attitude towards my own kind. How my beliefs relate: and what transpired: I have been convinced humanity was going to self destruct from my early teens. It began with the bible, at first, I figured we'd nuke ourselves in a world war, and around that time "God would save his children". My beliefs in that has changed over the years, I'll detail upon that in a bit... also during that timeI encountered a christian buddy who blew all my arguments as an atheist out of the water. He saw "God" as "the universe's greatest internet troll". Which made me reconsider if god actually is possible, and as I couldn't argue against it (all the ridiculous stuff in the bible...> Boy, that god sure had himself some laughs convincing us humans that Shrek was a documentary... "DONKEY!"... 2000 years ago!). But in the meantime, I am still convinced humanity is set on self destruct (for more solid reasons than mere nukes, any more. More like burying the ocean in garbage, and civil wars - or complete chaos... all it'll take is for the transportation of food to be disrupted, and for people to start starving...) Which, in itself, wouldn't completely annihilate humanity... but when nuclear and chemical plants start facing "budget cuts" in the event we have a civil war, and kill half of our population off... situations like "Bhopal" will become a lot more serious and frightening possibilities. And between sobering up, (quit many years of heavy drinking, cold turkey, as MANY people I thought were friends turned on me), finding out humanity is rather petty, selfish, or just plain clueless... I rather began to hate this species of ours (I tell you what, seeing a reply along the lines of "B...but you're human too!" irritate the hell outta me... it's like "DUH! That doesn't mean that all these disasters our species is creating for itself, and watching grown women beat the shit out of one another for a Barbie doll on Black Friday doesn't disgust me!"... seriously! So I turned misanthropic... and half the time I find most people to be painfully predictable (especially most believers, though my "god is an internet troll" buddy proves there are exceptions). Which got me wondering if there are those rare people like he and I... but most people are cheap two-bit programs, and I am in a variant of the matrix. Some days I cant help but wonder if the walls aren't going to disolve into code, and when I come to, there's some pompous jackass sitting in a throne laughing at me. Ah... I wrote a lot, just to say nothing. But I get ya. Anyways, glad you replied, it's nice being able to voice my thoughts, when my household currently consists of... rather cultish christians. And yeah, my thoughts went down a pretty dark path, in this time. Anyhow, I apologize for the "TL;DR". A year after I wrote that, I quit drinking cold turkey, and succeeded even as I made a complete ass of myself (I had hoped someone would have been wise enough to see I was going through a rather dramatic and stressful time... but only got more grief. I alienated the atheist community, even running off people I considered great friends... but even still, I gritted my teeth, and never touched a bottle of booze since. Some people can handle drinking, even quitting booze, for me it was hell). But here's hoping I turned my life around in time to prep (doomsday prep) well enough for what I think is going to happen (WHICHEVER scenario COULD possibly happen, to trigger our self destruction, as I'm fairly convinced it'll be ourselves annihilating ourselves, long before a super volcano has a chance to go off...). I figure doomsday prepping isn't so crazy. If you ARE prepped for "WW3", and the worst that happens is a medical bill in America... then you will still be able to survive through it in relative comfort. Meanwhile, about as many years ago as I wrote this original post... I had been laughing at doomsday preppers as being ridiculous. Amazing how time and different perspectives can change us. I figured you gave a thoughtful reply, so I'd give a thoughtful answer, and if anyone is to survive our own kind's idiocy... I would rather it be someone intelligent and thoughtful, so I hope you can plan for your own future, and wish you well, for better or worse. I feel guilty writing this, like I am dumping my anxieties on you (not my intent, I just don't want to survive the end of the world, and everyone around me being a bunch of fruitloops and idiots, again, so wanted to make sure YOU plan ahead, as well, you would rank among the smarter of my kind, imo!). May my fears not happen in our lifetimes... but please prepare, anyways. And keep yourself safe.

Well done, my friend. As a liberal meditation teacher I am considered a "dangerous radical" by fundamentalist Buddhists who seek to bow, and make offerings to a dead man named Gautama who might have taught some effective contemplative techniques many centuries. ago. I'm much more interested in finding and practicing self-help techniques (so I can be even more of a happy camper) than I am in worshiping what could very well be a mere archetype and live in fear.
@santisuktan506610 жыл бұрын
If you looking at finding and practising your own techniques then you should not call yourself as a Buddhist and no Buddhist should criticized you. But if you identify yourself a Buddhist then obviously you need to follow the teaching of the Buddha. When we bow to the Buddha we are paying respect to him as our teacher like we respect our own parent and not as a someone to be worship. With that i strongly believe you are not a Buddhist since you do not even know the basic teaching of the Buddha.

Atheism is rational oblivion, moral nihilism and existentially meaningless. If atheism is true insanity has no definition or meaning. All you have is opinion and the only question left is the by the famous atheist philosopher Camus "do I have a cup of coffee or kill myself?" In atheism the point is there is no point and life is absurd. We are completely determined by physical processes and DNA programming. That's it
@jerrylanglois78929 жыл бұрын
***** You're right, as atheist we choose the meaning of life without having to conform to some imaginary sky-daddy imposing his will and commands upon us ... and that meaning can be as profound as Shakespeare or as insipid as the Kardashians . We don't need a god to be accountable to but rather believe to make this world a better place is to be accountable to each other. And we don't try to be decent by fear of punishment from supernatural forces but buy a genuine humanitarian nature that works for the good of all , not just a chosen few that are righteous '' in the eyes of god '' . If atheism is '' moral nihilism '' why do atheist constitute by far the smallest segment of inmates in our prisons ?
@NorCaltheologians9 жыл бұрын
Jerry Langlois there is no meaning to life. You can pretend that you have meaning but it is fantasy. You live, you die with about as much significance as pond scum, thats it. There is no such thing as objective morality, objective rational thought only opinion if the "sky daddy" does not exist. There is no love, no real beauty, no hope, no good, no evil only oblivion. We are chunks of matter and animals that are programmed by DNA to pass on DNA, thats all folks

Religion was simply created to give comfort and structure to human lives to help give answers to philosophies humans can't understand or know. I've studied many religions and psychology, this is simply how the human brain works. We have consciousness and a wide array of emotions, something that many people have a hard time living solely with- Religion was created to guide and create boundaries and self made control over one's life- to help with anxieties, fear of the unknown, and to answer questions that still aren't known and certainly couldn't be known at the time these books were written. And if anyone is to follow a religion, go for buddhism or Taoism, at least they care about enriching yourself and the people around you, not about pleasing some Giant man in the sky and harboring negative thoughts towards those that do not believe in the same things you do. The whole point of religion is for peace of mind, and it in that itself, is a human made philosophy, religion. Get your heads out of your ass and learn to love one another. And don't preach something you can't show 100% proof for. If people choose to disbelieve, THAT is their construct in their lives, and shame on YOU for bashing them for their choices, just as you have yours. And if God is so loving, would he want you to argue over this with others, or to love and accept "thy neighbor." You shouldn't need any book to tell you to be a decent individual. Let people BE.

brilliant, it's fine to say people deserve a choice of religion / cult, but it never stops there, it always get "introduced" to someone new, someone susceptible...i agree it's scary knowing the chances of dying mean the end of your experience, but it's wonderful to be able to be here... right HERE, why should i be weary of fundamentalists or radicals, all because the text they read seems factual. those people lack the ability to question, reason or even admit the chances of no deity. then when people get offended about their religion they act out according to their god. regardless of who, they will assume the position and do the work of their deity. on my last point, the "if" for god, it's not worth it. it never will be, any deity to ever exist has been disproven or brushed aside, there are only a few left, none of which can ever be a test for knowledge, it's always about control. i'm fine with religion but when children are crying out of fear from hell, a place of loneliness and torture, endless pain..... children who have a short experience of life are very early on told hell is factual, that's cruelty beyond religion, it's lasts a lifetime, when teenagers kill themselves, because they believe the religion which indoctrinated them was disappointed or they upset their god and kill themselves or others. religion is nothing for good. it's nothing to be appreciated. our inventions of deities is astounding, we have one for everything. so why let the deities today and the religions behind them, get away with fear mongering, chastising, raping, indoctrinating, secluding, abolishing, hiding rapist priests, ignoring war time rules and worst of all..... genital mutilation. i can understand getting out of religion, but getting away is impossible, especially if the reminder is physical. a memory can be forgotten or repressed. but religious rituals can leave scars. religion has too much power. i say keep your religion to yourself, and never expose a child to it.

My favorite "crazy verse" in the Bible is Leviticus 20:27. To paraphrase, it says that all wizards that are found out should be stoned to death. This is when God is talking to Moses while laying down some of the ground rules to live by. God is basically saying that not only does he believe that wizards exist, but that they should be executed. If this single verse doesn't tell you that the Bible is completely full of shit...nothing will.

@laurenpritchett64108 жыл бұрын
The only reason I really needed a confirmation is that I'm growing up in a household with my grandmother and she is pretty religious and takes anything related to religion very seriously. So Hearing her talk about it almost daily is what originally made me think "Well, this doesn't really sound right.". But I wasn't really sure if it was just my imagination or that I just was just stupid and couldn't understand it all being a 12-year old. I was pretty ignorant when it came to the Bible. That's why I was, and still am glad that I could've found these videos because I received a lot of knowledge on the matter. I should feel better about it because receiving a lot of knowledge makes me smarter. And that's a thing to feel good about.

+Lauren Pritchett My father was an atheist, but he never pushed the idea at me.He just asked questions and let me draw my own conclusions. I went through a religious phase where I went to a Lutheran Sunday School. Dad said nothing. The person who (inadvertently) opened my eyes was the Sunday school teacher: When I questioned the literal story of Genesis, he said that I had to accept every word of the Bible as literally true or I was damned to Hell. I realized then that he was an idiot and the Bible was a book of fairy tales.

Hello Vegan Atheist. I'm a fan of your videos and have watched almost all videos. I just wanted to tell you something about the first verse in the video. All the ancient books whether it may be Gita, khoran or bible will have verses in a poetic way. It's not science to be precise and to the point. So when that verse says that thinking of a sin is committing a sin, it is telling men to avoid thinking of bad things and doesn't mean that it's an actual sin. So when people avoid thinking of bad things they become better men. It is telling people to be in more control of themselves. For eg. If a person always thinks of killing or raping there is a chance that he might do it someday than a person who thinks of science and humanity. Thank you for your wonderful videos.

ttirrem2000 Captain Cough I can even compare this to circumcision. This was practiced as early as Genesis 17:10-14. Eventually, circumcision is not necessary for salvation as shown in Romans 3:29-30. God will save anyone, regardless of color or intelligence, as long as they follow His commandments. Learn more about my religion here: iglesianicristo.net/#1

First, you have to prove there is a god, any god. Second, why should anybody believe the bible? Third, even if you could prove the first two, why on earth would I want to worship an insecure, violent, capricious, full of nonsense and fear god like yours? Besides, if you do believe the bible, but still think things changed with the new testament, all I have to say is; Malachi 3:6 "I am God, I change not".

Actually, when I was Christian, the first verse was brought up a lot. I remember trying extremely hard not to check out girls in middle school to "avoid committing adultery" lol. I'm glad I eventually saw through religion.

In my Bible i cant find the second mentioned point : deuteronomy 23:1 ....i mean i have it, but the content is another - at this point in my bible stands, that no one can have the wife of his father, after the father dies. ... So maybe there is a error in the video ...or in my bible ?

"...and cast your carcasses upon the carcasses of your idols..." But if their gods don't exist how can You do that? Will You bring them into existence just for that? This is one of the verses that subtly hint there may be other gods and I just think it's weird people much smarter than myself never catch this.

The fist quote about adultery doesn't apply to everything and it doesn't say that it applies to everything. What God is saying is that when you are married to someone, your love should be so great that you shouldn't even think about sexual thoughts with someone else. It doesn't say that thinking about murder and actual murder are equal.

I have read the bible, the old testament and the new. I did understand it's intended suggestions and unintentional insight. It's easy to understand the mind of the primitive man, and when one reads the bible, one peers into the very being of the common ancient man.

I'm not trying to defend the Bible, but I believe the first passage saying that one's thoughts should be righteous and pure, free of any evil.
@MichaelAarons17019 жыл бұрын
On the first one, let us also not omit that they said it was "adultery" but they did not say the woman you had naughty thoughts about (or ever yourself) was married which is a crucial element to adultery because adultery refers to extramarital intercourse not just regular intercourse. Also, by this passage, I'VE GOTTEN ALL KINDSA LAID!!! WOOOT!!!

Religion has always reminded me of George Orwell's 1984, Not just with the 'Thoughtcrime', but it also seems that theists often engage in 'Crimestop', which is a sort of 'protective stupidity' where otherwise logical people will stop short any thought that might lead in a heretical direction. This includes not grasping analogies, failing to perceive logical errors, and being bored or repelled by any heretical thought. In Oceania, this 'skill' is taught in childhood, similar to the religious indoctrination where children are encouraged not to question anything in the bible, no matter how ridiculous.
@noahkarpinski18248 жыл бұрын
Not 'failing to see logical errors'. It was believing in contributory statements. That is the essence of doublethink.

This video, and those like it, got me wondering what else is in The Book that I have never heard. Oh, I know all the popular stuff. But not the whole story. So I went to BibleHub and did some surfin' through the Word, and good grief, what I found was bizarre to say the least. The book of Deuteronomy contains things like 19-15 which says as when someone goes into the forest with his neighbor to cut wood, and his hand swings the axe to cut down a tree, and the head slips from the handle and strikes his neighbor so that he dies,he may flee to one of these cities and live (one of the three cities the Lord commanded be built to harbor criminals) And chapter 23 verse 23 says that when you're encamped during war to have a hole dug outside the camp, and you are to take a shovel with you, so that after you have taken a dump in the hole, you can cover it up because the Lord your God walks in the midst of your camp, to deliver you and to give up your enemies before you, therefore your camp must be holy, so that he may not see anything indecent among you and turn away from you. *TRANSLATION* Your steaming pile of shit will offend God, so cover it up. Which is a good thing to do at any rate, God not withstanding. But to mention something so...mundane and random so specifically in The Bible is...odd

AH HA the best part is first she started out her message to me and I quote " The Bible is not historic fact and should not be taken literally" and then continues to express to me that GOD is real and all I have to do is look harder and I will find what I'm looking for... UUUUGGGGHHHHHHH!!!!!!!!!!!! how can I even respond to this? trust me the message she wrote is incredibly LONG and I'm at a loss as to how to respond or if I even should. Thank you Colleen.

Please someone explain me in Leviticus 26:27-33 If God will put the carcases of those people, then that means they are dead, ok? THEN, how is God going to scatter those dead people around the nations and persue them with his sword?? Weren't they dead? Or is carcass a condition one can have while alive or WTF????
