It's true she is a fabulous actor who is deserving of the awards she has received and been nominated for. The real heroes of the movie though are the people she portrays. Like Ms Mary Jackson who was a human computer that calculated the flight trajectories of astronauts like John Glenn long before calculators and electronic computers were common place. What she did in the face of the bigotry of being a black woman makes her an incredible human being.

This is actually a perfect proposal for her situation. She has the heartfelt love and support for this decision of the people who matter the most to her - her daughters and her mother- and he knew that and included them on this specific occasion, not to pressure her but to take that pressure off! She doesn’t have to wonder if adding him into the family is a good idea, they are already on board. Having their full support is another big YES for her. He will be embedded into this little family and already he is loved and welcomed, before she even says yes. For a single mom, it doesn’t get more beautiful than that.

Beautiful movie. I can't ever watch it or Fences again. Last 2 movies my dad sat down and watched with me . 2017 he passed away from cancer. We first watched Fences, he was so week but he came into the living room and watched movies with me😢❤. Im a daddys girl forever. I got in trouble for cursing at the scene when Denzel had his son on the ground and his mama did nothing. I would of f d my husband up😂. We didn't finish watching Hidden Figures, my daddy was to weak but ill treasure those memories for ever. ❤💔

My mom and I would always sit at the kitchen table the morning after I would go to the movies while on a date. I would go into great detail about every aspect of the movie. My family would laugh because they would say it would take me 3 hours to explain it 2 hour movie. But I loved telling my mom about movies as well as taking her some times. She would always say that no matter what the movie was, she always preferred my narration of it the next morning. She had become very sick, and I told her I wanted to take her to a movie I saw... But she didn't know that she could make it through a movie while on an oxygen tank. So, I sat down and spoke in deep detail through every scene of Forrest Gump. She died less than a week later. Thoughts of that day, the story I told and her emotional reactions remain a beautiful memory for me.

I wish I had heard about this movie when it came out. I was still teaching then. It should be shown in history and civics classes … and even language arts classes as an example of a biographical movie. The clips I’ve seen here on KZbin are all excellent. If the rest of the movie is this good, it definitely needs to be seen in classes. Schools could also show it on a movie night for parents and kids. Then there could be discussions in classrooms. Not many movies are worth the time, but this one definitely is. It’s also worth discussing the awards it won … and those it did not win, and why.

There was a lot of turmoil in my family around that time. If I had still been teaching, I would have heard about it in the staff room. I really miss those lunch time discussions!
